    I've been looking for a Sykes tutorial on the web for years. Literally. Parts 1 & 2 are hands down the best walk. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Sykes stopped me from checking out when I was a little kid. Was dealing with sexual & physical abuse. So I owe that man my life.

    I’ve been getting into the tone and playing of John Sykes lately and was wondering if the EVH 5150 III amps would be a good choice. Mesa Mark III Coliseums and Jose modded Marshall’s are a bit out of my budget. Would the 5150 III get me there if so which one 6L6, EL34, or Stealth?

    • @EugeValovirta230V
      @EugeValovirta230V  Год назад

      If you play like him an amp will amplify that. 5150 is always a good choise for anything IMO. I used a Marshall JCM800 on this one and it’s a good choise too 😎👌. I guess you just need to try them out and see what works best for you 👌.

    Great playing Euge, very close to John's! John only incorporates more pinch harmonics sometimes. Sykes' stuff still makes for great practice material. The solo of "Out of love" is played with a lot of feeling, that one is still more difficult for me to play than other one's. Another player I try to incorporate elements from, like tap vibrato, is Vito Bratta.

    For the opening Blue Murder riff try Open D, F#, Open A, B, C, B (wide vibrato). I think you’ll find it closer to the riff. The F# being the difference from what you were playing. Basically hit the 4th fret instead of the 3rd fret on the low D. Let me know what you think.

    • @EugeValovirta230V

    Love your videos. Been on a binge. I wonder: what are your thoughts on emg 57 vs 81? I notice how many of your guitars have either an 57 of 81 at the bridge.
    I haven't myself used emgs for many years, but was impressed by an 57 recently even though it seemed to have more noise than I expected (even compared to 66 on neck.. BUT this may just be my impression due to higher output and different preamp voicing).
    But yes -- it would be cool to see you talk more about pickups in general, what makes you go for actives as much, ECT ECT :)
    Cheers from Turku

      Glad to hear!
      57 is like 81 and PAF combined. So it has the charasterics of both pickups.
      I just like how actives pick up my sound and how they feel. But on the other hand I like passives too and have them on several guitars also.
