    I forgot just how funny this episode is throughout, that bit with Clara and the Doctor in the restaurant is hilariously snarky. Also I love Shane trying to be pouty for a new doctor but clearly getting quickly won over by Capaldi lol.
    Also I guess Eric is yet again proving to be freaking psychic with that "What'd he say? Who's Missy?" moment lmao.
    Also, Marie-Antoinette was the Queen of France, wife of Louis XVI, whereas the ship we saw with Tennant was named after Madame de Pompadour, who was a mistress of Louis XV (her real name name was Jean Antoinette). So both of the sister ships were named after 18th century women who had sex with a French King.

    • @TheMoonRover
      @TheMoonRover 5 лет назад +34

      Also worth noting that the Doctor didn't make the connection to the SS Madame de Pompadour because he never actually learned the name of the ship. If you go back and rewatch _The Girl in the Fireplace_ you'll see that. The name of the ship is only revealed to the audience after the Doctor has left. "Why her?"

    I love how this episode questions truth and perspective.
    *1)* Is Twelve translating for the t-rex, or is he speaking from the hearts?
    *2)* Is the broom analogy meant for the Clockwork Man, or is it for Twelve and the collected Doctors?
    *3)* Did Twelve kill the Clockwork Man, or did the Clockwork Man kill himself?
    Each has an answer favoured, but each could be fairly argued the other way.
    Also, the homeless man whose coat Twelve takes is played by Elizabeth Sladen’s husband, and the face face Twelve removes is one of Matt Smith that the production had lying around.

    The general consensus for 12 is that he goes back to being more alien, not letting emotions get in the way of the mission. Moffatt said that he wanted Peter to be as different from Matt as possible and they got it.
    I also feel that the scenes where Vastra berates Clara for seemingly to reject the Doctor for looking older and when 11 tells Clara to not be scared is Moffatt telling fans that the Doctor is still the Doctor and not to judge him just because he doesn’t fit a certain mould.

    I've actually always thought the Robot chose to jump and kill itself, that it was the one lying about its programming. It was pretty clear that it had acquired a semblance of humanity and sentience at some point during its fairly long existence, and that it was becoming kind of desperate and losing hope in the whole "promised land" thing. The Doctor gave it the "final push" not by physically throwing it out of the door, but by basically convincing it into killing itself - I think this goes back to something Tennant once said, how even though the Doctor tries to avoid killing people, he often does something even worse by getting clever and making them kill themselves.

    Shocking history Calvin. This one was the Marie Antoinette who was Queen of France during the Revolution. The other one was Madame de Pompadour (also known as Reinette Poisson) who was Louis XV's mistress.
    Tom Baker's companion the Time Lady Romana was shown choosing to regenerate into the form of a character who'd appeared in the previous story.

    CLASSIC WHO SPOILER
    About adapting a familiar face after regeneration:
    The fourth Doctor traveled with Romana, the first Time Lady Companion.
    At the beginning of her second season she regenerated a couple of times and settled with the face of Princess Astra, who they encountered in the previous season.

    • @user-vf9qc6io9i
      @user-vf9qc6io9i 5 лет назад +3

      And another uniqueness about her regeneration is that she chose to regenerate as opposed to it being triggered

  • @Windupchronic

    There is something almost like what Shane is talking about, with the Doctor crossing over into territory he'd previously been in.
    The Seventh Doctor story "Remembrance of the Daleks" occurs shortly after the First Doctor leaves in the first story, "An Unearthly Child." It features both Coal Hill School (which Blind Wave will have already seen Clara teaching at by this point) and the junkyard at 76 Totter's Lane from the first episode. The Doctor returns to retrieve something. So, while they don't run into each other, it is a case of two regenerations coming close to doing so.

    3:17 I think that Vastra's "Well then, here we go again!" is a tribute to the Brigadier's ad-lib "Well, here we go again!" in _Planet of the Spiders_ , as Jon Pertwee regenerated into Tom Baker.

  • @franl155

    "I've seen this before" - I took this to be referring to the events in Girl in the Fireplace, where clockwork droids tried to repair a spaceship with human components.
    In Tom Baker's era, his companion Romana regenerated from Mary Tam to Lala Ward [or possibly the other way round] , taking on the "likeness" of a princess they'd encountered on a recent adventure. May have happened other times, too - which leaves the door open for David Morrisey to become the Doctor for real, , one day …

    For the Blind wave peeps that intro was done by a fan of Doctor who, the show runners thought it was that good they made it into the official intro for the new Doctor who series. The guy who did it wanted an intro to show more of the time travelling aspect instead of just travelling through space.

    The line about Capaldi’s eyebrows being independent was a joke about the Scottish independence referendum which took place in 2014, around the same time this episode aired. The referendum was to decide whether or not Scotland wanted to remain a part of the UK.
