- Peter received his first hate mail which is surprisingly not related to our RUclips channel or to being gay but to his work. He therefore wanted to tell you all about it and address it.

Hi Tommy and Peter! Regarding the “hate” letter you received, it sounds like the writer has more of an issue with the split of to two countries thus taking it out on you. Like you said, it use to be one country and you had nothing to do with the separation. My native language is English, and I have studied French and German for many years. I wish I could speak either French or German, conversationally, as well as you speak English. Your English is very good, both of you! Hugs to you both! You’re great guys!

This person must be so unhappy and have a miserable life. First he is racist and needs to start by loving himself to be able to accept others. There is always negative and unhappy people in the world. Don’t lose sleep over this it probably happen again. Be happy Peter and I love you both.❤️❤️

Thank you Thomas, so sad that there are hateful people out there but oh well... I am glad that letter is gone now 😀 Both languages were spoken, people understood each other and everything was ok. There were always 2 hosts on the TV news - one Slovak and on Czech.

Sadly there will always be people who will find something to hate. Your boss and the radio station people are perfectly open about you speaking Slovak and that's what matters. Don't quit your job because some idi*ts complain about your language. Your job isn't to speak Czech, but to do weather forecasts and I'm sure you do it admirably. You do belong in this world and I'm delighted to count you among my friends. You did well by burning that hate letter. Fire is a symbol of purification.

Dear Peter and Tommy , this is for me a typical act done in boredom during lockdown and this pandemic 😷 time , where it seems that being at home 🏡 people have so much time , with their gin and tonics on the couch 🛋, that these horrible things sadly come to fruition. You have received hundreds letters of people appreciating you . Hold on to that. These idiots as you mentioned live sad life’s . Remember you do belong . You have each other , appreciate each other out of the love 💕 you have . I love your videos and weekly updates . Be proud of who you are . God created us all , we are individually unique , and have a place in this world 🌎. Many appreciate you both . I look forward to seeing you with your weekly updates. Haters gonna hate, unfortunately, usually as in those kinds of anonymous cowardly letters too. An an English speaker (British) I have no idea how different/similar the Czech & Slovak languages are, never having studied either, but it’s certainly true the many different versions of English are distinct, mostly because of accent, but there are some differences in vocabulary, usage and idiom too, but they’re all still fundamentally the same language. As for a British person moving to the US, or an American moving to the UK (there are many of both), I’d say most of us enjoy the differences. Some of the most creative English now is spoken by some Australians, some of whom speak an exaggerated form of “Strine” or Australian - it’s really fun to hear and sometime to try to understand fully 😉. It so happens I speak a number of other languages, a few pretty fluently, and I relish this ability, it has allowed me to expand my horizons culturally and socially - the English you both speak is a pleasure to listen to, thank you. You certainly took the right action in consigning that letter to the flames. Stay well 😀👍.

Tip for the future - evidently if you add sage and onion to the letter as you burn it- the letter writer suffers uncontrollable diarrhea for a week.
Hopefully there won't be a next time but I'll keep that in mind 😀😀

A good way to deal with hate mail. There are many sad people in the world who always find something to attack. Sad sad person. If this individual is so disturbed by this, why not tune into a different radio station? Seems like a simple solution to me🤷🏻♀️. There is definitely something missing in their life if they felt it necessary to be so hateful. To the individual who wrote the letter, maybe take an inward look at yourself and figure out why you wanted to impose your negativity and hate onto another person. Peter, keep being you! Peter, you are well above the person complaining about language differences. Sometimes certain people are not happy or don't feel good about themselves unless they are making someone else miserable. Don't give them that power over you because then they think they have won. And Tommy was so supportive and loving and we all love you too.🥰

We have similar problems here in the US with people hating on Spanish speaking people. There are narrow minded people everywhere. I wish you could feel the positive vibes outweighing the negative. Burning that deep was a good

Peter don't waste your time for that hater. It was that person aim - you feel sad, and he/she feel happy because he/she did something "good"..... i can really relate to this video topic today; i was born & raised here in the south-east US and everyone considered that i have an accent (technically it is a speech impediment but i can only recall one person who knew that), over the years i tried to have fun with it that when asked where i was from that i would throw the question back to them and asked them to guess and i would received so many different places; most notably Boston or New Orleans, South Africa, Australia, Britain, and even various European countries but i don't think Czechoslovakia
i try not to think of all the negative comments which have been many which has had an affect on my life, to this day i do not talk much on the telephone or it would be more applicable to say i rarely speak on the telephone
It's so sad that people always find a reason to be negative or hateful and they don't even realize how hurtful it can be and that it can affect others long term. Hopefully there are going to be less and less people like that...
@@tommyandpeter when i read this response how negativity affect others long term i immediately thought of other comments that have been made to me, one comment in particular i was around 12 probably and away at a "christian" summer camp and one evening we were getting ready to turn in and i mentioned i was about to brush my teeth and head back to the cabin and the camp counselor just said to me "you're ugly", i am sure he did not think twice about it and it was insignificant on his part but now i am aware to always be careful when i speak to others because what it said hastily by the speaker might have serious consequences to the listener
That man who wrote that letter is a nut job! We love you and you belong to the global gay community and we accept you as you are. Also, you do belong in Czechia and to Tommy. Don't let these nut jobs bother you. There couldn't be a kinder, sweeter, or more intelligent person than you and Tommy of course. You are the best that the world has to offer not this crazy man. So he doesn't matter, he is just dust lol!

This was definitely not great when I received the hate letter. Some people just think that they are better and above everyone and they have to let you know. At least Tommy is my rock 😊

Here in the U.S., there are those who complain because many businesses and organizations operate bilingually --- English and Spanish; and blame Mexicans for U.S. problems. So human nature seems to be about the same everywhere. Of course most U.S. citizens can barely speak English let alone two, three or more languages.
Hi Frank, maybe those hateful people just can't keep up with the world so they have to put the blame on someone.
We have much the same in Ireland as regards the Irish language. It has become highly politicised and therefore divisive in the north of Ireland. Speaking it in some communities can cause much the same result as Peter described about the use of Slovakian in Czechia. Don’t let the haters get you down Peter. Use even more Slovakian words in your broadcasts. Either way, Tommy is as proud as punch about you. 😀🏳️🌈

It's really strange on which grounds some people want to dismiss others. (place of birth, language, accent, looks the list seems endless..)
Always pitty those with so low self-esteem they don't feel pride in who they are, that they can accept others for who they are: but it gets better as time goes by, every generation is more aware of the beautiful diversity we call earth: and the fact that (s)he is sending snail-mail is enough proof they are certainly not progressive enough to keep up.

Here's what you may not fully appreciate - as you're not old enough (yet). I saw this posted on social media and I hadn't considered it. It goes like this... "There are 3 stages in life: 1) young & dumb; 2) ambitious & hopeful; 3) F**K everyone & everything". You are both in stage #2. Your letter writer is likely in stage #3. So, it's not about Peter, nor language. Nothing will please the letter writer. Source: I find myself in stage #3 and it's a real thing. But, I recognize it and work at trying to claw my way back to stage #2.
Good luck coming back to stage #2. I might slip to stage #3 in the mean time 😀

I thought these problems only exist here, in the countries of the former Yugoslavia, because there was a war here in the early 90s. I didn't know that there was the same problem in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Honestly, Czech and Slovak sound the same to me, like two accents of the same language.

I also love to hear both languages because they remind me of great Czechoslovak movies, television series and cartoons I watched as a child. I remember some children’s TV series about some kids who went to the island. I can’t remember the name of it, but I still remember the soundtrack, the opening theme. Something like, "Mi imame prave letnji bajčni plan, pridaj saknam, pridaj saknam." (Sorry, I know it's not written correctly, but that's how I remember it. :D )

It's not as bad here as it is in the former Yugoslavia but unfortunately there are nationalists everywhere so every now and then there is a person who thinks that everyone who lives here must speak the language. But you're right, Czech and Slovak are so similar that it's the same like asking a Czech from another part of the country to stop speaking in a local dialect and speak the proper Czech instead. Fortunately most people don't care and majority of Czechs really like the Slovak language. We didn't know Croats find Czech and Slovak sexy, that's a nice discovery 😃 I used to work with a girl from Serbia and she said that Czech sounds funny, like we're singing instead of talking. That's how Polish sounds to us 😁
I also didn't know that Czechoslovak movies and TV shows were popular in Yugoslavia. I like your Slovak writing, it's not bad 😁 I have to say I had to look it up and it seems it's a Slovak TV show from 1984 called Tajomny ostrov (Mysterious Island). I've never seen it myself. Sadly I don't remember any Croatian or Yugoslavian movies and TV shows. But I liked dance group Karma 😃

I was actually laughing when you read the letter. When you are 65 and you've paid careful attention to hate all your life, it actually sounds ridiculously stupid when you hear it. Like this guy has nothing else to think about. He's so worked up, he probably hasn't been able to take a bath in a week.

A good and interesting video. First of all, this individual should not be writing to you to complain. The letter should have been sent to the manager of the radio station. Obviously he has an issue with the programing and not you Peter. This individual sounds like a very unhappy person and pretends to be a purist when it comes to a country's language. Peter, I understand that this upsets you but just consider the source. Obviously he is a very unhappy person and blames all of his shortcomings on someone else other than himself. No matter how hard you try, you will never be able to please everyone. Am sure you do a good job at work and you have accomplished many things in your young life. I doubt is this person can speak three languages and is probably living in the past and will not try to conform to what is going on in the world and the Czech Republic today. Too bad he hasn't seen your videos, then again maybe he has and is just jealous of what you and Tommy have together. I enjoyed the burning of the unsigned letter. There are many people like that in the USA and it rolls over to hate groups and other weird organizations. Lots of that going on now here. An example is the resistance of some individuals to get vaccinated against Covid.19. Just stupid, ignorant individuals who can't comprehend that it is for their own well being and that of others. People can have their opinions, but to send hate mail and complain about it is uncalled for. Don' let him get you down, he's just an ignorant fool. Does the radio broadcasts just go out to Czech Republic or do they go to Slovakia? Thought it would have been more integrated given how recently the country split is. To me it sounds like the conversations between you and the presenter show how people from both countries can get on.
These broadcasts are only on regional radio so they only reach Moravia (eastern part of the Czech rep.) and a small part of Slovakia at the borders (because it's quite close). Ignorant fool really because Czech and Slovak nations always speak about eachother as 'brothers' something like sibling nations 😊

I am sorry, I wrote to you2 that I am macedonian/serbian. I am European, I have never, have problems people talking other languages, as long we understand each other. I live in Italy since 2018, and I refused to speak italian, but now I started to talk out of respect towards the country and people who accepted me. So, yes I think you should try to speak cesky, as you work in czech state institution, and especially you are reporting sensitive data! If you work for private firm, you can speak mandarin/english, but for state institution you should speak, yes. And you have learnt it when you studied for citizenship, you told that Peter. I AM SORRY for my attitude.
I lived/studied in Praha for 5 months as Erasmus student, and I could have perfectly speak Serbian and all people understood me, but I always tried to speak czech = maso istead of mEso, or Jblko istead of jAbolko (macedonian), as I loved the people and it was impossible not to speak. If i lived in Kosice, I would have tried to speak slovak.
Hello Dimitar, thanks for your comment. As I said before I asked the radio people right at the beginning (11 years ago) which language should I speak and they said Slovak. Since then I've got a lot of positive feedback. It's different speaking Macedonian and Slovak here, you can't compare those two - Czechs and Slovaks understand each other very well (as I explained it's passive bilinguality), it was one country in the past. If I lived in Macedonia, Serbia, Germany or any other country I would of course speak that language. Czech and Slovak is different. I am not even a Slovak anymore but I can't just switch in those radio broadcasts to Czech after 11 years of talking Slovak because hosts and listeners know and recognize me mainly because of my Slovak language. At shops and other places in everyday life I speak mostly Czech. So it's not like I refuse to speak Czech. Part of my family is Czech and I respect the country. My official weather forecasts on the institution website are written by me in Czech. And I don't report any sensitive data, sunny or cloudy is not a sensitive information 😉 I don't work as a government employee (in a government office - úřad), we are more of a science institution.

We are not as tolerant as you (you are the best in the world regarding the tolerance of languages, people and not nationalism)... And in Serbia, it is also not allowed to use bosnian dialect of Serbian (official language with two variants). For example sjedi should be replaced with sedi (to sit), or mjesec with mesec (moon). I meant sensitive information because of tornado (I was worried about you 2), that is why I was it is sensitive. Maybe it's different in Balkan countries because there was war and people really don't like each other (sounds so strict that a dialect is not allowed, so harsh...). Czechoslovakia just split peacefully and that was it, nothing major. Slovak language is widely accepted here, for example a lot of Slovaks study in the Czech republic and they all speak Slovak and write their thesis in Slovak - it's completely normal. Same for Czechs in Slovakia. Or when there is a block of "domestic" songs on radio it's always Czech AND Slovak songs. Also TV shows with both Czech and Slovak hosts and contestants. There are songs - duets where one part is sung by a Slovak singer in Slovak and other part by a Czech singer in Czech and then they sing the chorus together either in Czech or Slovak (then they for example switch for second chorus)... In parts of both countries that are around borders people often speak a dialect that is like a mixture of both languages. And many other little things like these 😀 I hope it's more understandable 😉

My slovak friend had problems in 2010 because she wrote an invoice in Slovak for a big consulting firm in Praha. It was not a "big" case, but it was a "friendly" suggestion from the boss to write the invoices in Czech. So that is why I wrote, to avoid "situations" with not so friendly people.

doesn't mail wich you get to your work adress consider offical mail? wich mean you were subjected to harrasment at your work place, wich means your employer should take offical steps. aka reported to the police that one their employemnt is receving hate mails at his working place... at least like that is here, employer is obligated to take steps, if the mail came for you but on work place adress ( like on a radio adress or company). here would be reported..
omg this letter is like listening some ultra ustasi or ultra chetnik, who also or is having 50+ years, lives in past and have no guts to attack someone his age, coz he stuck in past and unable to change, affraid of change, so he takes his frustrtion on someone who could be his child by age, coz he is coward in reality... or is some stupid punk between ages 12 to 25 who have no idea wtf he is talking about coz he was not even born, repeating pamplhets and paroles like a parrot.. i am sick now, literly know this type and it is alwys or old or younger than 30... 🤑🤑
That sounds nice in theory but it wouldn't do anything. The letter was anonymous so there isn't much they could do.
It must have been an older guy - this radio is old fashioned one for seniors mainly. You are right that it's mostly 50+ people that think like this here...
@@tommyandpeter well here they have to report it ( but i think it dependes how much hatefull it was), we actually had a case simmilar when i was working in call cente and we had to use our real names, so coulege who is serb got something simmilar. police traced the post office ( coz of offical post stamp, where city and number of post office is visible), they checked online activity, like fb, twiter etc for that whole area and they found a guy. was some ex veteran seriously disturbed in whos head it still was 1991, main clue were his online posts on fb and various croatian news portal. he was only from that area who sticked by that. also was anonymus. he actualy confesed, when police came to his door he said oh you are here coz the letter i sent to that chetnik piece of *****. it was so sad coz coulege is a such nice guy, he could actualy be his grandsone by age. so screwed up.. but i guess the letter wich came for him was much much worse, like it had to be some kind of threat to his life ot well being, and guy knew his name, where he works, so he could show up..
