This past summer all I got were the pittance snack boxes. Back in December it was at least a decent, albeit cold in a box, sandwich (on a flight 2 miles over the 900 minimum). At least it's improving... I sure do miss the decent hot meals though. Even the flight attendants seemed disappointed in what they had to offer, but otherwise went above and beyond with other snacks and drinks. AA removing IFE really made me lose interest in flying them, and United only uses regional jets at my local airport, most lacking First, so I usually don't even bother checking them.

I prefer very early flights, and Delta for me is the no-brainer choice. The early morning flights tend to have more normal, sensible people, and you avoid many of the audacious crazies out there. Also, the flight attendants seem to have a natural, straight forward, mannerism about them which I find pleasant. I am sure there are great flight attendants on other airlines as well. The day Delta won me for live: I was flying BOS to LGA. I got to skyclub super early to get some work done. Check in said a storm was coming and my flight might get delayed - do I want to leave early? My flight was hours away and I would have been perfectly happy doing some work and chowing down so I opted to do just that. As time passed, my flight was going to be delayed by 20 mins. Then an hour. Kept looking bad. I told the desk people to get me out early. They somehow couldn't get me into a first class seat on an earlier flight, even though I was booked in first. However, I was able to do it on the app with 2 clicks. I got home EARLY. If I stayed, I'd have been delayed 2-3 hours. LOVE This kind of proactive service and redundancy plans.

I'm going with Delta, Jeb. The biggest reason? It's a people oriented airline. Their main concern (even in Economy) is the comfort of the passengers, not "how many seats can I squeeze in so I can make more profit?" (I'm looking at YOU, American!) Because Delta is so focused on people before profit, they end up getting more profit. And their service just can't be beat. After 3 years of being grounded due to illness/surgeries, I'm looking forward to climb aboard Delta to head to JFK, and from there, flying Delta partner Virgin to Manchester, for the summer! See you in the skies, Jeb!

I've found 1st class was inconsistent even before Covid, and even more now. I've been on back to back flights with AA where I got real glass and mixed drinks with a snack service and the next flight I was handed my captain, coke and plastic cup of ice and the snacks were on request. The 2nd flight was also the longer flight of the 2.

I've never taken a first class flight so I was expecting it to be so much better than coach, especially considering the price difference. I'm sorry to say that I'm definitely not impressed. Besides a couple of electrical enhancements and better customer service, there's almost no difference whatsoever. In fact, even in coach, you usually get a seat back video monitor.

My preference is for early flights due to less delays and sometimes fewer people in the airport. But surprisingly red-eye flights are great! I’ve always slept quite well on planes and if it’s a work trip I arrive well rested. In Feb of 2020 I flew one of the last Delta 777’s from LAX to Sydney for work… red eye. Fell asleep on departure and woke up an hour before arrival. The FC attendant in my row saved my food for me and joked that he thought I had died. Just dead tired. 😂😂

Switching to Delta. I go with AA, as my upgrades seem to always clear, and price is better. With the new AA qualifiers, it will be easier to earn status on Delta. While pre pandemic, AA first class had better meals & alcoholic beverages, along with a better blanket, Delta just feels much more premium. Its that seat back IFE for me. Delta Lounges are also vastly superior to AA's.

Video Suggestion @Jeb Brooks. Consider doing a comparison of Frequent Flyer programs between the major US carriers. The loyalty programs work - they really tie frequent flyers into staying with a single brand because of the benefits. I make my airline decision based on 1) price, 2) loyalty program, 3) convenience. Sometimes I choose 2 over 1 because if something happens, being a loyal customer pays off big time.

I took 2 short haul domestic flights during the holidays. I took Delta from FLL to BOS and American for the return. Treated myself to first class upgrades on each flight. Both flights were on 737-8.
Didn’t like that I couldn’t access lounges for either ticket.
I enjoyed both flights but found AA’s FAs to be much more attentive. They DID give me a pre-departure beverage and checked on passengers throughout the flight.
On Delta, I think I saw the FA twice.
Liked the seat setup and additional storage. On AA, I felt that the seat was more comfortable.
On the Delta flight, the seat setup was not much different than in Premium Economy…or so it felt. It was also not nearly as comfortable as on AA.
Both flights had wi-fi, in-flight meal service AND wine / beer / spirits.
Overall, I enjoyed both flights. Nice to be in First Class, even on a shorter flight.
Would I travel on either airline in domestic first class again? Absolutely. It was still nice to have some extra perks.

Seatback screens are a must have for me. I just flew on my first United Express flight a week ago and not having a seatback screen or even Wifi to stream to a device makes the flight feel less premium. I also don't travel with a tablet, so I would have to stream to my phone, which isn't as big of a screen as the seatback screens.
