I have a feeling that these are the same type of people who thought Napoleon was a cinematic masterpiece
1st Gladiator is the best, Napoleon I never watched that, even though trailers looks good, I hope Gladiator 2 is good, Paul Mascal looks really good in the movie
Maybe Napoleon Dynamite

The first gladiator, the story, filming acting was on a level of perfection
Decades later I can't forget the drama, score, and reminisce about such a perfect hero's tale.
Indeed, it didn't need a sequel.
Oliver Reed and David Hemmings were real actors unlike Pedro Pascal.
Gladiator didn't need a sequel. Hollywood doesn't get that not every hit movie needs a sequel or needs to be made into franchise/cinematic universe.
Sometime sequel can ruin the wow factor in the first movie
Should leave the first gladiator alone it'll become a classic all by himself
Gladiator 2 is better than gladiator 1
@Slaugther-w9p Not a chance in Hell. If you think that you've got no clue about films
The"critics"loved it?...so its shit then.
Lazy take.
Does that mean Joker 2 is a masterpiece since the critics hated it? 🤔
Statistically, joker 2 is the only film they will be correct on in 2024.
They hated Joker 2 and their take matched the audience. To be fair they have been getting a lot more closer to the audience views than they were before. They not shilling as ridiculously hard as they were last year for something like The Marvel for instance..
Same critics that hated Joker 2, so by your comment, you liked Joker 2?
The stupid Rap music in the trailers hurt the movie.
😂
How can the rap music in the TRAILER hurt the MOVIE , have you seen the movie lol😂
😅weirdo
@@sebraven It does because a trailer is supposed to hook people into watching a movie, not to repel them.
My word, you think people are going to judge the whole movie experience on one trailer with rap music in it? Go outside and touch wood for god sake. Some of you act like you don't interact with normal people day to day.
The floodiing of the coloseum did actually happen with naval battles and this occured inder julius ceasers rule. Correction the colloseum did not exist at the same time as julius ceaser who died 125 years before the collpseum was completed in 80 C.E apologies for the incorrect history .
No it happened much later and only a handful of times under Titus etc.
@@ethancoster1324 under Julius ceaser he had a games which lasted more than 130 days where the colloseum was flooded and also massive gladiatorial fights with wild animals, which did happen under emperor Titus
@@sebraven The Colosseum wasn't built until the Flavian dynasty some hundred years after Cesare.
There might've been flooded arenas before then but they weren't the Colosseum.
@@sebraventhe colosseum didn’t exist during the time of Julius Caesar, it’s construction was began by Vespasian in 72 AD. Julius Caesar died in 44 BC.
@@forsociopoliticalstuff2629 yes that is correct, colloseum completed in 80 C.E and ceaser assassinated 125 years before, it must have been later and these games with including flooding were done some time later but it was not unusual to do games in commemoration of previous emperor's especially of whom were given almost divine status
This, like all legacy sequels that no one asked for is simply the original film remade for “modern audiences”. And they can keep it.
All audiences were happy with Top Gun Maverick. This movie will turn out the same
@@jordanfletcher3726 Apart from Denzel it's a cast of nobody cares.
Not paying to see the same film twice lol
@@Adam-sd2ow LOL! I don´t care about Denzel in this movie because he´s a DEIversity hire and historical anachronism.
All the other actors look like reasonable casting choices.
People seem to believe that Tim Burton and Ridley Scott both do not conform to Hollywood's DEI expectations, which is how Beetleuice, Beetleuice got four hundred million at the box office. This film needs to do much higher than that, but still.
2:58 ‘Wrong time period to be Shakespearean.’ You obviously don’t know your Shakespeare.
Seriously what a dilwheat
The trailer did a bang up job of making me think the opposite. Perhaps its a massive ruse.
He used music from Holsts Planet Suite in first. Mars.
Now...... probably autotune Cher.
LOL; underrated comment
Why am I so suspicious when critics give positive reviews across the board? Look I didn't ask for this sequel, I don't want it particularly. Scott has disappointed us with sequels before, even to one of his most beloved classics. Do I want to expand the universe around a film I've loved for decades? Probably not, never works out well.
A DEI empire, will be focusing on slahvery and social justice instead of history
These aren't reviews. These are social reactions. They are positive for every single movie. Even if they do not like it, they have to spin their social reactions so it sounds like they are giving the movie a thumbs-up.
Bit like the Disney movie, Bla Bla 2. Takes away from the original. I know Alien 3 ruined Aliens finale for me.
It’s important to note that the studio only let in influencers who they handpicked, not critics. This is not the same as premiering a film at a festival, in which anyone can watch and give their honest opinion
It's gonna flop hard
I am doubtful it will make a huge profit with a budget that high.
Also taking into account that things are not the same as when the original came out.
Not likely.
I can see it doing really well. 90s nostalgia. The current fascination with the Roman Empire. Male lead. Overall, a masculine movie that will appeal to young males as the first one did
A lot of good movies are flopping now
Flip flops 🩴
If the film is critically acclaimed (by both audiences and critics) and becomes somewhat of a Top Gun Maverick phenomenon, I'll go see it. If not, it's a pass.
IGN gives it a 7/10.
It is going up against a film that is guaranteed a billion dollars. I think Gladiator 2 should easily do %700-800 million, possibly between six and seven hundred, but a billion, might be getting ahead of ourselves to predict that

I have the exact same reservations.
"LoVe DenZeL." That guy who shoehorned himself into a role where he doesn´t belong. LOL! LMAO even. :D
Pedro is actually one of the few who would actually look from the Roman empire... wtf?
Agree with the replies. Absolutely no black person would be anything other than a slave. I mean, Rone enslaved most of white Europeans.
Of course they are not goi g to have negative reviews. they don’t want to risk not getting access to early screenings next time to the n3xt big movie
When i see critics say switch your brain off for this film it not a good sign because the first film had a very good story seems like this one story is not good. 🤔

0:59 - The first Gladiator made $465,516,248...that's $852,367,819 in today's dollars when adjusted for inflation. So it's not accurate to say "the first one didn't make anything close to $600 million." lol. It literally made way more than $600 million, again, when adjusted for inflation. It almost made $900 million actually.
This film guaranteed makes above six hundred million.
@@kipolem53 Yea, I'm thinking it does numbers similar to Dune 2.

As a history fan I’m just going to see the ship battle in the coliseum. I’ve always loved that little fact and I want to see it in the big screen. But I have no expectations for the movie itself

He'll be outed in the PDiddy stuff. He's had accusers for years. Crazy how some of the best actors and directors are completely deranged sexual sadists behind closed doors.
Thing is the second I saw Denzel in it before he even spoke I just thought "ha woke war about to ensue here we go" knowing it'll be hilarious because I knew whoever he would be playing would probably actually make sense historically in context but they'd try and dress it somehow so that it's glaringly out of place and then I heard his most exaggerated accent ever and I just thought "lol gold".

To be fair the critics didn't hype up Joker 2 initially
Ridley is insanely hit or miss. If the reviews are endlessly positive I'll give it a go.

I do not want this movie.
This is a movie that don't even need to exist.
Why did it cost so much? Was the large container to haul around Pedro's ego that expensive?

Somehow, the new Mission Impossible has passed the $300 million mark, and is still shooting. 😧
Gotta love that unprecedented inflation over the last 4 years...
All 3 lord of the rings shot back to back for a little over $500M in total after inflation. They made almost $5B in theaters adjusted for inflation.
I wonder when we will see new Mission Impossible trailer
Got to love all those tax write offs for unprofitable films in Hollywood 😂
What’s next for Ridley Scott?
Aliens Vs. Gladiator…
Another sequel that did not need to happen.
Am I seeing it? Simple answer Mo. Derailed answer: HELL F$$$ING NO.
This movie does need to make a lot of money but I’m afraid I’ll just wait until it’s on digital because no matter how good it is, I’m not going to pay money to go to a movie theater 🍿
Why not?
Thing is, I don't have to pay money to switch my brain out. I can just go to sleep. So, if that's their only selling point...
I’m a little suspicious of those reviews
From professional critics? Yeah, that's actually very questionable
Ridley Scott probably paid them for great reviews
Idc if it's scale is great and sets are amazing. It can be a spectacle but if the story is a MESSAGE and all about diversity, equality, and inclusion destroying ancient Rome, which is actually what destroyed it lol, then I want nothing to do with it
Haha! The first people allowed to see it have praised it!
I've a hedge to plant so busy for now.
I worked on this movie for 6 months in Morroco. Was an amazing experience. I could give you the low down on the accidents. Massive budget (my salary🤣) etc if you wish?
I'm off to the crew screening this sunday. Im hopeful. Theres no doubt this movie will look amazing.

Can't fucking wait to see this👏👏🙌
Ok, this is gonna be long, bear with me about the elephant in the room:
Diversee people indeed existed all over the empire through interactions Africa with the Mediterranean, and Rome channeling people of different ethnicities all across its territories through slavery, military movements, public administration and trade. That being said, we are not talking about endless quantities of people - compared to populations you'd describe as "white" or "tan", actually subsaharan africans were a minority; most Africans would have been coming from Northern Africa and Egypt, most truly dark-skinned ones from Nubia and modern-day Sudan - and Northern Africans aren't today, after Arab conquest and colonization, nor were back then, when they were overwhelmingly Semitic and Berber, what anyone outside of heavily racialized America considers as "black" (moreso "brown", or even Mediterranean white). Also, while intermarriages happend in all levels of society and quite many people had dual backgrounds, it was much more common for people to live socially mostly inside homogeneous communities and intermarry with their compatriots - the diversity of the Empire helped, as in every major point there were communities of different culture and ethnicity. The nobility, also, while taking on the culture and monikers of the provinces they resided in, were often directly descended from Latin colonists, thus ethnically Italians (didn't help that until the early 3rd century only Roman-descended people were imperial citizens, the rest were subjects - that certainly played a part in keeping communities in a certain distance.TLDR. The ancient world was much more diverse than most people think, but still drastic differences in ethnicity (thus culture, color) of people in a general area was rare, or kept in communities that intermingled up to a certain point. Of course, that means that, though on the less likely scale, a subsaharan African-looking person might very well have risen to become a powerbroker in the late empire, especially through trade, especially if we think that Romans or indeed anyone did't interact necessarily with other ethnicities from an unapproachable height (I mean, other than the usual conceit that they were Romans and the others weren't - but every dark person wasn't automatically considered a servant or slave, they retained their identities as free men, rich men, princes, royalty and soldiers when interacting with the Roman citizens). There were even a number of emperors picked by the army in different spots of the empire, with wildly diverse cultural backgrounds, if not color (Septimius Severus, Philip the Arab, Aurelian from Dacia or Moesia, etc). What is more annoying for me is that they obviously situate Denzel Washington's character in a way that the audience associates his lack of acceptance in the roman elite as a racial matter, instead of what would most probably be a class prejudice ancient patricians with political, military and legal careers would have towards nouveau riche traders, which I think is extremely disingenuous of them. You can't , very well, imply that a character like Denzel Washinton's would move freely in Rome because racism as we know it didn't exist, only to posit the casting in a way that implicitly, if not explicitly, makes him an outcast for his skin color. It's clear they're seeing this through a racial lens, even in a case where the casting would be quite justifiable. But then, Hollywood has never treated Rome fairly - it's always an extreme caricature of cruelty, immorality, imperialism, degeneracy and weakness, or all of the above. So yeah, I don't think anyone loving Roman history has much to expect from this movie, and Denzel Washington is the least of its problems (oddly enough the most downtrodden and looked-down upon people under Rome were the Germanic tribes and the Celts of Britain and Gaul, considered savages and barbarians, but no movie ever has made an issue out of that historical injustice.....Roman history shouldn't exist only to give people easy sword and sandal villains and justify Hollywood's idea of diversity).
For anyone interested. In other news, regardless of casting, this film wasn't needed or wanted, and will only end up being unfavorably compared to the classic first one. Joker 2 should become a morality tale about unwanted sequels. This feels like actual necromancy.
My favorite historical epic of all time was the original. My favorite performance of Joaquin Phoenix still to this day. I dont need a sequel. I need a tv series with all the Julio Claudian emperors and their stories however. Been begging since I became obsessed with Roman history at age 11 because of Gladiator.
I guess i'll go see it. A movie that you can just watch, not think about things too much, isn't offensive yet is entertaining is just fine with me now and then.
Will not watch !!! A pile of poo !!!
You seen it yet? Dumbass🤡
This may or may not be a cinematic masterpiece, but from what I have seen of the trailers so far, they have got the emperor Caracalla completely wrong - he was not just an indulgent spoiled brat but an extremely intimidating, tough, monstrous individual with a perpetually smoking anger beneath the surface. You only have to look at one of his famous portrait busts to see his innate violence of character. Some people have suggested he was the most evil ruler Rome ever had, leaving people like Caligula and Nero in the shade. His portrait seems therefore very disappointing. They appear to have made all three
(Geta, Caracalla, Elagabalus) just like Elagabalus, who was a corrupt teenager.
Um, yeah. I'm sceptical to say the least.
I won't be watching it in the theater no matter what anyone says. But I might watch it for free on Netflix someday, if everyone says it's good.
Am I excited about this film? Not exactly, I don't think anyone asked for a second film. If it does well, great, but I yearn for something different. I'm tired of the sequels, prequels, and remakes. I want something original.
Then you have to watch independent films.
@Scifi4life I already do, and I love them!😊❤

3 months ago you said this was a hollywood cash grab and a sequel that should never have been made.. now first reviews are good have you changed your mind? you usually go with whatever way the winds blowing, im assuming when it comes out and if it is indeed good you will admit your words were reckless?
As a stand alone spectacle it looks pretty fun had it been completely removed from the first. The forced tie ends to the original and that it's a direct sequel is a huge turn off for me
Sums up my thoughts exactly! But again, it's marketing!
Yup. I think that's th ebig issue here. They could have released this on it's own..but they tied it in with the first one for marketing hype.
Denzel washington is great actor he has played a villain in other movies like training day which is probably his best movie
Wait.....so it's good ?
And there were never actual gladiator fights in a flooded coliseum. It was flooded for Naval reenactment for entertainment. Fyi.

Dont think they can beat the first one with all the woke rules they gotta follow.😂😂
Shakespeare wrote about the ancient world and Rome.
I watched 'Kingdom of Heaven' yesterday, had not seen it for years, what fantastic movie that was, won of Ridley's Gems.
I don't mind them making as many sequels as they want to any film; it's their money. The only time they should stop is if A. It's crap. B. People stop going to see them. I don't gatekeep any film; I just cross my fingers when one I like gets announced. If it's great, happy days; if not, never touch it again. Plus, can you imagine that kind of thinking after Star Wars came out?
"Did you see Darth escape? You can totally tell they left it open for a sequel."
"Empire Strikes Back....what a cash grab. It did not need a sequel. This is them just trying to sell more toys. We all know it will not be as good."
I hope G2 is great, I hope its a smash hit. Scott knows how to do spectacle better than just about any director, but his storytelling/scripts are hit-and-miss. I also have huge concerns over that budget.
Thank god they didn’t go with the version Russell Crowe liked, his character getting reincarnated over hundreds of years.
Not wasting my time on it.
Lets be honest Ridley gets in his bag when it comes to historic epics.

I might actually watch this if it's entertaining. I agree the first one was just okay to me as well. BUT I also didn't watch it during the hype. Only a few years ago, so perhaps I had to be in the moment to get it.
@@hollywoodpineapple8337 I watched it when it came out back in the day on VHS and I never thought it was mind blowing. I thought it was just a ok film.
Did not need a $310M Production Budget, should’ve kept the original $165M production budget that it had before Ridley Scott asked for more.
I don’t think Ridley Scott will get to make a Gladiator 3 that he wants to do.
Then I’m guessing a Gladiator 4 will probably be next which would be surprising.
I notice that none of these shills (all paid critics are shills BTW) said anything about whether the actual story is any good. They never mention the character development either. For the past 10+ years, all audiences have gotten is spectacle. We need the hero's journey to return. We know Denzel can act so, that's nothing new. We know the costumes look good, though not quite historically accurate; again, that's nothing new. They've not said anything that makes me want to see this film.
I’ll check it out. Hopefully it’s fun. I’m not expecting it to be as good as the first. So my expectations are low which could work to the benefit of its good.
Joseph Quinn played Eddie in Stranger Things, only reason I’ll be going to see this movie is for him, he’s a brilliant actor.
I personally wasn’t a huge fan of the first movie, the performances were all good but I thought the movie itself was average.
I saw it last night. Good but needed and not in the same calibre as the first one.

Joker 2, you mean?
@@Hannahgirl193 that one too;)
Why are you angry?
i hope its more than just an action movie. the first had a great story for me from a general to a slave to a hero. theres no point having bombastic action with no good foundations.
Shakespeare wrote several plays about the romans
The trailers looked epic. Can't wait for Nov 22.
There are sequels that are better than the original. Ridley is a master of the cinematic craft not of story. As many Directors he is too conceited to get a great writer to lay those parts out & follow them. One of the reasons Hollywood is dying, slowly. I welcome it's demise but I'd like to see a successor. Meantime the greats such as 'La Strada' by Fellini will suffice.
Shouldn't they be making movies for under 35 million to guarantee a profit. It's too subjective to gamble 300 million on anything.
I might have been interested if done five years after the original not 24 years after it. Yeah, I don’t mind spectacle, the first one had that plus it had a great story. I don’t know if I want to see this movie.
But five years after the original, Hollywood was not in such a state that they had to lean on IP like a crutch. Heck even Joker is IP alppropriating, they only call it that because they know if they call it Clown Man or something, no one will watch.
The colloseum was only filled with water on its first opening run but never again.
I doubt it.
If this movie is “hyper focused on Caracalla life” and done right. This movie will succeed. Caracalla is one of the most diabolical and ruthless emperors ever. Look him up.
I doubt it. In the trailer he looks a bit “feminine”. Totally the opposite of how historians described him. Not to mention the complicate relationship with his brother Geta, they used to argue about everything and they hated each other. 😅In the trailer they seem to get along and share the throne without hostility.
