I don't think Sir Ridley Scott has the energy ro direct this kind of movie any more, he is 86, he is not the same guy he was 24 years ago. There is a time when you need to retire . His master work has already been done . Thank you for your colorful review guys !!
I just finished watching it and dare I say I enjoyed it more than its predecessor 😅😊. The looks you two have.....was I wrong to like it? 🤷♀️ Just kidding....we love what we love 😂❤
Overall the spectacle is good, I wasn't bored, but there were drawbacks. The downsides (spoilers): > > > > - since Lucius was Maximus' son, he made him at about the same time as his son with his wife, this makes Maximus unfaithul to his wife , whom he had allegedly loved so much in G1.” -final fight with Macrinus very below expectations, he was not a worthy opponent for Lucius, an old guy long past his fighting days and splendor -it would have been nice if the public found out who “Hanno ”was before the scene where he was supposed to defend his mother. Then they could rebel and the scene would have gained depth and epicness. Just imagine how great this scene would be if the Master of Ceremony announced who will defend Lucilla. I'd totally rewatch. - Too many of these scenes from the afterlife, on the boat with his wife was a bit cringe. And generally why take revenge on the general if the wife was killed in a fair fight? It did not have the impact of the murder of Maximus' wife, who was a civilian and had been additionally 'graped'. (after listening to your review, I hear Joseph made a similar point) - Lucius had weak prep speeches, except for the final one. Plus as someone else noted in the comments: taking without harm a lot of punches with spiked gloves, or scratching off his hands paddling a few days before the fight by Lucius, were stupid.
I love how you don’t use any character names. So it sounds like you are talking about a messy party you went to 😂😂😂 “…there’s some gossipy ass housekeeper…”
0:45 "I've seen Prometheus many times, I wouldn't say that I'm a big fan" 😂 lmao SAME! I enjoy watching it many times, but agreed, it's not a masterpiece 😂
Sir Ridley is a beast. Such scale and each film comes out with so much fanfare. "Hamlet slash Lion King" LOL I saw it a couple weeks ago. I agree that the twins were awesome. I wanted to see more of them (historic figures) And they were just that crazy Nick! Joseph don't talk about sexy Pedro. I just got over my obsession with him. And I just couldn't get over how much smaller Paul Mescal was than the other gladiators...glad you mentioned that! When that housekeeper is listening at the wall - the entire audience in my early screening burst out laughing. I said aloud if this buildup (the sound was awesome) ends with these armies not battling and just these two (Paul and Denzel) fighting I am through! And that is exactly what happened. All that build up of the two armies facing each other for naught. Derek Jacobi was also in Gladiator wasn't he? The baboons were bad. And why didn't Paul get rabies from eating (biting) that monkey? I was thrilled by them showing the water sports at the coliseum but those sharks - ugh! Denzel's death scene! Joseph: The Romans were major bathers. Bathhouses and all kinds of cleaning accoutrement have been unearthed. But my musicians loved the film. I was like "Meh." Not bad by any means but I was not knocked out by it. But I have a soft spot for Sir Ridley, probably cause he curses so much. LOL Thanks for another great review!
Honestly, Hollywood almost got me with this. Initially the trailer swept me completely off my feet but slowly I began to find those nostalgic feelings leaving and there wasn’t anything else to grasp onto. Bummed but not surprised to see another soulless big budget movie.
also I saw this last Thursday at 3PM at a big theater in Mexico City, I was literally the only person in the big dolby theater which seats like 250 people, a bit surreal
From my one time attending a special advanced screening of a film, the problem I see with the reactions is people tend to rave/overhype the movie, partially because it's like being in an exclusive club, and the experience is lesser if you're actually viewing a dud- people want to believe they're seeing a masterpiece no one else has yet seen. The film I saw a few years ago died immediately upon release with both critics and the general public, but I remember being only one of two previewers (of about 30) who admitted to thinking the film would not score any Oscar nominations (a correct assumption), while others were fairly ecstatic, including one gentleman claiming it was the greatest film he'd ever seen, and he would be telling everyone he knew they must view it. No prizes for guessing which take the studio probably emphasized after the screening.
To be honest, I don’t care about Gladiator at all, but I find Denzel Washington so attractive that I need to see him on the big screen wearing less clothes.
Curious : Did you guys ever review The Last Duel? I wish that movie had been given the same hype and marketing that Napolean and this movie were given.
Ridley is 86! years old..& it shows..I'll stick with Alien, Aliens,Gladiator,Thelma & Louis, Black Hawk down,Bladerunner..& many other good movies by him, but this one was not it..
Mescal felt rather miscast for me, he seemed too quiet and not commanding/violent enough. He didn’t captivate me, so the film never really stepped up for me. I also felt bad for Denzel in those robes, it seemed he was always readjusting the sleeves
Thanks gents for the zesty review!! 😅 Sounds like a skip... I saw an animated film called "Ghost Cat Anzu" today at the theater... I rather enjoyed it. Is there any chance that y'all will review it? Thanks!!
Looking at the chat and listening to this review I see no reason to see this movie. I had no reason before since the first movie didn't need a sequel. I am surprised w/the gay themes this movies has in it that it got such a low rating. I guess some things just can't be saved.
If a thumbnail could talk! 😂
Nick: "Would you, could you, on a plane?"
Joseph: "I could not, would not, on a plane."
😂😂
“Is that Russell Crowes’ army?”
“It’s Marcus Acacius’s army.”
“Who’s that?”
“Pedro Pascal.”
“Oh, whatever.” 😅😂
😂
Guy have no clue of what he’s talking about 😂
I mean he should let the other one talk more and he’s not no clue of what he’s talking about.
I beg for a 2025 daily calendar with only the review thumbnails 😂
That is a fantastic idea
Yes!!! I would love that
I would definitely throw my money at that! That’s a great idea!
"Denzel as the Don King of Rome"!🔥😂😂😂😂
This HAS to be the most random sequel to a movie ever right? 😂
Yeah I never felt as though the first movie needed a sequel. Especially when the sequel is released nearly 25yrs later.
@@handsomeX Top Gun did it the right way despite the sequel being almost 40 years later
the character nick-names are sending me 😂😂🤣🤣
The thumbnai 💀 - I already know I can save my dabloons
Denzel Washington is like this slave who is now the Don king of Rome. I almost spat out my food.
I think this is Joseph's "Turn this shit off" face. I can't wait 😆
If this movie isn't full of enough full frontal unclothed men, I don't want it.
😂
Is it (full of nekkid menses)? Seriously... asking for my cat! 😉
Y in the world did Joseph see Prometheus more than once?????
This is Nick’s best intro EVER!!!!! ❤️❤️👍👍 PS. Love that word TURGID!

Good point. There's a reason why Not too many older directors take on big projects like this.
I'm just waiting for the day Joseph slaps Nick with a handbag for all his crazy introductions. Love you, guys.
rest in peace tony 😔
Robert Downey Jr x White Lotus lol
I just finished watching it and dare I say I enjoyed it more than its predecessor 😅😊. The looks you two have.....was I wrong to like it? 🤷♀️ Just kidding....we love what we love 😂❤

Heeeeeey put more respect on the Treasure Island pirate show ! Signed, A Vegas native 😅
☠️🎉
_Oh, nooooo!_ If that face came from Nick I wouldn't worry much but from u, Joseph 😭😂
0:45 "I've seen Prometheus many times, I wouldn't say that I'm a big fan" 😂 lmao SAME! I enjoy watching it many times, but agreed, it's not a masterpiece 😂
The fall of Ridley Scott... I hope Denzel got paid well.

So... Gladiator 2 literally "jumped the shark" 🦈 😮🎉
Honestly, Hollywood almost got me with this. Initially the trailer swept me completely off my feet but slowly I began to find those nostalgic feelings leaving and there wasn’t anything else to grasp onto. Bummed but not surprised to see another soulless big budget movie.

the way I cannot wait for this review to come outttt
Something tells me that the enjoyment I got when listening to this review will not be paralleled by the screening I'm going to...
WHO LET THE SHARKS OUT !?
More like "jumped the shark" 🦈 🙄lol🎉
I hear...**SPOILER ALERT** they fill the colosseum with water and unleash sharks. 😂🦈💦
Waiting to hear what you made of the monkeys and sharks in Ancient Rome.
😳🎉
Sounds like Ridley is using queer coding as a marker for villainy which is such a tired, lazy trope.
Come on Joseph, the first Gladiator was a great film. 😏. Love you two on this review as usual. 🙌❤️👍🏾
The yeesh faces are taking me out! I'm watching it for Denzel and I need the mf doom bucket
It needed more CGI Oliver Reed judging by those faces 🤣
My favorite spoiler channel
can't wait for this review!! 🤣
Ohhhhhh I was waiting for this one!!!
The count of monte cristo (2024)
I just wanted Ridley to learn from Jim Cameron and get Paul on a pool with a fucking real monkey.
Hollywood can only turn out remakes or sequels
To be honest, I don’t care about Gladiator at all, but I find Denzel Washington so attractive that I need to see him on the big screen wearing less clothes.
Please do the Netflix Christmas movie with Christina Millian! lol
After Napoleon, had a feeling Ridley would also drop the ball on this one. Cannot believe he essentially decided on a soft reboot.
Let's gooooooooo.❤
Good afternoon handsome gentlemen! Will you be covering The Girl with the Needle?
Curious : Did you guys ever review The Last Duel? I wish that movie had been given the same hype and marketing that Napolean and this movie were given.

I liked(not loved) the first Gladiator but this sounds awful. No thanks.
Holy fecal! It sounds so very complicated!
💩😮🎉
Yvie Oddly? Should've said Eureka!!! 😂
Damn
@fishjellyfilmreviews Too soon? 🙃
I know I sat through Gladiator at some point, but I remember nothing about it except that I didn't care for it.
Will you guys be my adopted fathers?
❤️
It's absolutely shit. I was actually angry watching it.
Your looking for logic and historical accuracy in a Ridley Scott film? Good luck with that!
Mescal felt rather miscast for me, he seemed too quiet and not commanding/violent enough. He didn’t captivate me, so the film never really stepped up for me. I also felt bad for Denzel in those robes, it seemed he was always readjusting the sleeves
The first Gladiator is boring and pointless. I''m not going to watch this one either. Thank you for saving me from wasting my time and money.
Haven’t seen the movie, but if yall didn't like it... then I won't like it...😂 Except for Denzel... he gets a pass..
Do you guys watch it’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia? Would love a ‘special episode’ where you all talk about tv shows
Almost done watching this ... This is the least fun I've had at a movie all year lol
Hi, will you guys review Andrea Arnold "Bird"?
Bad writing, bad acting... This movie bored me so much... 2 stars out of 5
Thanks gents for the zesty review!! 😅 Sounds like a skip...
I saw an animated film called "Ghost Cat Anzu" today at the theater... I rather enjoyed it. Is there any chance that y'all will review it? Thanks!!
Please watch "I'm still here"!
📽️🤩
jojo cranky? no, never surely....
Wait. RDJ is in this movie?
Lol

- Sounds like a boring movie. Glad I never saw the 1st one
Looking like Robert Downey Jr. is going to be both a blessing and accursed for this guy
Connie neilson looks AMAZING!!
They could’ve gotten somebody more attractive than Pedro Mezcal or Pedro tequila who the hell knows and who the hell cares😂😂
