“The people who said they didn’t like it weren’t very good looking” That took me all the way out 🤣🤣
@@Brett.Alexandria omg yes 😂😂
I haven't even started the video yet and this made me laugh out loud
😂😂 disrespectful
🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂 he is funny as shit in these reviews
Ahah Joseph's shade about the audience had me dead
Lord have mercy. We all need The Substance by the time this review is posted😂
JOSEPH!! The pic of Nick with the wig on is insane!!😂😂 Yall tickle me!
Dennis Quaid just played himself. Creepy, self-centered Reagan-era Republican. Contrarily, Demi as always is amazing.
Wait is he really a Reagan Republican in real life?! Because barf if true. I can’t think of any president that did more permanent damage to our country and the working class… if the afterlife is real I hope he’s extremely uncomfortable.
@Wraiven22 your dumb
I'm really looking forward to seeing this. We're seeing so much more of this in real life with people looking alike and getting the same surgery. I'm happy to see Demi on screen again and doing this role in particular. Thanks guys 😊
We getting cute with thumbnails lol
I found this channel a few months ago. I must say you two gentlemen are amazing movie reviewers. The extensive movie knowledge is off the charts. I enjoy the cheeky humor and back and forth between you two. Im not gay or even a member of the LGBTQ+ community, the lense in which you all say you view the films thru. Thing is I just think you two do an amazing job reviewing films from an everyones point of view if that makes sense. Sorry, im just rambling now. So glad I found this channel and hope nothing but the best for the both of you! Thanks!!
🙏🏾
Is that a cheetah print lanyard Nick is sporting as he quaffs his red wine? 🐆🍷👏🏽
At first glance, I thought it was a mega Cuban Link adorning a hoodie. Hip Hop you don't stop😃😃
Just watched it last night and it blew me away, even with high expectations. Probably top 3 of the year for me
That's great to see. I have high expectations for this one. I'm glad they paid off for you.
I think the stark contrast between the inside of her apartment where it looked kind of unattractive as opposed to the outside might be a visual allegory for the theme of the movie.
omg such a long wait for this one but I look forward to it 😁
I am so keen to see this film. I'm not great with body horror per se, but I can't wait to see Demi Moore's self-referencial depiction of an aging Hollywood starlet. While there are more roles nowadays for older women, it's refreshing to have a film address how women are "dumped" in middle age. Thank you for this review. I needed to know how gruesome it is before I see it. ❤
Just finished this tonight. It was giving Neon Demon / Death Becomes Her. Maybe Kill Bill for costumes - metal cowboy boots, dragon robe and race car yellow couture
Nick is giving such a vibe with this look. I love it ❤🔥
I can’t handle gross out body horror, so I was waiting on this review! Im glad it was a good movie! Thanks, guys!
Omg when you said only ugly people didn't like it 😂😭🤣😱 and Nick gave a little amused smirk 😏😁
8:56
ugly or not, people would like to become physically younger
Seeing it the day after tomorrow, so I'll return for your review. I am so absolutely pumped to see it!
When are we going to see you guys in the same room again ? Your reviews rule the world of movies , thank you very much !!!
Ohh I can’t wait!!!🎉❤ the trailer looks incredible
Highly stylistic with cerebral plot. Demi More is perfect. Great movie.
You’ve had a good run of cool films lately 😊
Pretty sure there was an episode similar to this one from American Horror Stories last season.
It's like a twisted 21st century re-telling of Snow White (or The Picture of Dorian Gray)
I'm sooo loving this review!!
really looking forward to this
I can’t wait to see this. It’s giving comeback for Demi, looks like she’s acting her ass off from the trailer. Gonna come back after i watch Sunday!
I was watching this, then read the SPOILER Tag. 😮 *PHEW* 😅
I’ll still check it out obviously, it’s been my most hyped movie all year. Hoping for a big crowd, big screen.
How is no one mentioning The Neon Demon? Really thought this must have been an inspiration but now I am not sure…
I just watched The Substance tonight and kept thinking of Neon Demon all the way to the end
@@Paris-t6c it has the same messaging and same genre ‘body horror’. It is literally the same film but with an entirely different story line…
Appreciated that it was more about a internal competition with a younger self - the male doctor also using it. Less focused on female competition
@@Paris-t6c true! But I think it also shows how many steps cinema has made in such a short time. It kinda feels like The Neon Demon walked so that The Substance could run.
Can’t wait to watch this film! Great review
I thought Revenge was absolutely awesome, love you guys amazing review as always
I really want to watch this movie. I skipped to your guys’ scores and I’m so excited you scored it so high. I’ll definitely revisit this video when I see this. Idk, when that’ll be, as it is most likely not gonna play near me anytime soon.
I would REALLY LOVE to hear Nick explain a movie. I always feel he has so much to say but doesnt get a chance.
I don’t do body horror but I really appreciate this review of this film. It sounds to me like the movie could also stand in as useful commentary on transhumanist philosophies (e.g., focusing on cheating or defeating death through biotechnology).
Nick looks very pretty in pink, while Joseph is very elegant and classy today.
I have been waiting for this review from the two of you for so long oh my God I'm ready! And yes I made this comment before I even pressed play😂
This was so wild. I was tickled and horrified 😂
Think The Shining, Stanley Kubrick, countless references to other films. Amazing, outrageous and infinitely entertaining. Great reviews guys
There was a twilight Zone episode called Aqua Vita…similar idea… Aging newscaster drinks a potion get young…once she runs out she gets way old… it has a semi happy ending. It’s just the same story that chasing youth leads to ruin.
The transformation sound like the ones they had where the black woman was becoming a white woman and Lovecraft country on HBO 😂😂
Oh my gosh !!! I been wanting/waiting on you guys forever to reveal this movie. Ok let’s go!!!!
Wow I didn't realize till now that she is the daughter of Andie MacDowell!
I was curious about this movie, but I have a weak stomach when it comes to body horror so sounds like I'll have to skip this one. Sounds really intriguing though. Great review!
I'm told pretty hurts. LMAO!
Can’t wait to see this one
I’d like to see a movie starring a middle-aged woman that wasn’t about her wanting to be younger 🙄
it would be nice idea if she came to the conclusion that she doesnt feel like repeating her life all over again and just accepted being older, and finding happiness, but i guess, the film didnt dare getting more philosophical, and just went to body horror.
My mind strayed a second when I thought you said the elevator was packed...and they didn't like it...It must have been the intense concentration on aging badly theme! 😅
That’s my girl Casey Hartnett in the Terrifer pic. What a scene.
Just finished watching it. From the trailer I didn't have high hopes or expectations because of the casting, Demi Moore in a horror film? Wow was I wrong. Moore did a good job and the body horror was great fun! It takes a while to get there but when it does it's right up there with The Fly, The Thing and Society with more blood than Dead Alive or the nightclub from Kill Bill. If you're a David Cronenberg fan you will love this.
Yep, your both are not there yet.🥰
I need to see this movie. And thanks again for making me 😂.
Thanks you guys. ❤🍿👍🏿
Great review guys :)
Can't wait
CANT WAIT
Ooo I wanna watch this now! 💚
I wasn’t going to watch this movie because it looked like a low budget film. It didn’t seem interesting from the trailers I saw. When I don’t want to see a movie but want to know spoilers I come here. I stopped in the middle of yalls review and watched it, I just finished…. Omg that movie was crazy. It was good the ending was 😮.
Thought was pretty great. Audience was having a good time
I thought that was Katy Perry for a second in the thumbnail.
I was like, I love an album reaction!
But I didn't know that Katy Perry changed the name of her album this close to coming out. Lol
Nick looks great with hair 😊
This sounds super interesting.
Ugh... only could watch to the 2:15 mark, this movie (so far) sounds VERY interesting!!! Gonna have to "put a pin in you gents" and watch the rest upon completion of my cinematic experience!! 🎬😅🤣😂📽
I just watched this and finished a minute ago , when I mean to tell you MY MOUTH WAS ON THE FLOOR start to finish 🫨🥴
Just to clarify, they do share a consciousness up until the ending.
Hey I like y’all smart mouth sassy reviews on movies. This movie to me have a creep show/tales from the crypt feel to it. Which is good I love horror.
I am so excited for this movie probably my most anticipated movie of the year.
Nick's smile with that hairpiece is telling...
Lmao@Joseph for "All the less good looking people didn't like it" Joseph is as vain as me!! But on a serious note I agree, esp in this society, day and age looks do matter!! Ppl judge on looks and physical beauty
Oh yea ❤❤❤
Love your review! Elizabeth Banks played aestheticianin a movie w/ Catherine Keener. Cheers!
I loved the film but nobody else found it weird that they never not even once attempted to communicate with each other? Even when they are finally both awake at the sametime they still never really spoke to each other. Found that extremely hard to believe.
I really enjoyed this film ❤❤❤❤
Joseph, You need to stop chasing the dragon(robe)! ;)
wow this movie sounds insane. i wonder how many times i will say or think "wtf" during it
I watch it in i love it so much
I know this is not related, but I wanted to reach out. I HOPE you will be doing Apartment 7A with Julia Garner review. Looks like one you'd tackle big time!
Damn, I am soooo excited to see this one. I've missed seeing Demi Moore.
LOVE movies about starlets who are victims to society's shallowness, so excited to see this!
One of my favorite Movies this year. Finally a movie that appreciates the female form. And gives sex starved 90's Kids a reason to rejoice.
Did Margeret Qualley use a body double stand in? Or is this plastic surgery?
This movie has alot to say about how we discard our older stars. Top 5 for me easy this year.
Absolutely Brilliant and riveting cinema. I LOVE THIS MOVIE! 9/10 from me.
Maybe someone made this joke already but is Dennis Quaid giving his wives The Substance IRL? (Check his wiki)
I saw this on an episode of something. Cabinet of curiosities? Masters of Horror? Something.
The American Horror Stories spinoff had an episode similar to this, but even some books I read back when I was a kid had this same “miracle makeup/plastic surgery gone wrong” idea. That’s not to say it’s copying, everything is derivative of something at this point!
Best movie ever in it's genre, scienefiction/horror/thriller. Ascension into 4th and 5th density reality is the bottomline to me. Massive reference to Stanley Kubrick's; '2001 a space odyssey'
Is this gonna be gross realistic bloody or is this gonna be ridiculous bloody like Kill Bill?
Ridiculous
Ridiculous, but _jarring,_ grotesque; had to look away from the screen at certain points.
In my opinion, great idea of this film got wasted, older and younger versions became immediately two seperate entities. One did not remeber what another had done., It would have been more interesting if it was really one person.
Can you please tell me - what happens to Sue after she injects the activator and the monster comes out? And does it come out through her spine?
I will not be able to handle those scenes on the screen but love to read/hear about the story in detail. Big fan of Death Becomes Her :)
I liked it...not spectacular & not terrible 🤷🏽♀️lol..... okkkk
Great contender for movie of the year.
I'm a fan of the channel. I have trouble with sentence structure sometimes. As a kid, I prioritized my vocabulary and spelling. I didn't care about punctuation. I would love it if you guys considered putting your pull quotes in the description. Just for a few videos if it's too tedious. But I'm curious in the realm of professional writing where you placed the commas and stuff...to make such a long sentence not be a run-on sentence.
All of our pull quotes are on Rotten Tomatoes (that’s why we’re saying them). The links are in the descriptions of the video.
@@fishjellyfilmreviews Thanks. That's good to know. Take care.
seeing this tonight
Very excited to watch this film next week. 😁 Is it true that the film has Paul Verhoeven vibes too?
Thus movie is somewhat related to an anime called lookism
Saw this in NZ last Friday at an advanced screening. Margaret Qualley and Demi Moore were both great but the latter's role seemed pretty limited - either stony faced or slathered under prosthetics. Even her ultimate fate seemed cruel on Demi as an actress, let alone her character. The film it most reminded me of was Seconds, the Rock Hudson classic, even down to the underground nature of the Substance. But it was so heavy handed all the way through: why make the final monster look like Joseph Merrick? why so much overt sexualization of the characters, especially Margaret Qualley's Sue? Lots to appreciate but I found it a bit disappointing
Don't understand why the people interacting with Margaret Qualley aren't questioning why she looks so much younger? Or was that explained?
This film is very similar to the Steven Soderberg-produced "Divinity", that not many have seen. The 80's body horror satire "Society" is also an influence. And what about "Malignant"?
Good movie, but it should have been 1:30h tops. I don't get why modern directors don't understand anymore how to pace a movie. There is seldom a reason to stretch a movie over more than 2h and this movie just destroys its pacing by that.
Will this be released in theatres or streaming? I wanna see this so badly!
Theaters first
Thanks for the review! ok- so you mentioned the apartment building she lives in. I think it's supposed to be this "famous" apartment building that mega celebs live in. It's totally off the radar. I have no idea where in LA it is. The way you describe it sounds like the way I've heard it described by people who live there, or want to live there. I know that Jane Fonda lives/lived there, and other celebs do too. I've heard it alluded to in interviews with Kathy Griffen/Kathy Griffen interviewing other celebs. I don't know if it's a secondary home for these stars or what. Demi Moore is stunning! Always has been, always will be! Cheers!
Is her mind present in the young version?
No but they share one consciousness, Sue’s her clone that exists in her own body. It’s weird but I like that they were two diff ppl that relied on the same body to live, it was trippy.
Never heard of this movie 😊
I lovedddd this movie
Bruh someone needs to write out the entire plot to talk about so it's an entire thing. Then add the personal opinions. It's so hard to follow the actual plot because it jumps back and forth between the actual movie vs personal opinion.
This is the first one I’m pausing on because I’m gonna watch it - and then come back to this 🩷💉
