Sorry, but Apple is rubbish. You get old, castrated technology for a lot higher price. I usually use the premium android models, and they worked fine for years. Currently, I use Fold 4, then used note 4 for almost 10 years. I am moderately loyal. I used Ericsson, then Nokia, then Samsung, and if Samsung does something I don't like, I will switch to something else. BTW, the colours on the Apple's rainbow are in the wrong order.

I chose Windows though because as we're in the government sector, I knew most stuff would be geared towards Windows and that's likely what other state agencies would be using, so I could troubleshoot with them easier (though some coworkers having Apple is helpful for those rare cases when I need someone to test something on a Mac for me that a user is experiencing). Isn't the reason of a "brand"? A brand refers to the identity and perception of a company, product, or service as shaped by its values, design, messaging, and customer experiences. It encompasses tangible elements such as logos, slogans, and packaging, as well as intangible aspects like reputation, customer loyalty, and emotional connection with the audience. A strong brand helps distinguish a business or product in the market, builds trust, and communicates what it stands for.
Essentially, a brand is how a company is perceived by the public and how it communicates its promise or value to consumers.

Things that are so simple on my phone are needlessly tedious and difficult on an iPhone. For example, I don't understand why you can't just download sounds to your phone to use as ringtones / notifications... you are forced to purchase them on an iPhone or go through some complicated process using garage band to make a ringtone. Why? You should just be able to download an audio file you like (or upload it from your computer) and then just use it but that's needlessly difficult.

However, Andriod sucks when it comes to things like navigating phone settings. iOS isn't perfect either, but much like Windows vs. macOS, I find Android (Samsung) has a sometimes frustrating lack of intuitiveness with how things are organized. I don't use my phone as a computer, so I don't care about how it handles files, but I value good design and user experience with even the simplest, most mundane tasks, and for me, iOS wins. TBH, I kinda want to go back to dumb phones, both to save money and to get out of the endless upgrade cycle. But I'm obviously in the minority.

I also found the iCloud lock-in predatory - using our own external storage as archive for phone storage is really hard, people just paid for iCloud
      - if your iCloud Photos is full, phone storage is full, and they only partially overlap, good luck syncing your photo album to another platform

I only ended up with an iPhone this past year by a combination of practicality for my circumstances and because I got their flagship plus Apple Watch and AirPods Pro for less than half the retail price lol. For most users, they just aren’t into tech like that and it isn’t that deep. The cultists and brand loyalists are annoying, yes, but there are other reasons people end up with iPhones than blind loyalty or stupidity. I still miss my Android phone, I still am exclusively PC for computers, my tablet is a Samsung, favorite phone of all-time was my OnePlus 7 Pro (Android).
But a good deal is a good deal, and what he said about getting “locked in” to the ecosystem is VERY TRUE. Once you add an Apple Watch, AirPods Pro or both to the mix you’re kind of trapped for a while. Overall, I still prefer Android and will go back eventually. But don’t assume someone is clueless or brand loyal just because you see them holding an iPhone or something. Most of the time it’s not that deep.
I would still argue with anyone who ever tried to state that Apple phones are superior by any objective measure, definitely not true. But for smartwatches and fitness trackers ALL AROUND…. Newer Apple Watches are the best compromise, again all around; and what sucks is they don’t work with the Android phones. Another truth is that the newer AirPods Pros are genuinely great ALL-AROUNDERS in the true wireless earbud category… if you have an iPhone ha. Are any of them the best at any one thing? No. But I understand why people who aren’t into fidgeting with tech stick to them now. Once these die I will go back to Android.

And you don't need to shop Garmin either (those also tend to be even more expensive than Apple, but they work pretty much forever). Apple is great at coming up with new problems and no solutions to them. Their watches have to be charged daily and are pretty fragile (I had Watch 6), batteries in wireless earbuds don't last very long (battery health wise not play time wise) and are not replacable, well, unless you buy a whole new set of airpods again. It's all invented to get people to spend more money, nothing more. They don't even dare to add the latest bluetooth standard to their devices or 120Hz screens (among various other things that a regular phone has) to their expensive phones, because then it's fewer things they can add in the future, be it next year, or in 10 years. Who cares that 60Hz is a pathetic refresh rate for that price, when you don't even know what it is? "Don't think, just consume product" is every company's wet dream, so they do everything they can to breed that kind of customer

The man with a Mac just works, maybe something loads a bit slower after a couple years, it has far from paid off its singular price by that point (subjectively), so he'll buy another one seamlessly transfering all his stuff. The man taught how to build a PC knows to be careful around parts and that "bean" thermal paste method is the best after all, but needs a portion of his whole workstation and workflow accomodated to this aforementioned style of upgrading, making backups, etc.
Working mostly academia and music production (and a games lover) - I learned to love and hate both. In phone world tbh I've no idea why would anyone opt for an android phone, I'm not gonna forcefeed anyone tho. At home I choose FL Studio over Abletone and professional sound monitors and/or fullsized headphones (and threads covering which ones I SHOULD use go on on forums since the Internet started I think). I can work on my Macbook and then transfer a whole project to the PC due to processsing power and aging laptop, there I can nicely mix/master stuff I creatively made on the macbook.

I say this not to instill blind trust in companies, because often they DO do wrong by the customer to make money, but to encourage people to think. I've seen people assume malice often when there likely isn't any. Honest mistakes do happen.
Now another interesting thing to consider: If a company is doing the right thing, but it's motivated by the wrong things, is it still the right thing? My personal opinion is yes, but I feel many won't agree. In either case, it is good to be able to understand what the motive is.

It's been around for a long time and used in tons of business strategies, but could be argued Apple implemented it and made it mainstream and a widely-known term. They're considered the pioneers of it, even if it's been around for a century.

Planned obsolescence involves creating a product with a set lifespan so that an end user is forced into buying a new one when the old one fails. Annual releases of a 'new and improved' model to convince customers they need an upgrade when their current model is basically just as good is a different albeit still very scummy practice

The competition has caught up, but only because apple set the bar for them to catch up to. I would argue that, at least in the mobile phone space, apple is the least bad when it comes to planned obsolescence.

Absolutely true. And it's false to say Apple uses planned obsolescence any more than any other company. In fact, my experience has been more the opposite. My may Apple products over the years (phones, Macs, accessories) have had very long lifespans compared to anyone else I know who uses other brands. My Macs keep chugging for up to 10 years. I've never had one die, I've only replaced them because I eventually wanted something faster, larger, more compatible (expanded I/O, etc.). It was never because they became obsolete or failed.

The green bubble/blue bubble really isn’t a thing for most of the world because outside of the US 3rd party apps like WhatsApp are usually the most commonly used messaging apps. But also you can’t even read an Apple launch event article without an avalanche of android/samsung users flooding the comments with their cliched remarks not realizing that half the stuff they poke fun at Apple for is being done by samsung as well. Big corporations are going to big corporate. Use whatever you wanna use if it makes you happy.

We use apple products because certain apps we use for business only work on apple products and we have constant issues with every single one of them. We started switching to surfaces and it's made our life 100x easier. Believe an apple fan boy that knows nothing about tech if you want. Apple get caught secretly making older version of their phone slower so the only way to fix the problem is "buy the solution" like buy a new phone for example, and there's no alternative like fixing your phone because iPhone lock your phone if anyone ever try to replace components of the phone so it feels like we don't own the phone that people bought which forcing people to "buy the solution".
Apple really great at business and marketing themselves at the right people. But also really great at controlling everything.
