I was so surprised that Denzel was my favorite character in this film . Also I really appreciate Pedro's subverted General as an honest good man, similar to Maximus.
The biggest gripe I have with this movie is that they completely cut out one of the main actress. For those who don't know (which I assume a lot of you don't due to all the western media trying to hide all this), May Calamawy (Layla from Moon Knight) was casted in Gladiator II last year and was said to be one of the main leads of the film, but things got fishy when the trailers came out and she was nowhere to be seen, and then it finally came out and she has been cut from the entire movie. And I highly believe the reason for her being cut is because of the actress is Palestinian, and Paramount (among all the western media) just disgustingly either ignoring / downplaying the genocide and continuously spreading Israel's lies. And this wouldn't be the first time Paramount was proudly spreading zionist propaganda. Remember last year when both Paramount and Spyglass Media wrongfully fired Melissa Barrera from Scream 7 cause she was rightfully criticising Israel's war crimes and for wanting a ceasefire, and they framed her for being anti-semetic even tho there's evidence that she wasn't? I do, and I guarantee a similar thing happened with May Calamawy when Oct 7 happened all because of her Palestinian background. Absolutely disgusting.
Don't get too excited. Most of these positive reviewers who got an invite to a private screening are just fulfilling their part of the deal. Which is to hype up the movie (but also criticize it slightly so that it's believable) and make you want to see it despite the general consensus being mid.
This has been getting really good early reviews which is making me even more excited for when me and my dad watch it together in theaters. I’m pumped for this

Watched it last night. I'm puzzled as to why so many reviewers have praised this movie. The script is just bad, the actions scenes are unimpressive and Mescal, while not a bad actor, is clearly miscast here: he's not even close to having the magnetism required to play a character which is written as basically a carbon-copy of Maximus, a man that's lost everything and is now only driven by vengeance. And don't get me started on the CGI baboons and sharks... Denzel is the only thing worth saving here. The rest is just disappointing.
100% it was fucking terrible. Such a mess of a film with a ridiculous plot, characters without presence or gravitas, and a story that just leaves you ??????????????
I just came back from the cinema. It was horrible. The no sense writing, dialouges so bad, lots of pompous speeches. The first battle looked so good I had hope it would actually be a good movie. Then the characters started speaking. And then I knew I am screwed for the next 3 hours. It made me feel nothing except laughing at some points.
I don’t get all the hate it’s getting. I knew it wasn’t going to be like the first one and it’s not supposed to be. In terms of action, it was F’ing awesome and the ending I thought was a cool touch to the OG movie
I really enjoy it 2, the photography, music, efects 10/10. Ridley is such a genious he creates his own script in the war scenes. Like in westerns there is an economy of every line , there was no need of more dialogue , its just perfect. I love it.
Just seen this really enjoyed the film. Loved Denzel 6:40 Washington, Paul Mescal and especially Pedro Pascal. This should definitely promote Pedro Pascal in the best way.

Ridley Scott's last real hit was The Martian 9yrs ago! Absolutely no chance with its reported $250-310m production budget that Gladiator 2 has a decent shot of being profitable theatrically :( For context, his other big hit in the 2000 Gladiator Movie grossed $465.5m worldwide on a $103m production budget (not adjusted for inflation).
It sounds like if you liked the first film you'll enjoy Gladiator 2. There's a generational aspect that will probably make it profitable at the box office.
Overly melodramatic at times, but it was surprisingly good & definitely fun/beautiful. Also, Denzel wasn't 'out of place' as some thought it would be. Great one to see in cinema's for the visuals. Also, one of the coolest intro / title screens ever imo. If you set nostalgia aside, I think it's ALMOST as good as the first one, definitely not much of a difference

It's not my fav movie of the year or anything, would pick Dune 2, Wild Robot, Longlegs, Furiosa, maybe Juror #2 or Kinds Of Kindness over it from 'bigger cinema' releases, but I'd put Gladiator II up there with & probably above Alien Romulus, Beetlejuice, The Substance, Inside Out 2, Deadpool & Wolverine, Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes, The Fall Guy, A Quiet Place etc. Def better than Hit Man, Joker II, Venom III.

Just watched It. Pure masterpiece. Best movie of the year and one of the greatest movies that i have ever seen. Definitely best movie of the year for me, up there with Dune Part 2 and Furiousa
It’s a full circle cinematic moment. It had everything we could have asked for. Entertaining start to finish. Plot twists and action sequences. Epic performances from leads and supporting cast. This is Ridley Scott saying thank you to the fans. Big risks, bold choices… all paid off! We got an actual deeper look into the corruption of Rome which became a character of its own. All the negative reviewers have the same things in common they are tough to please and no movie would have been good enough for them.
Are you not entertained lol. Strength and honor. My only issue is the retcon of Lucius being Maximus' son. They should've not done that but still will watch it. Denzel's character reminds me of Oliver Reed's Proximo but with a slight difference where he seeks power. Also from the looks of it Peter Mensah is the friend, ally to Lucius just as Juba was a friend and ally to Maximus.
@@lavinder11 yeah. Maximus had a son and a wife in the first film that got murdered by Commados in the first film. Lucius already had a father that had died years prior and Maximus was already married with a wife and kid as they were waiting for him to return after the war.
If everyone took a second and didn’t compare it to one of the greatest movies of all time. And compared it to the 99% absolute trash that’s coming out in Hollywood these days. This was a good and fun film. Who tf would actually expect it to live up to the original 😂😅
No chance positive reviewers aren't getting something out of praising this boring, formulaic film. Acting isn't up to par - Connie Nielsen was particularly painfully bad, totally unlike her performance in the first. Music? Forgettable. Every emotional impact relies on the first film. Denzel was a treat to watch but it definitely doesnt make sense for him to be in this film.

You aren’t invested in any character the same way you were about the ones in the first film. The actors did their best but the script was just bad. The sharks and the mutant baboons were terrible as well, cheapened the film and felt totally unrealistic and out of place. There was no reason to make this movie apart from to make money. The story was so forced.

Watched it last night, not a scratch on the first. Paul Mescal I don't think was a strong enough lead actor, he wasn't serious like Crowe and his lines were forgettable. His journey to the colosseum lacked depth and his bonds with the other gladiators didn't quite sit right. Pedro Pascal of would be been better lead for sure, Denzel I was excited to see but again felt he was wrong for the part. The fight scenes seemed rushed, in the OG there was so much more suspense, better fight scenes I still remember them vividly unlike last night watch which again seem like a rushed burr, the water scene with sharks could of been so much better. Maybe I'm too critical, but they just don't make movies like they used too.
The Action scenes were great but the paceing throughout the second half was completely off and felt rushed. The writing and acting was cringe in parts also, It felt as though there was no worthy final fight either unlike the original. That being said, it’s still worth the watch, I hope this film is successful so we get more films in this genre.
The biggest strength of 2 is Denzel’s Washington’s character and performance and its subversion of the structure of the first film. Sadly it’s let down by the writing of Mescal’s character. Mescal is great but his hero is an emotional void.

I just watched this today and was interested in seeing other opinions. Honestly, I thought it was awful. The beginning held more promise but the latter half was terrible. I was laughing by the end. It had some nice moments, but they were moments in between terrible writing, bad character development, dodgy performances, and alot of potential that just did not pull through.
One of the opening scenes was of a girl boss gladiator told me all i needed to know. At this point, Mel Gibson is the only person keeping traditional masculinity alive in Hollywood.
Glad to see a video with people not immediately jumping on the hate wagon bc it’s just “aNoThEr HoLlYwOoD sEqUeL” and actually realizing how well this film was produced, shot, and written. There’s so much depth to this movie from the characters to the themes that’s it’s unfathomable to call it unworthy or uninspired. Also all the cast just put their heart and soul into this film especially Denzel. Amazing performances all around, great drama, and sick action scenes made for a solid ass movie 🤌

The original was so great, it would have been easy to dismiss any sequel. This was a very entertaining, if totally unnecessary film.

The Action scenes were great but the paceing throughout the second half was completely off and felt rushed. The writing and acting was cringe in parts also, It felt as though there was no worthy final fight either unlike the original. That being said, it’s still worth the watch, I hope this film is successful so we get more films in this genre.
The biggest strength of 2 is Denzel’s Washington’s character and performance and its subversion of the structure of the first film. Sadly it’s let down by the writing of Mescal’s character. Mescal is great but his hero is an emotional void.

Frankly, if you aren't entertained by Gladiator II then stop watching movies altogether because this is as good as it gets. you miserable so and so.

I just watched this today and was interested in seeing other opinions. Honestly, I thought it was awful. The beginning held more promise but the latter half was terrible. I was laughing by the end. It had some nice moments, but they were moments in between terrible writing, bad character development, dodgy performances, and alot of potential that just did not pull through.

They flooded the Colosseum with fresh water though, and they didn't cart sharks thousands of miles to Rome. Sharks don't even live in the Med!

Garbage. This is misleading review. Poor character development. The story is predictable. fell asleep while watching it.
Glad to see a video with people not immediately jumping on the hate wagon bc it’s just “aNoThEr HoLlYwOoD sEqUeL” and actually realizing how well this film was produced, shot, and written. There’s so much depth to this movie from the characters to the themes that’s it’s unfathomable to call it unworthy or uninspired. Also all the cast just put their heart and soul into this film especially Denzel. Amazing performances all around, great drama, and sick action scenes made for a solid ass movie 🤌

Seriously, that psycho twin... Doesn't connect and how in the hell did they get in there??? Secondly, why not get Spencer Treat Clark as Lucius. And Mr. Washington, you make a huge mistake to take part in this. The dialogue , the the plot, the CGI, Scores, cinematography is a total flop! Conclusion, this movie is a failure, period!
