Thanks once again Tim for the Yarmouth Video. I just love that place so much and the sooner i move up that way the better. Thanks again and congrats with the new baby. 🙂
That was brilliant Tim. I've been to Great Yarmouth lots of times as a friend of mine moved to Caister on sea. Sadly he has now passed away, so havn't been up there for 6 years, but I used to love the old Market - there was sometimes a guy who had Owls there. Shame about the Pea stall closing down. Regent Road was always fun to walk down - heaving in the summer months. This video brought back so many fond memories of happy days, admiring the faded grandeur of the place and then the short drive back up to Caister. I've just found your channel, quite by chance, and am hooked. Your in depth, honest reviews are excellent, and I especially like the 'Worst Rated Hotels and Seaside Resorts' . MASSIVE, MASSIVE Thumbs up from me. Great Yarmouth was a genuine pleasure to visit for me and my family to visit back in 2011, we adored the place. We stayed in Hemsby but all of our time was spent in Great Yarmouth. We completely missed the Hippodrome Circus building; got to see that next time as it looks wonderful. Thanks so much Tim for your time and effort on putting this super movie together; very much appreciated. I know you have visited my neck of the woods (North Yorkshire) but how did you miss Saltburn by the Sea? Its a stunning little resort with the only remaining pier on the North Yorkshire coast!! It was originally 1500 feet long but due to many reasons is now only 681 feet. However, its a fab pier to walk under at low tide. Next time you are in North Yorkshire please check the town out; its lovely. Thanks again Tiim for your continued brilliant work. Hope you Gabby and the little one are well.
Hi Tim loved your video today brought back so many mainly childhood memories , been in the pleasure Beach loads of time my mom and her family had stalls there in the late 40,s but sold them and moved to bham , I used to go roller skating at the Wellington pier my uncle used to sing there with david Whitfield and other stars, my nan used to take us to joyland and the waterways, my aunt had a guest house in St Peters Rd by the circus , remember the floods early 50,s all my family had to move in my nans flat as she was on the 2nd floor I could go on and on .
Another lovely video Tim - what a shame about the new market putting rent up so people can’t afford it - if everybody left there wouldn’t be a market! Best of luck to the chap with the pea and pie stall - hopefully he can find a way to carry on. It’s people like him that make Great Yarmouth what it is and what keeps people coming back year on year. Thanks Tim😀
I have many happy memories of the beach huts on the “quiet” side of pier, we used to rent one every summer. We now rent one of the wooden ones on the other side behind the sea life. When Jim Davidson was in charge of Wellington pier/theatre/winter gardens, the BBC did a program about his application for lottery funding. They contacted my family and a few others who were regulars in the beach huts, asking if we would like to appear on the show and talk about why we loved Yarmouth etc. They spent a week with us, filming on the beach during the day, and at night at a couple of shows in the Theatre. The show was called “A pier too far”, I have it on the original VHS and now DVD, one day I’ll try and make a digital copy and upload to RUclips
I loved this! I grew up at the Jersey Shore, NJ, USA and this walk reminds me of going to Asbury Park and walking the boards in the winter. Also Spring Lake, Bradley Beach, Sea Girt and Avon.
I used to work at the model village 20 years ago, in the gardens, I think they did reduced hours in the winter but it was a waste of time, some days lucky to see 1 person walking around. When you mentioned the Banksy thing I had to google it 'cos it was new information to me, it's surprising how it still looks pretty much the same (at least from a distance), happy for them getting a windfall courtesy of Banksy, I hope it keep Merrivale in Yarmouth for many years to come.
Its change so much the last time I went to Great Yarmouth was 25 years ago, I will have to look in to going again but its over 4 hours drive from Bristol
Thanks for the video. It has inspired us to go and try the pea stall before it closes. We are planning a trip up to Yarmouth in the next couple of weeks 🙂
Great video Tim brought back so many memories off when I was a child used to go to Great Yarmouth every year for three weeks holiday always used to go to the market for peas and chips of a night-time the peas and chips was out of this world. So sad to hear the pea stall will be going. my mum and dad took me too Great Yarmouth when I was a baby I have loads of photos of when I was kid. I also have some photos of my late mum and dad standing at the pea stall in the market and the original staff in the background I'm gutted that is closing. it's not fair after all these years I haven't been to Great Yarmouth for a long time but always enjoy your videos of Great Yarmouth brings a lot of memories back.👍👌
as far as i know the pea n pie stall whose doing chips too is staying at the new gty market, i'll check him out shortly when im up for a nice week on my own
I guess the beach looks busier on photos from 50s and 60s compared to now because factory workers in those times would of had an annual factory holiday in August, and people tended to holiday in uk and not tend to travel abroad. Great video nice to see Yarmouth in quiet time.
Workers used to go all on the same 'Wake's Week'. But, even in the '60s, the season only lasted 16 weeks and then the guesthouses were boarded up. Seaside tourism is much bigger today.
We’ve decided to holiday in Great Yarmouth this year after watching your videos. We’ve only ever gone to Blackpool in 8 years being together so it will be a nice change. Probably coming in September xx

What an insight into the innermost workings of Yarmouth during January, Tim! However, it was sad about the pea stall. When I was a lad in the 60s, my mum used to take me to the Central Market, Nottingham, always on a Saturday morning, primarily to have mushy peas and mint sauce (Apparently, a Nottingham tradition). But I can bet a pound to a penny the stall has vanished from the now Victoria Centre, just like the many others 😕

I remember going to a seaside holiday one year and getting some chips and walking along the sea front. I didn't notice anything then i just looked behind me and a bunch of seagulls where following me. It was surreal and kind of creepy and beautiful at the same time. The didn't try to steal food they where waiting for some. Very british lol
Shame most off the market is going. I used to love a pie and peas from that stall. It reminds me off my trip adelaide they call them pie floaters. And the butchers gone too. He done some cracking T-bone steaks there. Great vid Tim.
Hi Tim. It's sad the new market won't have the same stalls as the old one. Especially as some will lose their businesses over it. That is totally wrong you should get a petion up so people like John can still have his stall.
john decided to stay doing his pies and now chips, my fav brewers gty town council kicked them out after been trading there since 1902, i'll ever so much will miss robin and his team, shame.
Great video again Tim, loved seeing Great Yarmouth in January. Looked a great day with the weather too. Real shame about the market stall holders being priced out, unfortunately seems to happen a lot as I live in Newark on Trent which used to have a great indoor and outdoor markets but redevelopment and rising stall rents have severely depleted it. Not all the local Council at fault tho, emergence of mass supermarkets and online shopping hasn’t helped. Looking forward to future videos, just started rewatching your videos from the start again especially whilst recently recovering from Covid.
We came for a turkey and tinsel stay. The hotel and I can’t remember its name was dreadful. However the market and all the chip stalls were the best part of the weekend.
Thank you so much lovely commentry a lot of the market sellers never came back and even though it looks lovely the new market is dubbed the glorified sheds and over priced rent as all boroughs now to well.
@@WalkWithMeTim definately not, mines a large portion even if i just had a good breakfast, always room for some chips... think its 1.70 which aint bad at all, london you pay 2.50 plus
The pea stall is now moving into the new market, it will also be selling chips. Only last week the sea came upto Sarah’s Tea Room wall, seen this happen at least three times in last ten years. The pleasure beach do not usually dismantle the rides, the area you talk about they are adding new ones. The old Palmers stall in the marketplace you can see in your video is to become the new library and University linked learning centre.
Very interesting more so as I visited on 3oDecember. I was amazed at how little was open. At least the Mariners and Tombstone pubs, both great by the way, were open. Regent street just needed some tumbleweed rolling down it. Great shame about the market. Old marketeers forced out for one reason or another. I reckon a lot of brown envelopes changed hands in this deal.
Could I make a request when you next make a series in the local area... Could you do more content going to and speaking about places that mean a lot to you and the odd memory that you have? Also could you do more chats to locals that you know either well or those that you recognise, like this one with John, the pea stall guy? I know you already include this kind of content, but I feel like focussing more on the slightly more personal side or focussing more on locals and local businesses would make the revists more varied and could help local businesses. I was thinking about it Tim and you are actually somebody in local tourism. I think you have the right and stature to walk around and talk to anybody and to ask some interesting questions. I reckon that over the years you have drummed up quite a lot of business in the area. You should be proud of yourself mate and anybody with their head screwed on right would want to chat with you and potentially get a little boost from your viewers. Happy new year to you, Gabby and the kids...
The sea used to go under that pier I used to swim under it as a kid been going Great Yarmouth since I was a kid I go now to visit my grandparents/Moms graves 3 times a yesrc
@@WalkWithMeTim I learnt to swim in that sea been going since I was 2 years old Hemsby was the holiday home base Yarmouth every day I used uk go joyland fair then up to the big one so did both my lads and they are 30 and 29 this year ❤️
It’s so sad visiting seaside towns in the UK when the majority of attractions are closed especially on a nice sunny day !! Went to Southend-on-Sea at the weekend (filmed a vlog) and the place was rammed, mind you there was a few things open tho but Adventure Island is closed
I know I think they should open .. people will still come .. look at blackpool, it used to be worse April easter open then everything closed part from weekends til end of may!
Hi Tim great vidio , it's great having a new market on the cards ,but long established family businesses like the pea store ,and butchers etc ,and problely other stores ,left behind because of expensive new market rents etc ,such a shame ,a hope the pea store can relocate some where tim
Also Tim , regards markets ,what's the future smaller market traders? apparently two days ago bonnet Street market traders in Blackpool Lancashire (the one near coral island) bonny street market ,have got 28 days to close ,remove there property on site in market ,so sad also Tim ,it's great to see investment seaside's,but how much benefit for normal traders ,interesting issue ,hope you will do a vidio ,more of this going on our Tim 👍
After all that effort to paint the Sea-life Centre the painters missed a bit 🤦♂️. I love the videos as it helps me to escape to better places like Great Yarmouth.
That’s such a great shame about the pea stall closing down come April as a kid I always used too have pot of hot peas from there when I was on holiday with my family. It will not be the same with the new market when it open.
Tim I know this was last Yr, but you said there's no wheel, on the seafront beach place there is definitely a wheel , not exactly the eye but a wheel. I'm just watching this video and I've paused it, n had a good look. Definitely a wheel there. Xx just saying. X😊it's right behind that big green ride or whatever that is xx behind joy land x
damn i forgot how nice the weather can be in winter in blighty.and oh how i miss uk seaside towns..i've been in sweden almost 20 years now and hate the winters.
Visitors like it. People from seaside resorts usually hate living in them, unless they're quieter seaside towns without attractions and crowds. Generally, seaside residents would never visit a British resort, and always fly abroad. I live in Rhyl but travel around the coast: everyone else's knowledge seems to be restricted to Llandudno and the North West resorts as far as Blackpool.
Hi did you ever see the dissinters burial ground just of market place, I think the council blocked off public access, was a beautiful peaceful place I used to vist regularly when I lived in Yarmouth 25 years ago, I'm sure there is now a wall where the entrance was 😔
Hey Tim! Been a fan since i found your vids this past summer, was looking for some spooky nostalgic ghost stories about my childhood holiday destination, came across your halloween 2020 ghost tour, all your vids are really insightful and are perfect for a hit of nostalgia on a bad day. I was wondering is that old timey penny arcade next to the model villaige still around? It's been around 14 years since I last went to Yarmouth myself but that place always mesmerised me. Congrats on the little one by the way, wishing all the best for you and Gabbie :)
yes williamson's old penny arcade is still there as well in wroxham where he first started, i ask him how much is a bag of old pennies, its £1.00 for a dozen, chaeper than ebay etc. the cafe along side the arcade n merrivale model village now under new management. im there in a few weeks time and i never miss the old penny arcade. childhood memories for me in 60's n early 70's.
l used to go to Gt Yarmouth a lot but every year it seems to get worse. one thing that would help is if there was free parking on the sea front to make people feal more welcome.

Great video. I’m visiting for the first time at the end of July 2022
im sure Gt Yarmouth will welcome you with open arms
I remember going to a seaside holiday one year and getting some chips and walking along the sea front. I didn't notice anything then i just looked behind me and a bunch of seagulls where following me. It was surreal and kind of creepy and beautiful at the same time. The didn't try to steal food they where waiting for some. Very british lol
Great vlog sir hope Gaby and Casper are ok - Kevin & Cyndy 😎
They are! thanks Kevin
Shame most off the market is going. I used to love a pie and peas from that stall. It reminds me off my trip adelaide they call them pie floaters. And the butchers gone too. He done some cracking T-bone steaks there. Great vid Tim.
yes altho I never shopped there I hear it was great MEAT!
Hi Tim. It's sad the new market won't have the same stalls as the old one. Especially as some will lose their businesses over it. That is totally wrong you should get a petion up so people like John can still have his stall.
you never know ;-)
john decided to stay doing his pies and now chips, my fav brewers gty town council kicked them out after been trading there since 1902, i'll ever so much will miss robin and his team, shame.
We really need to visit this summer, it looks such a cool place Tim
Lots going on too
@@WalkWithMeTim It reminds me of a smarter Blackpool. I need to visit Pleasure Beach & go for a ride on the 🐌
Great video again Tim, loved seeing Great Yarmouth in January.
Yes Richard, you bring up some valid points.. shame tho
We came for a turkey and tinsel stay. The hotel and I can’t remember its name was dreadful. However the market and all the chip stalls were the best part of the weekend.
Hi Tim another great vid. i will be staying in Yarmouth on Aug bank holiday week at the Marine Lodge
Have fun nice hotel that!
@@WalkWithMeTim Thanks Tim, I have stayed there quite a few times, it's a lovely hotel
Can't believe the pea stall is closing down
I know such a shame
We came up on the 27 dec we love it
😍
Hi Tim can't wait to get back to Yarmouth
lets hope the summer will be kind
Hopefully Tim
Thank you so much lovely commentry a lot of the market sellers never came back and even though it looks lovely the new market is dubbed the glorified sheds and over priced rent as all boroughs now to well.
Can’t wait for a summer trip to Merrivale
have you been at night?
@@WalkWithMeTim no but it looks fun
Quite a good tour
quite a good tour! ;-)
Re: chips, as long as it’s a fair price for a good portion, yes I agree, they do all taste pretty damn similar 👍🇬🇧❤️
lol im not the only one then
@@WalkWithMeTim definately not, mines a large portion even if i just had a good breakfast, always room for some chips... think its 1.70 which aint bad at all, london you pay 2.50 plus
The pea stall is now moving into the new market, it will also be selling chips.
Only last week the sea came upto Sarah’s Tea Room wall, seen this happen at least three times in last ten years. The pleasure beach do not usually dismantle the rides, the area you talk about they are adding new ones. The old Palmers stall in the marketplace you can see in your video is to become the new library and University linked learning centre.
wow is that true! great if it is
@@WalkWithMeTim Yes it was in the Mercury and on Look East.
I reckon a lot of brown envelopes changed hands in this deal.
yes love those pubs!
Yarmouth Market = Peas. Every year without fail
Been there nice place
agree ;-)
The sea used to go under that pier I used to swim under it as a kid been going Great Yarmouth since I was a kid I go now to visit my grandparents/Moms graves 3 times a yesrc
that was some time ago
Adventure Island was closed at Easter, when I stayed, and Southend was rammed.
pop on the pier, you might see jamie oliver at his cafe there.
Hi Tim great vidio , it's great having a new market on the cards ,but long established family businesses like the pea store ,and butchers etc ,and problely other stores ,left behind because of expensive new market rents etc ,such a shame ,a hope the pea store can relocate some where tim
Also Tim , regards markets ,what's the future smaller market traders? apparently two days ago bonnet Street market traders in Blackpool Lancashire (the one near coral island) bonny street market ,have got 28 days to close ,remove there property on site in market ,so sad also Tim ,it's great to see investment seaside's,but how much benefit for normal traders ,interesting issue ,hope you will do a vidio ,more of this going on our Tim 👍
yes maybe he should go mobile
yes I loved that market in Blackpool
When you doing any filming in great Yarmouth again? I really enjoy them
soon ;-)
@@WalkWithMeTim thanks for letting me know. You going near seashore holiday park at all?
After all that effort to paint the Sea-life Centre the painters missed a bit 🤦♂️. I love the videos as it helps me to escape to better places like Great Yarmouth.
lol you are right there Shane!
7:08 awesome you can see my name at the top of the leaderboard if you pause at the right time ☺️
Lol
Awesome 😎
Thanks 🤗
@@WalkWithMeTim 👍👍👍👍
Marsdens is my favourite
😉
We noticed so many foot prints under the drug den 🤣
?? where
No comment why to what I said ..it’s true as the pier as always been where most crack heads gather early hours .
@@WalkWithMeTim Britannia Pier where you went under .stay safe tim where you walk in gt Yarmouth 👍🏻
That’s such a great shame about the pea stall closing down come April as a kid I always used too have pot of hot peas from there when I was on holiday with my family. It will not be the same with the new market when it open.
yes all change!
Will be live from here soon
damn i forgot how nice the weather can be in winter in blighty.and oh how i miss uk seaside towns..i've been in sweden almost 20 years now and hate the winters.
yes and Norfolk is the driest part of the uk
Even in the early 1980s Great Yarmouth was busy with Scottish people during the 'Glasgow fortnight'.
Yep it was a golden time factory's up north would close and people would come down
Docwra cheesy chips layered with gravy
Sounds nice
I live here, and well done at making it look nice, because it really is a dump
lol
Visitors like it. People from seaside resorts usually hate living in them, unless they're quieter seaside towns without attractions and crowds. Generally, seaside residents would never visit a British resort, and always fly abroad. I live in Rhyl but travel around the coast: everyone else's knowledge seems to be restricted to Llandudno and the North West resorts as far as Blackpool.
Hi did you ever see the dissinters burial ground just of market place, I think the council blocked off public access, was a beautiful peaceful place I used to vist regularly when I lived in Yarmouth 25 years ago, I'm sure there is now a wall where the entrance was 😔
Not sure
It only had a few graves in it and I can't find anything on the Web about it I 😔
Have you seen the new pendulum ride they are adding in that cleared space next to the roller coaster ?
yes .. not very big tho
I would like to see a Madame Tussauds in Great Yarmouth.
That would be good!
How do you make a band stand? Take the chairs away
;-)
Best chips
;-)
Hi tim we always have market chips when we come to great yarmouth they are the best. Are you going to be doing any more ghost walks?
maybe at halloween lol
@@WalkWithMeTim the day after my wedding anniversary, its treat if i remember or trick if i dont n i always forget he he
Thanks mate, yes it is if you watch the model village video you can see it there
I go to Great Yarmouth every year basically with my family and I love the arcades there, and you can still use the old penny's!
yes williamson's old penny arcade is still there as well in wroxham where he first started, i ask him how much is a bag of old pennies, its £1.00 for a dozen, chaeper than ebay etc. the cafe along side the arcade n merrivale model village now under new management. im there in a few weeks time and i never miss the old penny arcade. childhood memories for me in 60's n early 70's.
Wish this in SF Ca..😊
l used to go to Gt Yarmouth a lot but every year it seems to get worse. one thing that would help is if there was free parking on the sea front to make people feal more welcome.
i love the market chippy?!?
Me too
@@WalkWithMeTim yeah the last time i had it was 2 years ago lol im going in august this year 2022 so hope it is still there because the new market is happening i hope they keep the fish and chip shop?!
