I went on this rollercoaster for the first time in 1981 age 15 whilst on holiday with my mum, siblings and my best friend. It was on that coaster that my mum met a brake man and they ended up together and produced my youngest brother. As a grandmother myself now, I took my grandson to Yarmouth to ride it again!

I have been riding this since about 1972 when I was 6 with my then older sister.
Missed a few years in the 80s but have never missed a year since about 1990. Always have to go on at least once when we are there yearly. My daughter who is now 13 has ridden this since she was 4 years old. I remember her first time.
    Me. 'Did you enjoy it'
An excited Her. 'Yes, I need the toilet'
Tim. Been looking forward to this one. Great video as always.

My father designed and made the light installation at the top of the first incline. I think it must have been in the 60's so it's been up there a while! I remember him telling me how he had climbed to the top when they installed it. I had no idea it had a name! He used to get lots of free tickets for rides at the Pleasure Beach and some of his apprentices had jobs there, so in the summer I and my friends would spend Friday nights going round and round on the roller coaster. Happy days!

@ Pamela Batley, Thank you Pamela, I think it is fascinating to learn how many people have such truly fond memories of this fairground ride and how much it means to them. Your information contains yet another piece of wonderful fact about this structure. I wonder if there are enough people who would perhaps be interested in forming a "Pleasure Beach Great Yarmouth appreciation society"? Tim what do you think?

Great walking trip Tim. I use to live in Great Yarmouth in the 50’s and 60’s, on Seafield Close. Yes I could see our old house from the top of your walk. Moved over to Vancouver BC in 1964. Thank you for the memories. Hopefully I will be in Great Yarmouth this August. May even try to catch a ride on the Coaster, that will bring back memories for sure.

Well Done Tim .I visited Great Yarmouth in 1965 I was 10 at the time , I had rode the Scenic Railway (Long since demolished) in Barry Island many times and this is the exact same ride (slightly shorter though i believe) , I headed for the queue but my aunt dragged me back saying I was too young so never did manage to ride it , again well done for such an informative video .

Happy new year to you and the family and all the best for the upcoming happy event.
Yesterday as part of an activity at the care home I work at, I got talking to a guy and the conversation turned to Great Yarmouth. It turns out he built fairground rides back in the day . You video hit the spot with him. The memories came flooding back. Turns out he was part of the group that built the snail part attached to the ride in your video.
Watching that I know made his day.

Absolutely fabulous video. I've loved this coaster ever since I first saw it in the 60s. Was gutted when the mountain scenery was removed. It was so beautiful compared to how plain it looks now. There used to be a castle on the top as well. One thing I always wanted to know, is the Brakeman necessary? Surely the coaster wouldn't be allowed to run if there was any possibility of it flying off the track? What if the Brakeman fell ill and failed to apply the brakes. If the train flew off the track it would be absolute carnage. For this reason I can't believe that the Brakeman is absolutely necessary.

What a great video tim, really enjoyed it, I've watched this about 5 times now lol, i never get bored of learning about the history of this ride and some of the questions you asked, has answered some of my own questions. I always wondered what was in the little door at the top of the chain lift. 🙂👍

Great vid. Living very local I must’ve ridden this coaster a hundred times or so. As a kid in the 80’s, that second drop always felt like you were entering the depths of hell at about 1000 mph 😂.

Great video Tim!! Really pleased you got to do this walk on the roller coaster. I'm not a massive fan of riding roller coasters but think I will have to give this a try next time I am in Great Yarmouth.

You should get some fishing magnets, superglue them to your shoes and do a walking tour of some modern coasters. Including the loops. would be a thing lol.

Looks like great fun walking the track, even though I have a real problem with heights. Not so much a fear, as a genuine physical reaction, dizziness, heart thumping, etc. No problem with air travel, and I have even briefly flown a glider, under expert supervision!
On another point, having owned a (proper, Birmingham built) Mini, I can confirm that being lower to the ground gives the illusion of travelling more quickly!

An interesting addition to the channel Tim. I love my coasters and themeparks, and now you put out something a little bit different for you and put your Tim spin on it. Good job...Wait, this was uploaded 2 years ago?! lol RUclips just let me know about it.
