When I got notified that you'd be on in 30 minutes with this review, I said to myself, "That's not for her, she won't like it."
I can see how a lot of people are uncomfortable with much of the movie.
Thanks for your entertaining, honest, reaction.
Hope to see you in more😷✌
Sometimes films grow on you. At first I wasn't that impressed with Pulp Fiction. Now after watching it a couple times I think it's a good film that tells it's story in a very unconventional way.
Vincent was in the bathroom all the time because long term opioid use makes a person extremely constipated. The drugs put your digestive system into slow motion.
I was on morphine for a couple years to mitigate the pain from degenerative joint disease while fighting a severe staph infection in one leg. I had a lot of problems from the drugs.
I really like your reaction and you're right, this movie is a masterpiece and it isn't for everyone. It even has a lot of humorous scenes but it definitively isn't a comedy. 😉
If you want to watch some really good comedies I would recommend Operation Petticoat (1959), We're No Angels (1955), Some like it hot (1959), Mrs Doubtfire (1993), The Birdcage (1996) or While you were sleeping (1995, fits also as a christmas movie). 😂
Also especially in the 80s/90s there were some great franchises like Back to the future I-III, the 'Naked Gun' movies, Ghostbusters I+II (+Afterlife!) and newer ones are e.g. Rush Hour I-III and Men in Black I-III.😉
@@doc0815martens it absolutely is a comedy. It's dark comedy.
Asking if John Travolta can dance? Now you need to add Saturday Night Fever (1977) to your list. And maybe Grease (1978), too.
I think she'd love those
She asked if Vincent Vega can dance, big difference.
@@scipioafricanus5871 John Travolta can dance, but Vincent Vega cannot (especially while on heroin)
...well, if we're talking about *Travolta* dancing.. gotta add Urban Cowboy too (also an awesome "slice of life" movie)
Fun fact: Uma Thurman had an anxiety attack before the dance scene with Travolta because she was worried about being compared to him.
best most innocently perfect naive question ever
"Does he even know how to dance?"
That's John fkn Travolta!!! LOL I know that doesn't mean a lot to you but it's sure pure comedic gold from us who does know.
😁
Always makes me laugh when younger types say it.
I'm 50 and smiled at that myself.
Yes, that cracked me up. 😂
I was thinking the same thing.
"Does he know how to dance?" How cute! All I have to say is, Saturday Night Fever, Grease, Urban Cowboy, just a few...
The movie isn’t for everyone. An honest negative reaction is far better than a contrived positive reaction. The dialogue between Vincent and Jules is great. And Jules’ epiphany at the end: “You are the weak; and I am the tyranny of evil men” is brilliant.
How people handle the pawn shop scene is how these reactions go.
Another little fun fact;
The guy who played Marvin(who accidentally gets shot in the face by Vincent) is Phil LaMarr, who later made his career as a voice actor. He is today known as the voice of Hermes Conrad in Futurama, Kit Fisto in Clone Wars, Kotal Khan in Mortal Kombat, Aquaman in various DC animated films and video games, and of course; Samurai Jack 👌🏼
Nah he's the delivery guy
People like it for the cool vibe, the storytelling and structure, the directing and dialogue, not necessarily the content of the narrative
True!
You just described exactly everything I dislike about this film. LOL
I think reading these 3 comments is exactly what Tarantino wanted out of this movie
Dialogues and humor.
@@JCG52577 you must love marvel
My number 1 movie for 30 years now. Get's better every time you watch it
Thanks for your honesty, I'm super susupicious of reactors who magically love everything they watch.
True but at the same time in the beginning of the video she says she's never seen a Tarantino movie and doesn't know much about him, but when Butch grabbed the sword in the pawn shop she said "oh it's turning into Kill Bill" That being said she is right it's not for everyone
Kamilla, you may not have liked the movie all that much, but I did notice throughout your reaction video that it kept your attention, which is a win in itself. You may find that the movie grows on you as you get older with repeated viewings. It did for me, for sure.
I can fully agree with that. I was like 18 or 19 when I watched this movie for the first time and I asked myself "TF did I watch?" The second time I watched it, I was around 28 or 29 and I enjoyed it very much. For me, Pulp Fiction is still the best Tarantino movie so far. :)
True
genius level writing and directing of this move Mr. Quentin Tarantino is a lengend and his films are instantly recognizable i love all his work.
A masterpiece in filmmaking. True Romance and Jackie Brown are also highly recommended if you enjoy Tarantino's style
Jackie Brown is my favorite Tarantino. It’s the least “him” of his work.
Jackie Brown is also my favorite. 👍
True Romance is a must watch, and was iconic in so many actor’s careers. Can you spot Gary Oldman?
YES! True Romance, and Jackie Brown! Both are soo good!
Nobody ever reacts to true romance. They have no clue.
Nominated for 7 Oscars including Best Picture but won for Best Original Screenplay
"Does he know how to dance?" (laughs in Saturday Night Fever)
Your face during the gold watch story -- hehehe
This was a great reaction video. I hope you enjoy Tarantino's other movies. (Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained will be great reaction videos from you, as will Kill Bill)
I agree, I especially think Inglorious Basterds would be more up her alley
Fun little fact:
One of the side-effects of using heroin is severe constipation, which is why Vincent needs to use the bathroom so often 🤣
No shit ? :-)
You are shittin me, are you?
Also Mia ODed on heroin because Vincent's dealer didn't have the usual containers heroin is sold in which made Mia think it is cocaine. This is also something most people don't know obviously.
“John Travolta” is synonymous with the phrase “dancing” as was “ Fred Astaire” to an earlier generation.
Disturbing yes, but you gotta say memorable. The time-flicking was especially ingenious, the narrative is tightly controlled, the characters are larger than life, the quotes are quotable, the dark humour is spot-on and the performances are first-rate, especially Jackson's, Keitel's and Thurman's. Not for everyone, you're right. 'Can John Travolta dance?' Now I'M speechless.
Pulp Fiction is unbelievably overrated
ClassicAdden Come on, man (or girl). It’s an expression. Nobody meant that Camilla was literally required to say anything. It’s just another way of saying “I hope you agree.”
@@Gnossiene369 Are you saying my experience is not my experience? Wtf? I gotta say it was memorable imo, whatever else it was. Sorry, but people have to be free to express their opinions, do they not?
"I'm stressing for his sake" when I heard that I thought "Honey, you've got a big storm coming". It is true it's not for everyone. Superficially, it's very violent, has lots of drug use and offensive language, and most of the characters are terrible people and criminals. Yet, it has a moral layer to it. Two of the characters who come out of this alive and well are Butch and Jules. Butch redeems himself by saving Marcellus and Jules renounces his criminal life and retires. Meanwhile, Vincent and Marcellus, two unrepentant criminals, don't do so well. I think this moral layer is intentional and important because Jules' line at the end "I'm trying real hard to be the shepherd" is given a key position in the movie(the end) and we get a tight closeup on him when he delivers it. I think that was Tarantino's way of telling the audience THIS is what the movie was about.
I love how unprepared you were for this.
At 5:12 when she said "True" I busted out laughing 😂
9:35 ;)
This just might be one of the best films ever made...
..strike "just might be" for "is" 😉
your face at the robbery scene in the beginning is just priceless. thank you for that =D
It absolutely is a masterpiece. Congratulations on not revealingly you didn't like it until the end because it made me watch your entire reaction
When Jules saw a miracle, he chose to quit the criminal life. Vincent brushed off the miracle and did not quit. Plus he straight-up disrespected Butch the first time he met him and made an enemy for no reason. Vincent got himself killed because he lacked respect and didn’t take the chance he was given to leave the criminal life.
Also Vincent always being on toilet is a result of his heroin use, so in the end heeoin ended up getting him killed, just not in the way you would expect
I totally agree. Have always felt this film was about showing that most of the time even seedy characters (sinners) can have redeeming moments of epiphany. Which can lead to a new outlook on life. But that some fail to recognize their sins and thus suffer the consequences. If you look at it closely, most of the characters end up forgiving others… except for Vincent.
If I was in Vincent’s position I would have taken my gun to the bathroom. I also would have waited for Marcellus to return to the apartment before going, if I could hold it that long. I mean he’s waiting for Butch, so how could it not occur to him that Butch might show up?
Butch got him back right away by keying his car.
@@leonardshevlin7260 I’ve heard that theory, but if Vincent had his car with him by that time, I think he would’ve changed his clothes.
John Travolta got famous for his footwork. So I’d say yes, he can dance very well.
If i had 3 wishes, one of them would probably be forget all about pulp fiction so i could watch while high again, like the first time. Top 1 movie ever.
I just want to say a huge thank you for being honest. I would much rather see somebody not enjoy a film as much as others and be sincere about it then somebody who puts on a fake smile and says they loved it. It's so painfully obvious they are bullshiting. Sub. Loved the reaction. Always stay true 👍
💯
And I get to save a half an hour now by not watching this reaction so thanks to Rob Booth
@@justindenney-hall5875 I love "Popcorn in Bed"! One of my favorite react channels!
@@justindenney-hall5875 The buzz kill would have been watching the reaction, that's why I check the comments real quick first as a sort of disclaimer.
@@justindenney-hall5875 or misinformation lol
@ 15:19 ... my heart stopped. It is like saying, "Can Michael Jordan dunk the ball?"
This is probably my favorite movie ever. The first time I watched it I was mesmerized by how every scene surprised me and how every scene did it by making up something much better than everything I imagined, funnier, more exciting. Every minute, a new twist. And everything is connected.
Upon rewatching, the movie is full of little details. For example, the girl was talking about bellies because she was pregnant, or how Vincent was always in the toilet every time something happened (three times in a row! XD)
Tarantino's movies have amazing dialogue, great suspense, fun, and violence. And feet. And I love all of them ^^
my first time watching this, i thought it was a huge waste of time and money. I had to watch it again a few years later before I appreciated it.
@@pleutron this is one of the most overrated movies ever
@@nsasupporter7557 i can respect that opinion. There are other movies that "majority" seem to like that I feel are very overrated also... like The Big Lebowski.
@@pleutron I haven’t seen Big Lebowski, but yes I can say it’s probably overrated too. One of the worst movies I’ve seen was the Hateful 8 by Tarantino, I wanted to kill myself when watching it
That’s just like your opinion, man
Camilla the BMF wallet that was Samuel Jackson's in the movie was actually Quentin Tarantino's wallet he used in real life
"I think this is a comedy."
According to Tarantino, all his movies are comedies.
Officially they are not but his movies are funnier than any comedy
I looked it up because I was curious. $1 in 1994 is about equivalent to $2 today. So, when Mia orders a $5 milkshake and Vincent is shocked, it's the equivalent to a $10 milkshake today. I would also be dubious that a plain milkshake could possible be worth $10.
Oof. That seems so fast for inflation to have messed that much with my wallet!
I saw $8 popcorn and $7 drinks at a movie theater last week where tickets are $15 each. I couldn't believe my eyes!!
27:04 Kill Bill is a Tarrantino movie as well. The pilot Mia was in is a representation of Kill Bill, five women each with a speciality.
How interesting !! Might be s new reaction then 👀
Haven’t followed u enough to get your ethnicity but you let me know. As a fellow Dominican, respect girl. Nice to see other islanders enjoying American film.
This movie came out in the mid 90's and it was the first time people watch something like that in the big screen! So it was iconic.
Of course over the years we've seen a lot of other movies but Pulp fiction is still a classic.
That Fox Force Five part describes the characters in a future Tarantino movie, Kill Bill 1 and 2.
Centane left with her jaw open after the opening sequence - hah! Definitely what Tarantino hoped.
The reason this movie is so popular is that it subtlety blends so many classic film genres and tropes but in a modernized setting. I find many people have a hard time watching classic films because the pacing and structure is extremely different from modern films made in the 80s and afterwards, or simply don’t understand why they’re so highly regarded, and Tarantino stokes an appreciation for them in his audience.
1. Vincent Vega’s story is classic film noir: there are bad characters, and then there are worse characters. Literally no one in his story is a good, noble character.
2. Jules’ story is a classic Kung Fu story: he becomes disillusioned with his current life and has a spiritual awakening that leads to a pursuit of enlightenment.
3. Butch’s story is a classic Samurai story - that’s why the samurai sword is so prominent. He’s a reluctant hero who redeems himself. The story about the watch foreshadows his story - bonding with someone who has shared a horrific situation, and having something stuck up their butt.
4. Pumpkin and Honeybunny are like Bonnie and Clyde, the classic gangster film trope of robbers get themselves in way over their head.
From the first scene to the second to last scene, you kept saying, "What am I watching?" Or, "it can't be worse than this." I was saying to myself, just wait, Camilla. A comedy? I lost it when you said that.
It's a movie that grows on you. You'll think about it over the coming weeks from time to time and likely be more impressed with it
I have one of those BMF wallets. One of my all time favs. If you think back you'll realize that the storyline actually ends when Butch and girlfriend ride off on Zed's motorcycle, er, chopper.
Y'all be safe
I have a BMF wallet too
“I think this is a comedy…”
Yes… a dark comedy.
'That happened.' Best. Review. Ever.
This is one of those movies that just gets better each time you watch it. First time I saw it I really didn't appreciate it much, but after 3 or 4 views I realized what a masterpiece it is (the dialogue and how the story lines come together are just genius writing). I can still watch it today I find new small details that makes me chuckle.
I saw it in theater and loved it. I still watch it on DVD. I agree, you find new things to appreciate every time you watch it.👍 One of my all time favorites for sure.
It's also important to appreciate what this movie meant in 1994. It brought John Travolta back into the spotlight and very few people saw any movie like this before.
"Garcon means 'boy'." was actually glorious improv😂
😀 The joy on your face during the dance scene was the best 😀
Enjoy yourself in Espana. I lived there for over a year, and I loved it. The food is great and I fell in love with la gente!
It's so fun watching, and hear when that norwegian comes through and you're doing a real norweglish accent xD
This is _such_ an amazing flick!
Man.. the '90s were so lit 😭
ok kid.
@@orvoloco8261 Shit.. I wish I was a kid. No cap ☹️
yeah '90s and first part of the '00s was probably the best time for movies and music imo.
"Never watched a Tarantino before"
Then "hey this looks like Kill Bill" lol
24:09 Pretty much everyone's reaction when he puts the Pop Tarts in LOL
When Mia describes "Fox Force Five". It becomes 2 of Tarantino's movies. KILL Bill Vol 1 and 2. You should def watch sometime.
She really didn't like the movie, but respect for being honest about saying not really liking it. It was still entertaining watching you react to some of memorable scenes in this movie.
"What am I watching?!?" Now THAT is the typical response to this movie! 😝
"I think it's a comedy". There's always some humor in Tarantino movies but you going in thinking that's what it is makes this 10x more entertaining
i love your reaction style. we are just here to see you enjoy the film. the vast majority of communication between humans is non verbal. never change
Fun fact: the drug dealer actor played the original Marty McFly in Back to the Future. In fact, they filmed almost all Marty's scenes with that actor, Eric Stoltz, but then had to reshoot the whole thing because the director felt that Stoltz didn't have enough comedic timing and was coming off too serious.
The conversations in this film are on another level, Tarantino does an excellent job on showing how people talk to each other when everyone has a coolness skill of 10 outta 10.
Edit: What a soundtrack too, grade A
Them dancing with no music is one of the funniest things
Vincent went on to die by machine gun, Jules became a drifter and musician before taking the name Rufus to avoid being found by Mr. Wallace's goons. When a group of assassins entered the wedding rehearsal he was playing piano at, he didn't even flinch. He merely assumed they were there for him at last.
Probably your best reaction thus far.
John Travolta the actor would dance circles around his character Vincent Vega. "Grease" and "Saturday Night Fever" tells the tale.
This my favorite movie of all time!
9:36 I wasn't expecting that level of honesty! haha
Vincent was actually three times in the bathroom when something bad happened 😆
You have to remember that the title is Pulp Fiction. The old pulp fiction books had heavy-handed plots, rough characters and gritty action. For most readers, they were a window into another world. But they were typically novelettes, so it was a medium that allowed the author to insert dialogue and directly speak to the reader to explain what might have been less than familiar. And above all, it was intended to be rather shocking, very lurid. So the film, not being able to see easily explain, includes many references that a lot of people might not know. Usually nothing to do with the times but with the milieu.
Drugs. She assumed cocaine, but it was the heroin he bought. And trying to "snort" it sent it straight into her blood stream in what was a very large dose and nearly killed her.
The adrenaline injection into her heart is not very credible. A heroin dealer who wanted to keep something around in case of overdoes on heroin, an opiate, would have done better to keep naloxone, Narcan, which would have simply been injected into any vein and would have instantly reversed the heroin. Not nearly so dramatic, though. And penetrating her sternum was hardly necessary. A long cardiac needle can be easily passed over the top of a rib, drawing back the plunger until you strike blood, telling you it's in the heart.
The "gimp" was a person kept for sexual purposes. It's bondage play. The guy in the gimp suit was likely more or less voluntarily playing. A real thing. Once in searching a house, I came upon a "gimp box", a wooden box in which the gimp was kept. He was apparently off that day, as the box was empty.
A remarkable variety of things can be covertly carried in the rectum. Criminal and concentration camp prisoners hoped to get a "plan", a metal two-part rounded end container that could hold some money or papers. Quite a chore, since it had to be recovered and replaced with each bowel movement. And in the roughest of situations, some prisoners aware that another had something of high value, might go for the plan with a knife. Carrying the watch without the aid of some more smooth container would indeed have been a PITA.
OMG you broke me when you asked if John Travolta could dance 😂!
gotta say, seeing a young, innocent lady going through the gimp scene alone was more traumatizing than watching it myself when I was a kid, lol
I was working as a paramedic in Brooklyn in '94. When he said "Coke is dead. Heroin's coming back in a big way," he wasn't fucking kidding. That was exactly true. We began seeing less of crack, and more of heroin. I was giving enough Narcan to fill a 55-gallon drum.
You can only imagine what happened in the cinema when "Misirlou" started blasting through the speakers!
Thanks for reacting to this. Your reaction was hilarious, double thumbs up. lol.
One of the best movies ever made
15:18 "Does he know how to dance?"
You need to watch Saturday Night Fever. He's a dance icon. RUclips "saturday night fever dance scene john travolta"
I just want to put out there that that bathroom, drunk, talking to yourself in thing is very real haha.
one of the greatest movies of all time without a doubt
Pro tip...his first show was Welcome Back Kotter, very funny TV show! And he danced. Then in proly all his movies until the 2000s, he had a dance part, and killed it in Saturday Night Fever!
I can't relate to anyone who can't appreciate Pulp Fiction, but I guess the honesty is still much better than reactors pretending to get excited and enjoy any garbage show or movie they react to.
Maybe once you get over the initial shock, you can appreciate this masterpiece more.
Centane, thank's so much for reacting to a movie from one of my favorite directors. Also I'll never forget you because you loved Alien and Aliens so much. Alien is my favorite movie of all time. Your exact words were: "I'm falling in love with the Alien franchise. I've been thinking about it since I watched it." Have a great day, and I appreciate ( love ) you and your videos! :)
I just love the sound of your voice and your videos are so fun to watch I have probably seen this movie 20 times but this time was by far the funnest time I had watching this movie
* ass clock scene *
"What am I watching?"
Girl, you better prepare yourself
Every time, every single time. All Marvin had to do was have an opinion and I wouldn't laugh at him having his head blasted off. One of Tarantino's pure comedy gold moments.
9:33 - Your reaction was somehow hilarious to me. 😂
15:20 "Does he know how to dance?"
Yes, yes he does...
Very good reaction, and not everyone has to like every film ever made. One thing though, you can now say you've seen Pulp Fiction.
7:09 The prevailing theory is that the briefcase is Marcellus Wallace's soul and that he sold it to the Devil in exchange for his prominence and success as a gangster.
11:58 This was also a mention for the Tarantino films "Kill Bill: Vols 1 & 2". If you follow the description Mia (Uma) gives in "Pulp Fiction," the five girls in Fox Force Five match up perfectly with the five women in Kill Bill Vol 1.: Blonde (Daryl Hanna), Japanese (Lucy Liu), French (Julie Dreyfus), African American (Vivica A. Fox) and knives (Uma Thurman).
Also, there was a theory that the sword Butch finds in the pawn shop is the one Budd pawned….but that theory has been disproven.
Also,Jules went on to become a musician & played piano at a wedding rehearsal where all the guests were assassinated.
15:34 "Does he even know how to dance?"
You must watch John Travolta dance in Saturday Night fever (1978) - a classic.
Oh - and Grease. (1979)
It’s definitely not a family film. Every time I see this movie, I come away in a cloud of contradictions, there’s something of a very dark underworld genius in Tarantino.
great editing... thanks for the reaction.. always fun
27:04 "Oh, it's turning into Kill Bill." Wait, I thought you said you hadn't watched any Tarentino films before. Kill Bill vol. 1 & 2 are both his! (If you've only heard of them and haven't actually seen them before, I would actually recommend them -- but only if you can stand over-the-top violence.)
@Big Dream ---- Nice catch.
“Sure hope it’s a comedy because I’ve been watching pretty dark stuff lately…”
Whooooops…
This movie it's so good, and i laughed a lot with your reactions! LOL priceless, thanks for the video! :)
Death Proof, Kill bill, from dusk till dawn, reservoir dogs = Tarantino's best hits
Another pro tip... Vince Vega is the brother of Vic Vega, in Reservoir Dogs!
That wasn't booger sugar Mia OD'd on. It was Vincent's stuff. She got it out of his coat pocket and thought it was booger sugar.
My brother and I saw this as an Oscar-nominee double feature with Shawshank Redemption. Our butts were really tired from sitting through Shawshank Redemption, and we almost walked out of Pulp Fiction near the beginning... but we both ended up being REALLY glad that we stayed. There are just so many good parts to this movie... the watch story... the Lava soap comment... sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'll never know. It takes a while for your brain to sort through everything, but it is a classic for sure!
This was a bit nostalgic for me watching your reaction because I used to take this VHS cassette to each of my friends houses just to watch their reactions. 😊🙏
"If this is a comedy, than it's perfect." I'm so sorry.
12:26 - "I would watch that"
Tarantino actually did it, it's called "Kill Bill".
Believe me, everyone was surprised about the weird things that happened in this movie when we saw it for the first time. We like it for the acting (Samuel L Jackson should have won the academy award for this movie), the dialogue, the amazing pacing and different chronological structure (non linear story elements), and those brilliant uninterrupted long takes.
In spite of the horrific events and strange situations, there is also a lot of comedy as well. I said previously that this is one of those movies that get better each time you watch it, and those are the reasons why.
I also understand if it doesn’t appeal to you (and I agree that a lot flew over your head because of where this takes place and the fact that it takes inspiration from the lurid, trashy pulp novels from the past that you may not be familiar with). I’m not into violent movies at all, but once I saw this it became one of my all time favorites.
