Freddie was directing the crowd from heaven. To totally understand that statement watch Queen "Love of My Life" in Rio '85. The crowd (350,000) sings the entire 1st verse. Freddie didn't sing a note, just directed them like a choir conductor. This is one of the most epic songs ever written & their record label didn't want to release it! 😱 There's between 55,000 & 60,000 ppl in the crowd & the majority hadn't even been born when it was released. Did you notice they sang all the guitar riffs as well?

Couple documentaries you might want to check out either as a reaction or just for yourself - Days of Our Lives (the total doc is about 2 hrs & there are many versions floating around so make sure you get the longest) and one on the making of Bo Rhap with Brian (& maybe Roger). Brian talks about how they did the overdubs (remember this is 1974 tech) and how at one point the tape was so wore they could see through it and had to mix it down to a new tape so they could put some more overdubs on it. 😁 After you're a little further along in your Queen journey you might want to watch the documentary "The Show Must Go On. It's about what happened to the band after Freddie died. It's produced by Queen's current manager so is very accurate.
The thing I find most amazing is Green Day was getting ready to go onstage when the song started and the crowd started singing, Green Day waited and filmed it out of respect to Freddie. RIP.

Freddy died when I was 10, but I grew to be a hardcore fan. This video makes me tear up every time. Freddy would be so proud of the way it bought everyone together. Us brits have so much love for him, even now & it just proves how much of a legend he is, that he could inspire a whole crowd to sing his song at another bands concert, without him even being there. Iconic.

I know that some of his lyrics seem dark, but it’s really about Freddie coming out as gay to the world, his family, and most of all his mother. “Mama, just killed a man”, actually is him telling his mother that the boy/man she raised and loved is gone - “dead”. You can hear the conflict in his words, he knows he has to do it, but it’s scary and he feels like he’s throwing his life away, as change is scary, even when you’re making the right decision for yoursel. He just had to be himself, finally. This has been my absolute favorite song since I was 12 and I used to perform it with hand puppets (Kermit & Miss Piggy) for my little 3 year old brother. He’d laugh and laugh as Piggy’s hair flew about. This video is a testament to how much this song means to people. YOU feel how ever you want to feel about this song, and don’t let anyone tell you you’re wrong. Freddie would be the first to defend you. ❤ Keep up the great reactions 😊
