Had to do exactly this to convert a gravity shower through wall to pumped exposed rail. New control box was mounted to a LAP stainless steel 2 gang cover plate. Looks like a deliberate design feature :smug:

Had the same idea on a similar job but we needed a circular chrome plate…300mm diameter! Worked just the same as yours did. Nice!👊🏼👍🏼
I agree a round backing plate would have been better.
good rescue, one question why did you put the control knob in the wet zone, aren't you better off putting in a location where you won't get that initial splash of cold when you reach in to the controller. I've installed a couple of these are put the controller opposite end of the 'wet zone'

I don't know if you mentioned it, but did you put the control wire in a duct?!!! 🤣 Seriously, good on you for getting the bits checked! Blokes are terrible with this sort of thing. Glad all is sorted!!

Love the video, Great, save with the wall plate! One thing I’d like to know though, why is it plumbers always fit the controls to the far side of the bath or cubicle, so you always get a wet arm when you switch it on? The cleaners at Premier Inn Love it, They always position the shower nozzle so you get it straight in your face 😢

Good advice on the balls! Although my doctor tried to treat it with antibiotics…. Needless to say I was under the knife 4 weeks later and some heavy duty chemo. I have been clear for 6 years

I had one of those fitted four months ago ( in the attic ) it makes a right racket, then you switch the lights on and the fan comes on, you can't hear yourself think. Plumber says " that's how it is " with a shrug of his shoulders.
Is the metal plate stainless?

Just out of curiosity, I saw you sealing the 4 screw holes behind the new faceplate but did you seal the back of the faceplate to stop any water getting in 🤔

Would it not have been easier to just replace the 2 tiles that had screw holes drilled in them?
Not in this case - much much harder to do that.

Cool and all but shouldn't he do something about sharp edges and corners of the plate he bought? And he put silicone around the hole in the wall... ok, but he didn't put anything around the edges? So original part has gasket (100%) of some sort so blob of silicone around the hole is not even really necessary but now there is nothing around the edges so there will be water constantly behind that plate. Humid, warm, dark place...
