Awesome, step by step tutorial! Thank you! This video plus a couple of the others helped me rebuild our washer for another (hopefully) 10-12 years. Plus I got a new spanner wrench out of the deal. Sweet!
What kind of grease(part # )is required to use on the basket drive shaft and sleeve bearings? And what grease is used to lubricate upper and lower seals ?
I have an old whirlpool washer that wouldn’t spin, it never had a lid lock, but it does stop agitating or spinning if I open the lid. The agitator would spin but not the basket. I replaced the clutch assembly 285785. Now it pumps, but nothing spins. What do I need to do to make it spin? Thank you. I don’t know if I’ll get an answer since this video is about 12 years old.
Are the bearings located in the basket drive as stated in your other video regarding the basket drive and bearings? I understand the bearings are included with a new tub spinner support base? So my second question is would the basket drive then come with the new base part # 80184 replaces part # 285203?

Hi Matt, hoping to fix this machine before the wife makes me buy a new one. Agitator works so I think that rules out coupler and transmission. I'm unable to physically move the basket by hand without a lot of force. Does this sound like a basket drive/clutch symptom? It almost seems like I should add lubricant but I don't see anything like that online. I'll happily order replacement parts from you if you can help diagnose. Thanks for the video
Leif Johnson Hello first you want to make sure there is not anything between the tubs that would jam it or make it hard to turn, clothes, socks etc. Then I would check out the brakes to be sure they are not dragging. Way more info than I can add here, so here is a link to our repair forum where they talk about the brakes:forum.appliancepartspros.com/washer-repair/3265-replacing-direct-drive-washer-brake-shoes.html
hi, thanks very much for the reply. I have completely disassembled the washer and thoroughly cleaned between the basket and basin. the clutch is certainly bad, but wouldnt i be able to spin the basket by hand if it were just a worn clutch. that's the sympton i'm most worried about. if i can't fix that, the washer's toast
would not run the spin cycle, agitator works, i held open the lid and depressed teh trigger switch and watched a whole cycle. When it went into spin mode, it made a new sound as if something should be happening but basket did not move. at that point i could still hand crank it to get it going but it would not get to speed. now after dis/re-assembling it, i can barely turn the basket by hand at all.
Leif Johnson Ok maybe I miss understood you, I thought the tub just was not spinning so I said to look for something jamming it. You said the clutch was bad so I assume you are going to change that. It could be that the bad clutch is the only thing you have. If the clutch is bad and slipping you may be able to help the tub start spinning by hand but it does not free spin. When you try and turn the tub you are trying to turn the tranny and everything by turning the tub, it will not be easy. It could always be something in the tranny but the clutch was the obvious thing you saw. The other quick and easy thing to check is the lid switch it is a safety switch that does not let the washer spin if the lid is open. You can test it for continuity, it should not have continuity when the lid is open and should have it when the lid is closed.
I have a Whirlpool model LST7233DQ0 that was leaking (tub seal). Got the inner tub out, but the drive block does not want to come out bottom of tub. The plastic part at the bottom of the tub has ragged pieces going inside the tub keeping the drive block from coming all the way out. I have never come across this. What gives?
My PAV2300AWW series 12 machine cabinet is different. Only the front of the cabinet comes off, sides and back are all one piece of sheet metal attached to the bottom by 9 screws. I need to change my basket drive, I also found there is no SPANNER NUT in the inner basket. Instead there appears to be 4 X about 1&1/4 inch bolts holding the inner basket to something below it. I can find no information to make the repairs I need to make and at the point I am at presently I am not sure the parts will fit the machine, nothing else seems to be right about my PAV2300AWW series 12 washing machine.

At about the 7:09 time frame there are three plastic cups that form a triangle around the area you are working. In these there are pins that have holes in the side near the tip. What are these pins purposes and are they attached to anything? Are there cotter pins that are placed through these holes? I have tried to find diagrams that explain these but so far are nothing. Could you please help?
These are shipping pins. Once released they do not do anything and are supposed to stay in the little cups. If the cup broke and they fell on the ground, then you can just get rid of them.
You can watch this one on how to change the tub cover seal. Once you get the tub cover off you should be able to lift the balance ring off the inner tub. Washer Outer Tub Ring Seal (part #3976308) - How To Replace

What happens when you put the clutch band upside down and run it? What are the symptoms besides me messing up..

Thank you! Also, do all older top load washing machines use the same BALANCE RING?
There are a few different ones. It is best to go to our site and enter your model number to search for it.
Do you have a video that shows how to replace this part? I have looked on your channel and did not find one. Thank you!
