My description of the new Hellboy is that he’s a bit undercooked. Harbour’s Hellboy was a bit overcooked, but Perlman’s was done just right. I think Kesy’s Hellboy will work just fine, but probably not leave fans as satisfied as Perlman’s look did.

I am so exited for this movie I do think he looks a little weird but I’m still gonna give it the benefit of the doubt cause I’m a huge hellboy fan both movies and comics and the crooked man is my favorite hellboy comic. So I’m exited for this movie.

I like the direction the trailer is going in, but if it's an accurate representation of the film, we're still not there yet as far as Hellboy in film goes. Horror is the right tone, as Hellboy is a horror comic with a Jack Kirby-like character in the Carnacki role. But the tone was more The Conjuring or Insidious than the subdued folk tale/urban legend/religious-mythological variety of horror the comics have. To me, the ideal Hellboy movie would have the tone of something more like Midsommar, The VVitch or The Lighthouse. Visually, and in terms of the how the character is treated by others, I'd also like for Hellboy to be more of a monster. In the comics, it works for Hellboy to just show up and be treated like a normal, everyday person. That works in the sillier comedy vibe of the previous films as well. But in live action it takes me out of the story. Hellboy should still be an everyman in terms of his characterization, but he should look like an actual demon, move in a different way, maybe even have no pupils and glowing orange eyes like in the comics. And while he is a known public figure, when he's around, people should be nervous, knowing that this isn't a human being and that if he ever turned against them, they wouldn't stand a chance. Hellboy himself would ignore this and try to get on with the job, try to just act like another human, but there should be a constant tension there. Then I can take Hellboy seriously in an actual horror movie, which is what a Hellboy film should be. For these reasons, if the budget goes towards anything, it should be making Hellboy look right, which he just doesn't in this trailer.

@@TheCaptain610 I totally see where you're coming from. I think that's what makes Hellboy such a hard character to adapt. He's both the bringer of the apocalypse and also just your average blue collar worker. To me it's all going to come down to smaller character-to-character interactions. Comic Hellboy lives and dies on his cavalier "aw crap" attitude, and you can't make that with makeup or eye color.
I'd love to see the tone of something along the lines of The Green Knight, but I have a hard time thinking something that niche would be greenlit.
