This is probably my favorite build from you, Odin. The details in the carvings is absolutely amazing and having the dexterity to grab that cigar at the end is freaking awesome! I made something like this a ways back when I was an engineering major in college. It was a fun tool I'd use to grab stuff whilst on the couch procrastinating on projects and stuff.

They actually based part of the infinity gauntlet's design off of hellboy's fist, since when hellboy was created, they brought it to DC comics who refused the idea because of the whole "hell" concept, but Dark Horse Comics saw the potential and took the character under its own domain, ever since the popularity has grown, marvel has wanted to take visual concepts from the character while having enough visual differences to deny that they borrowed the design concept.

A elastic band like you can get at the sewing department down the back of the finger will help with opening. Attach to the tip and base of the finger. How tight you pull the elastic when attaching will determine the tension. Eventually the tubing will crease and they wont open as well anymore.

I wanted something soft that would curl. I didn't want to use just EVA because I would have to notch the fingers so they could curl. I did think about making the backs of the fingers from 5mm craft EVA foam, and then Poly for the joints and the fronts. But I opted for simple. Whats funny is in the movie they look like they could be Poly Foam, but they are probably cast latex foam. I love when the fingers bend all wonky when he grabs the 3rd rail in the subway.
I just bought 6 pieces of that foam twenty minutes ago... but to create a VR play area to stand on. Love Hellboy, love this build and I think it's my favourite one so far. Awesome job!
I’m trying to wrap my head around taking the comic version look from sks props and combining it with your puppet mechanism to make a articulate puppet of the comic version of the right hand of doom.

Hey Odin, great DIY video! I just wanted to make a suggestion on getting the fingers to flex back into place: using rubber bands. I plan to do this by making the piece of coat hanger at the tips of the fingers connect around the back, and then attaching the band to it. Next, I'll add a 1 inch segment of a drinking straw to each finger digit to run the band through keep it in place as well as allow it to stretch and contract freely. I'll then attach the other end of the band at the top of the wrist. Then it'll be simply making a channel into the foam on the inside of the top of the hand so it doesn't interfere with the mechanism. If I'm successful I'll link ya the video. Thanks again for this great instructional!
