    Sock Plush Sewing Techniques: tinyurl.com/psd...
I discovered this tutorial from a Taiwanese crafting channel here • 羊毛氈立體小玩偶Felt Crafts Do... . I was amazed at how adorable and easy it was to make these professional-looking plushies! The original video is in Chinese, so I've translated everything into English and added some extra tips I encountered along the way.
There is very little sewing required compared to other plushie tutorials. With practise, you can easily make one bunny within an hour and I think these will sell very well at craft fairs. They'd also make fantastic gifts for birthdays or baby showers. I simply bought a cheap pack of socks from H&M and it's enough to make 10-12 bunnies! Obviously, you can easily adapt the method to make bears, pandas, koalas or other animals.
    Difficulty: EASY*
    In this video I'm wearing:

I'm pretty active on Instagram so please check out my account @maqaroon for food, sparkliness and kawaii. If you try out any of my tutorials then I'd also love to see the results, simply tag with #maqaroon!

    * This is easy compared to other plushie tutorials but you may need to practise a few times to get it perfect. On my first attempt, I forgot to reverse the sock so I ended up with an inside-out bunny. HURRDURR beginner's mistake. I've listed a few other issues that I came across so you know what to watch out for:
    1) Face shape looks wrong after stuffing
This is usually caused by drawing the ears too far away from the heel of the sock. When stuffed, the heel area needs to form the chin of the bunny. If the ears are too high up then the head loses its kawaii proportions. Another tip is to use a sock that is all one colour, or has minimal contrasting patterns. If a sock has really obvious heel and toe patches then the lines can also distort the face shape.
    2) Body shape doesn't look right
The stuffing technique is key to getting the best results. I realised I had to use a lot more wool than I imagined...you'd be amazed at how much can fit inside one sock! Also, each part (ears, head, body) needs to be stuffed in one go. If you try to add more wool afterwards then it will only end up lumpy.
    3) Eyes are lopsided or too close together
It's important to sew both eyes at the same time so they stay even. This also creates a small indentation which looks quite cute. If the toy might be given to babies or small children, it's particularly important that the eyes are attached very firmly. And because the eyes get pulled together a bit, you should draw them 1-2 cm further apart when marking out the positions with pen.
    4) Sock shape is difficult to draw on
Most socks are sold flattened lengthwise across the heel. For this tutorial, you need it flattened in the other direction. I pressed the socks under some heavy books for a few days so it was easier to draw and sew on.

@Lynnee Zee (sorry for some reason can't reply directly to your comment!) I got the beads from a normal craft shop. They should be easy to find in any section that sells sewing or jewellery supplies. Wooden ones are a bit cheaper than plastic, but either one will work.

I bought the stuffing from a fabric/craft shop. However cotton wool works just as well which you can get from almost any pharmacy or drugstore.

Sorry to hear that, unfortunately getting pricked is a risk with any form of sewing. This tutorial is not possible without sewing, but you can always try making a smaller version using polymer or paper clay :).

I tried this out and it looked okay. I was going from memory and my craft store didn't have beads so I ended up using buttons. it had a more rugged look due to that and the fact that the socks I bought didn't: stretch or have a heel. never the less I'm sure with practice I'll get better. thanks for making this tutorial!

    • @eulaties
      @eulaties 9 лет назад +4

Ve Omo i think this might work- cut out a strawberry shape on a sock and repeat on another sock. sew them together and leave an opening to put stuffing in. finish sewing it. thread some green thread for the seeds on a strawberry. i'm not good with sewing and making plushies, but i hope i helped.

Ve Omo edit: you should flip the strawberry shape you cut out, you don't need to cut out another strawberry shape. put stuffing in and close it up. then attach the leaf part and the seeds. not sure how to make the top of the strawberry (the leaves) but maybe you can experiment with it

My bunny looks okay, but its white and probably would look better with some accessories or some pink cheeks! I really loved this video and had fun making this! Phuong Nguyen I'm so happy to hear that!!! I was so impressed with this method when I first tried it out especially because the results looked so professional, like something from a shop ^__^. You'll definitely notice that the more plushies you make, the easier it gets and you will have an endless variety of cute ideas for future gifts or to sell.

Eva Carvajal Hehe thank you!!! Wish you lots of success making this (as a tip, use more stuffing that you may think you need. In most photos that I've seen of people who made these for the first time, many were slightly understuffed. But adding more stuffing makes it easier to get the plump body shape)

I'm making this for a friend as a holiday gift, and it looks alright so far. The sock I used was a bit dirty, but I solved the problem by spraypainting the bunny silver. Now, it's very pretty and festive but the texture isn't the best. I don't regret it though! :D
