    wouldn't the crayfish be able to walk from the smaller pond to the main pond and then burrow through the clay blanket?

    • @captaint.tearex9279
      @captaint.tearex9279 6 месяцев назад +53

      My thoughts exactly. Putting any kind of burrowing animal into the smaller pond sounds like a problem just waiting to happen.

    • @stubby8663
      @stubby8663 6 месяцев назад +10

      Exactly what I was going to ask, that was my first thought when I heard Crayfish. Because I remember at the start of the Main Pond build, him saying they would burrow in the clay causing Leaks. Thank you for bringing it up. Btw Enjoyed the video as always.

    • @knightyper99
      @knightyper99 6 месяцев назад +26

      Yes, crayfish crawfish can walk across land to get to another water source that is near. Birds & animals can carry eggs of fish to other water sources also. I don't know why this new pond isn't just connected to the 5 acre. Having them separate means twice the work?

    • @commissaryarrick9670
      @commissaryarrick9670 6 месяцев назад +20

      I mean technically that could happen naturally anyway . Crawfish are native to this area so they could get in tbe pond regardless of what he does

      @@knightyper99think he wants them separated so he can keep with clear water for maybe even swimming in.

    For the new pond you should really do pretty native US species. Like Coosa Bass, Longear sunfish, Pumpkinseed, Green Sunfish, Black Crappie, Creek or Lake Chubs, Madtom catfish and others. They'd make for a phenomenal Native fishing hole as well as a beautiful North American native water system.

    Species ideas for the new pond:
    Longear Sunfish
    Smallmouth Bass
    Alligator Gar
    Walleye
    Northern Pine or Chain Pickerel
    Yellow Perch
    Sturgeon
    Trout will be super cool to put in the big pond. Obviously trout would die once the weather starts warming in the spring, but they would be really cool and make great bass food.

    It looks like the bayou crossing allows the deer to have less exposure as they exit from the woods and move across the field. Eventually they have to go on top of the pond ridge, but I think they stay "hidden" as long as possible.

    I started watching you a few months ago and love your channel. Building ponds is out of reach for most of us, (and impossible for those of us living in the desert), so this is some serious eye candy.

    Wow, another incredible pond build! Looking forward for the final results! I suggest Koi or sturgeon for the new pond. There are some beautiful varieties like "Sterlet" or the white sturgeon. They will grow fast but you have the option to put them into the big pond if they outgrow their habitat. Also catfish or albino catfish would be a nice eye catcher. They get along well with big sturgeons. Since the pond is not connected with the big pond, catfish could be an option.

    Love your channel and seeing the nature you are stimulating. This may be a recommendation from left field, but since you asked, it might be interesting to see if you can host a musky in that new pond. It would love the fish caves and shelters under the planned lilly pads. It would be a different feel than you've made in the 5acre, but musky and bass thrive in other environments so it might work here. Best of luck in whatever you pursue. Hope that juvenile eagle finds a home on your property.

    Love the videos and keep them coming for us viewers! One suggestion I think if you were to add crawfish to the 30000 gallon pond, they could make their way to the 5 acre pond, which I dont know if thats what you want. Also, is the little pond going to be tied into the larger one?
