I played and beat MoonScars right before Blasphemous 2 dropped.. really enjoyed the game and the combat was so good that it kept me playing til the end..im glad i waited for all the patches to drop before i picked it up..i wish there were more enemy variety & locations had a bit more oomph to them but those are fairly minor to what is a great game.
I agree with you that it is a good game and I found very enjoyable, some of the ideas like melee doing more damage if your gun was hot or overheated gave combat the natural possibility to shoot while closing distances doing damage while insuring that your melee attacks would be as effective as possible if timed right. Very interesting.
I appreciate the discussion of how it's been patched. I played this at launch a bit as I had a humble choice subscription at a time and after a while (maybe an hour or so) I just said to myself "I'm not really having fun". It wasn't anything special in fact it was the lack of anything special, it performed well, etc., but nothing really to immerse me (I'll admit that could be because I didn't play very long, because I wasn't having fun). Good to know it's improved and I might give it a go next time I have humble choice and see if I like it more.
I'm pretty new to MVs and I'm not much of a Souls fan, but from what I've played of this game is fantastic. The gameplay is very addictive and I love how it combines the modern rpg elements with the SNES style 2D graphics. Love gothic horror art style. Sorry I'm late to the party 😂
Just started and im in depths now. Thank god there had been patches. Just played Ds1-3 and im so spent and have no interest try harding. This game has been fantastic so far.
the games balanced fine without the accessories, anyone that thinks otherwise hasn't played it in the updated state. I used the damage reduction one for awhile but took it off because it just felt unnecessary after I was comfortable with the combat. Also, some places are harder to traverse/possibly impossible to reach with that damage reduction accessory on. Something to keep in mind.
I agree. After the updates, I felt the game was pretty fair, making the damage reduction accessory superfluous. And, yeah, that accessory stops you from doing the super dash. Good point.
I played this at launch on xbox gamepass and it was a challenging game but that's what drew me to it in the first place as I love the souls games and Metroidvanias and the mixture of the 2 are always fun for me. While it was challenging I soon got used it and really loved it but it had some bugs that I just couldn't put up with so I had to stop after losing progress twice and being locked out of a side quest due to bugs and planned to return to it when it was fixed but just never have. I'm considering buying to support the devs so I will see what your review is like as I am only 4mins in right now. But yeah it was hard but a good hard.
some of the map updates were absolutely needed though. For one, this games areas all look pretty identical so places are less memorable when you need to return to them. It feels near perfect as this game could be now. At least to me.
I completed this game on launch, and it was also easy for me. Almost all game run was on red moon because of more glands. But maybe my build with damaging dash was imba))) alot easier than blasphemous for me , especially ng+. And i admit some lack of content compared to blasphemous ( feel the lack of developers resources) . But overall i like the game mostly of fluid combat and atmosphere
I personally felt the game was a letdown. Not for its difficulty (in fact i kept the vast majority of the game on Blood Moon mode and adjusted just fine after getting sick of wasting resources on returning to normal) but how repetitive the game was especially after the silhouette Limbo-esque area where new enemies stop appearing and its just endless hall ways of tanky enemies. Also all the areas looked the same (aside from the aforementioned Limbo one) the soundtrack was too one note and probbably most annoying was how overly cryptic the story is. I hate it when every character is a wierdo who only speaks in riddles as if theyre actively trying to confuse the player. Trying way too hard to imitate Dark Souls' storytelling but missing the entire point. Oh and i played it at launch on Xbox One so it was a buggy mess on top of that. Combat was fun though.
Just finished the game and wow, really easy. Once you get the parry down its quite simple. Parry, followed by shockwave is super op. I did enjoy the game overall though.
So your experience is similiar to my experience with Skautfold usurper but yours is probably far more extreme Stats weren’t doing anything notable and apperantky fucked people over Barrier went down quickly and having only 110 When I revisited it I had much higher barrier 240 and able to go through the entire game without upgrades while I was getting two shot in early game when I first tried it In any case this got me interested good video
O.k. game at best, but I found the story poorly explained, the art style too smeared in some cases, and most of the 'variety' in its witcheries and abilities felt... largely unhelpful, or even hindering. It definitely hits the bleakness of Dark Souls, and has some pretty inspired art, designs, and story elements. Worthy of a small recommend for a 7 hour romp through a dark world.
I played this game at launch with Gamepass and put some hours into it, it was hard. I ended up giving up cause it was really becoming "not fun". I did bought the game at the end cause the art style is beautiful. I will return to it once i am done with Blasphemous II
My personal impression of your analasys is that it takes too long relatively to the amount of information it presents. Your jokes were fun, but you've repeated their concept too many times. All in all, although this video wasn't my cup of tea, I do commend you for the effort you've invested in it. Great job!
I really disliked this game. Gave it a 4/10, couldn't finish it. felt like a waste of time, has very little of the good points other Metroidvanias have. It hardly felt like a Metroidvania to begin with. Judging by the Steam reviews this game is way overrated.
I enjoyed Moonscars a ton. The combat was fast, fluid, and oh so satisfying. It definitely deserves a little more recognition.
The Statue Gemstone that you can buy for 8k significantly decreases Moonscars difficulty.

I didn’t play it pre-patches, but it appears updating was the right move
i still think moonscars is heavily underrated. its style and themes are very unique and its story had me hooked.
I'm with ya. It's definitely not perfect (what is?), but I really enjoyed my time with it. I really liked its combat.

Weird story that was hard to follow like most souls like games. This combat was phenomenal.
Loved the counter system and gothic atmosphere.
Nice review, was put off this by the reviews but will check it out now. THanks

Right on! I only played it post-patch, and I had fun with it. I’d definitely say give it another shot when you get a chance.

Love your voiceovers at the start
Compared to Salt and Sanctuary, is it as fun and is the world building as polished?
I loved S & S

It was a tough one but once you get the combat on point your good to go, I beat it in a few days but it was rough ride , good game
played this on xbox game pass and enjoyed it so much picked it up on steam for sale
I bought the disk version on black Friday

Yeah, I heard AN had a rough launch. Thankfully, I didn't experience very many bugs at all. I hope you enjoyed the rest of the video!

For sure. Moonscars is solid. I hope others check it out

Yeah, the story was delivered pretty poorly, and I can’t even remember the music.
I do remember its combat being pretty good 👍
On what system did you play?
I played a digital copy on the Switch, my good sir 🧐
@@MetroidvaniaGuru Just what I wanted to hear. Then the game breaking bug really is gone and I can get the game. Thanks for a good review!
@@johanandersson8646 I appreciate that! And I hope you like Moonscars. I'm actually thinking about replaying it myself lol
as it been patch on switch

A decent game but it was too easy.
None of the bosses was a challenge and due to small number of enemies learning the moves was simple.
I played this game at launch with Gamepass and put some hours into it, it was hard.
I ended up giving up cause it was really becoming "not fun".

Hey, thanks! I appreciate the feedback. Feel free to share what you would want to see vs what I offered so I can improve 😊
Show varied footage-it will help you a lot with subs. Im gonna get this game cause of your video though.
'Too hard' usually means reviewer isnt a real gamer
