Today I'm showing a few simple delay tricks that can help make your synths sound a little more exciting and make a mix bounce and move a little more! I'm demonstrating the two techniques I used in Miavono's new single "Right Here".
These delay tricks are designed to add or enhance the Rhythm of a sound. Often delays are used to add space and width.
Both of these techniques work with MIDI and Audio :)
In this case, two delay techniques are applied to the main synth.
The first is a 1/8th note delay (on fruity delay 3 that is 2/16 =1/8) which stresses the rhythm and bounce of the synth. It helps the listener move with the track and feel the timing more easily, as if a drummer is keeping time with a hi hat.
The second is a "spot delay" technique where you use automation to pick where the delay is active. This changes the feel of the transition dramatically and I felt it was what was needed in this case. Even if it's not for a transition, automating delays is something I do often, usually when delays are cluttered on leads it can be good to delay on the last few notes but It really depends what the delay is trying to do in the track. Don't be afraid of automation, it's one of your best friends and it's there to help you make awesome music :)
When adjusting the parameters, it's good to do it in the context of a whole mix.

Mike i’ve just stumbled across your channel and I’ve found it really helpful. I’ve just started learning FL in the last week and it’s very overwhelming trying to learn everything about the software. Your videos are great and maybe they are not as useful to experienced producers but for someone just starting out, just getting guidance on little things is incredibly helpful so thank you. also how the hell do you have less than 100k subs
fuck yea finally something i can mix
I like to automate the mute of the delay. If you unmute the effect it won't work on the sound that came before it was unmuted and if you mute it again the effect cuts its tail
These techniques can add so much movement. Haven't seen many people talk about this yet. I'm glad you did!
I was waiting for a video on delay techniques and it's finally here. I'm really happy that now I know a new technique and all my upcoming stuff will have something new
Agnibh Chakraborty I'm happy to help, I'll also be making delay videos about adding space to a mix too :)
In The Mix Yea sure. I'd really appreciate that
I love your tutorials, they are so thorough. I just got on fl studio after using ableton and cubase. And these are very informative. thank you
This dude is the goat of FL tricks. He always come up with new techniques. Thanks dude.
I like the fact that you try to make every of your track neat. Makes it feel peaceful☺
Tade Solomon Thank you, I do try :)
Michael, you are an absolute star ! thank you for sharing this.
I use a very similar “spot” delay sound in my band as well. I run my guitar through a delay set at quarter notes and then run that into a delay set at dotted eighths. I LOVE how they bounce off of each other and create polyrhythms and overtones. It adds some great movement and bounce and isn’t as predictable as standard echo repeats.
nice tutorial. I learned something new :-)
ONE OF THE BEST TUTORIAL CHANNELS ON FL STUDIO STUFF..... NAIROBI'S WATCHING
the best actually... so detailed
automating the level knob seems a very cool effect, like the song has a little feed back, but in a sweep it can overload the amount for a little riser or something.
or have it on 2 step, then in a break automate it to 1 step for a little break duration.
Mike is the man!
As usual, great tutorials!!! Thank you very much!!!
Best tutorial for FL Studio tricks on internet.
When automating, you could right click on the notch and set the type to 'hold'. It's meant for the envelope shapes you used for the verb+delay send automation.
Thank you so much for your awesome delay tricks tutorial... from India
Love, love your videos. I record a lot of country to pop to rock in my part of the world. I enjoy doing things to songs that add more interest and emotional content to the more conventional way of recording these genres. I am not satisfied until I know that has a little bit more love yet not going beyond the boundaries of intention, and of course, careful not to the point of losing the vision the artist or band may have conceptualized.. However I have learned a lot from viewing your videos over and over again. You my friend, are helping me become a better producer and engineer. I give you my sincere thanks
It's always the little things that can make your tracks unique, great video mate !
Xavier Brito Thank you, it's all in the little details sometimes :)
Mad trickz man, thank you! I used it on snare in a drum & bass track and it gave the raw beat with only the kick and snare a hi hat feel shuffle from the delayed snare. Tweaking the cut-off is great too..
This new technique is dope. Very much useful for electro-pop music. Hoping to see much more videos from you. Thank you 😀
Another AWESOME Video as usual. Keep them coming!
thank you very much brother, very insightfull, please share as much as you can, The world belongs to the givers, and the givers are the only one who are remembered at the end,

I had tried it in one of my songs but can't remember it anymore but thanks for the information.
Thanks this was great!
Dude man loving your channel you been dropping gems everywhere! I have a question, that synth part on the first delay. How did you get the synth to sound like that? It sounds almost double tracked. Is it just delayed slightly passed hass or is it something else? The call and response type delay you have is also very good, I'm just trying to find ways to push sounds out of the middle both tips help but was curious about the synth. Thank you!
Thanks again for a great video

Sounds so awesome@@
I just found this video doing a search on echo delay effects after having discovered the ability to achieve what you call the 8th note delay on the ᥲpp, "Music Speed Changer", with it's, "Echo Effect", plugin.
I've been using it as a sort of harmonic resonance amplifier to boost volume capacity and to add a new level depth and body to every song.
pile of love from india
very cool XD i learned a lot . thank you !!
i cant find any YT video tutorial on how to put delay effects on 3/4 time signature songs. pls make one sending love from the PH
Hey Mike nice video, I was wondering if you can do a video about how to delay a vocal but that the delays stops rigth after the vocal stop singing, because that technique will avoid the track sounding too cloudy, thanks for that, and if you plz let me know if you will do, thanks again man!.
thank you bro.
Bro please make a video on making the baseline for the vocals and drawing the chords for the vocals .

Hey I've been watching you videos for soooooooooo long your videos are wonderful as you but there is stll problem for me about channel routing like where to send? where to attach where does effects goes. I would be ery happy to learn it again from the scratch. I mean no disrespect to you. lov you videos keep up the good work

Great tutorial! Thank you. And great song too. Is it on Napster?
Gino Tarabotto Thank you,it might be on Napster, sometimes it takes a little longer to verify there but if you search "Miavono Right Here" it might come up. It's definitely on RUclips, Spotify and iTunes :)
you can do it directly on the synth.....well if you make the audio on synth---
i want to add some delay at the end of a vocal track just for at least 3 secs, not the complete vocal track. How do I accomplish this?
is there a way i can stop the sound from keep playing when it finish playing a pattern without using automation clip?
I like the song in the tutoroal
Can we still find your original music somewhere?
Is it allowed to upload my Remix on Spotify after the competition?
Hello from Nepal :)
which step (like 1/6 or 1/2) is best for making kicks and snares please reply
If you want a kick with echo on its head 1/4 beat is a good rhythm.
can u tell me Professional recording software for me which is use in studio
3:33 spot delay sounds like Erasure Vince clark synth king from the 80's
Hello sir...... Do i mixing with wave miltetrack or midi miltetrack?
Hemel Ahmed Either is fine, the midi uses more CPU to run through the vsts
By acident . Lucky guy
DeadZpool Music Offical Got to be honest!
Awesome Tutorials i've learned alot Thanks Man
The Electric Guitar is Awesome too , How can i get electric guitar liberary like this ?
The electric guitar was all live performance. It was recorded with an electro acoustic guitar DI and the end riff was a PRS SE custom 24. I'm not familiar with guitar libraries

.then he went to a label with his bag of tracks..
Hey in the mix I just want to ask how can I submit my remix to you I have remixed it can you tell Me please...
HarshBeatz Submission details are on the video on produce like a pro :)
What synth are you using?
Marcus Kruse I created the synth on Serum from the default patch. I might make a tutorial on it but it's saw waves with a lot of filtering and a low cut. The bass was created on on Moog Synth and also a low serum patch to add some extra weight
What is name of this track?
Smart
🔥🔥🔥🔥
When I sidechain a track to the track with the delay and the effect comes in the volume just increases a lot. Is there any form of doing that with the volume remaining the same?
watch his side chaining video
Cool synth! I study music in Finland in music school and try to learn to produce edm at the moment and I really like your videos. could you make like edm/pop track tutorial like kygo style for example?
Miika K I tend to make tutorials on the music I make which is sort of EDM
Yea I noticed, cool!
How to make vocal harmonies
what does ping pong mode do?
It makes the delay jumpy! From side to side
Please we need some new sfx prec and loops etc bundle samples...i have downloaded the old ones..something new please
Name the song plz
Hecham Ghost "Right Here" by Miavono
In The Mix thank u 😘
Why did you have to sidechain that ?
Purences There are 2 reasons. Firstly I wanted complete control to EQ,compress add reverb to the delay without affecting the original synth at all.
Secondly, the repeater delay input only goes down to -24 dB. So sending it to another track lets me automate the volume going in. Although it's called a "sidechain" in FL studio it's really more of a "send" that I am turning on and off when needed. Does that clear it up? :)
In The Mix Yes thank you
Actually I think this type of delay has been put in "stay".. In the beginning
