Doomsday Sacrifices His Life For Clark To Defeat Luthor In Superman & Lois

After both the Warner Brothers Discovery merger and the sale of The CW to Nexstar, the fourth and final season of Superman and Lois was a pleasant surprise. The network had canceled almost every other WB-produced show without much fanfare, so the fact that this show even got to continue felt like a small miracle. With the episode titled "It Went By So Fast," Superman and Lois wrapped up with the most complete and fulfilling conclusion to Kal-El's journey so far. Although the penultimate episode ended on a tense cliffhanger, the trailer for the series finale gave away the outcome. Instead of facing defeat at the hands of Doomsday, the Man of Steel had his last battle with Lex Luthor high in the sky. But even after saving the day, nothing is permanent for the Man of Tomorrow.
"It Went By So Fast" packed a lot into just one hour, yet it managed to give a truly satisfying conclusion to the series. The first half was a spectacular display of visual effects, even more exciting than the showdown between Doomsday and Superman in the Season 4 opener. Once the heroes triumphed over their enemies, the rest of the episode shifted focus to Clark Kent’s life and his legacy as a husband, father, and Superman. The show also provided both Superman and Lois Lane with something they rarely get: a clear and definitive conclusion to their story.
Just like their first encounter, Superman was struggling against Doomsday. He realized he couldn't defeat the creature. All Superman could do was distract Doomsday and keep him away from Smallville, Lois, and the boys. However, this time, his strategy wasn't working. As their battle tore through the town, Superman grew weaker. Eventually, Clark had to admit he needed help, and both his sons and John Henry Irons stepped in. Steel's hammer played a crucial role in turning the fight around, temporarily taking down Doomsday and giving the heroes a chance to win.
