So pleased you enjoyed attending the autojumble Dominic - great film! Come back next year for the Spring Autojumble in May and continue your search. Make sure you share a picture of your renovated wheel hub with us, we love to see what people do with their autojumble finds.
When I was living in France in the early 90's I used to go up to England for the car auctions and races- Stayed at the Thistle Hotel at Brands and went to Beaulieu a couple times. ( I actually lived in Beaulieu Sur Mer). The SE and SW are absolutely the most beautiful places you can imagine. I remember seeing a herd of wild horses somewhere near Beaulieu, and as a Yank, I was surprised that wild herds still existed in England. Great times- taking the Sealink ferries before the tunnel was opened and driving along the south coast.
I apprenticed, under an Elderly English Gentleman (here in British Columbia, Canada) who had apprenticed at Rolls Royce. He had built his own "Wheelie Machine", and gave me just enough instruction, to make me dangerous... 😉 I wish I had spent more time at it... 😞 I LOVE the 356 videos, and can't wait to see more... Keep up the Great Work... Allan
I love your honesty in these videos. Most people only put a video up when most everything works perfectly. Thank you for showing us real snippets in your crazy search for hard to find stuff. Much more enjoyable!
Only just found this channel. You have just made floods of memories come back. The English wheel behind you, I bust the tips of my fingers in when serving my apprenticeship many years go! Get yourself a leather apron to work with that on metal! You are right though. Many if us left the trade. Its a dying art. We used to have a pair of white gloves in the tool box. You wear them when feeling a finished panel. So, like the old Bristols, Triumphs ,Sprites, you white glove them to feel the hand made work that went into them.
There should also be a Spring Motormart Autojumble in May, the September event was traditionally the larger one but largely thanks to the complications of importing / exporting post-Brexit there were virtually no European stallholders at Autojumble and it was more the size of the Motormart. Autojumble usually has another two fields of stuff.
I can’t believe I spent a quarter of a hour watching someone looking for something they didn’t find and not bidding on a car they wanted, ok you got me ,I’m going to watch your Porsche video now.
Love your enthusiasm. I too fear our old skills are on the way out with the invent of cancer machines etc. I only wish and to some extent regret that I turned away from possible careers at Rolls Royce, Crewe to join the armed forces and then a further lengthy career in Surrey Police. I now sit watching you tube and tv series about old skills from wood turning across to thatching and wish I had some of those old skills. I often consider applying to get an apprenticeship in one of these old trades but at 57 years of age who would employ me. Anyway Dom, I hope and pray that your devotion to bringing Ranalagh (sorry if spelt incorrectly) back on line gets some of the younger members of society to think about training in these dying out trades. Thank you Dom..
cracking video will keep eyes and ears to the ground out and about in the west country for any thing Ranalah my boss had one in his garage but that was 50 years ago a country garage very old school his hobbies was steam traction engines and the old mechanic there was only one knew how to use the Ranalah. it all long gone now but will keep eyes open you never know loving the channel good luck with the porsche and have fun :-)
Dangerous places auto jumbles, I went to the Newark one to sell some motorcycle parts and came back with more than I went with! Great vid, look forward to seeing plenty more.
A Tip ! Get a t shirt printed with what you are looking for with LARGE letters on it. I had AUSTIN A70 printed on a shirt ... You would be surprised at just how many traders spotted it and pulled out bits for me. Give it a go ! ;-)
Your videos are the highlight of my week! Waiting to sort out the roof of my garage so I can start learning how to weld so I can tackle a VW camper restoration, so thanks for your welding video a few months back.
Best of luck with it! Let me know if there’s anything I missed on the welding video, have a look at Parweld’s machines when the time comes, they are very good.
Autojumbles are like an addiction, I used to go search frantically through stalls for Ariel Leader bits. It is what it must feel like to have a gambling problem. What a rush to find something.
I found your site through one of those 'other viewers watch this' things. You, sir are an absolute nutcase. My kind of people. Shall enjoy delving in to your cabinet of curiosities, I'm sure. (Shame about the Lagonda, that would've made a nice little runabout)...
The spare wheel cover would be easily made by spinning on a lathe, but in production god knows perhaps they had a press tool. The Lagonda would indeed have made a very handsome sporty restoration. I used to have several wheeling machine and an ecols, most peeps would be amazed what could be produced from these machines, Oh by the way I come from the era of fusion welding, with a flame, then plenishing out welds and repairs, with a flipper and dolly. I wish that I had the chance to pass on what was a wonderful trade.
You sound like my kind of guy! Very impressive skills. The spare wheel was indeed spun, I’ve never tried but I imagine it’s more difficult than it looks!
Some years ago I wrote a piece for one of the UK old car magazines. I came up with the expression "neck bent shuffling" to describe looking round Beaulieu. I think you just proved it right again. Well done Dom.
Autojumbles where part of my education growing up. Still got the little die cast cars and bits I bought with my dad there encouraging me to negotiate the price with the sellers.
I love Beaulieu auto jumble I used to go every year, haven’t been for a few now,it was good to see all those Lambrettas there Dom, I wish you’d bought one as a project!

First time to watch any of your video's, ......really great, you have a natural way on screen. After quite a few decades buying and selling country antiques in the UK and Europe, let me give you some advice. if you really want to buy something specific like your Ranalah machines and stuff, just print up an A3/A4 flyer and hand it out to the stall-holders at shows like these, .........if they know there is a potential buyer, and they find anything, they will give you a call, we all used to work that way. Ahh, happy memories of very many hours selling and buying at Beaulieu Auto jumble over the years! The excitement of browsing the stalls for NOS or restorable parts for cars I've restored was something looked forward to all year. Sorry you didn't find any Ranalah patterns or decent literature, but hopefully as the word spreads more will emerge. Best of luck and please keep your great videos coming Dom!
During my misspent youth I was all about the electronics0 no interest in "obsolee" gears and levers and such. Now, I find that there's something about old cars with that blunt-nosed, brute force look like the one at 6:13 which hides all sorts of clever intricate engineering inside that appeals to me. Great video. I did see a wheeler dealers where they made a wheel cover but from steel. There was a word for it but can't recall it. It think it was a rough press and then worked on a type of lathe. Looking forward to more Porsche videos.
Ciao Dom,Just started watching your channel..it's fantastic! have to say I do miss the odd auto jumble in the UK since returning back to where I feel most at home (Bologna, Italy) we have 5hem here as well but most of them have been cancelled due to covid..the most important one being the "CRAME" event within the Imola race circuit which is 20 mins from Bologna..a real shame. If you ever find yourself in Bologna do give us a shout and will show you around the beautiful region of Emilia Romagna, also known as "Motor Valley".keep up the great content.
Hi Dom - great Video - i know that you'll be looking for stuff on Ebay on Ranalah - just had a look and someone from Peterborough is selling original pamphlets - good luck Trevor Williams
You did yourself a favour not going for the Lagonda Dom. You’ll need your pennies for the Porche. Hard lines on not seeing any stuff you were chasing after. Looking forward to your videos on the Porche renovation. Great video as always bud.
Again, Great video. I went on the Saturday and as usual a great Beaulieu. Sorry to hear that you weren’t able to locate any Ranalah parts, may be next year. I will be sure to look out and let you know, maybe others could do the same.
Brilliant video of Beaulieu Dom - You must be so proud not to bid at the auction- The hubcap you bought for £10 had the look of a superheroes shield 🤔 Wonder what your superhero name would be Dom 🤔😊
Great Vlog Dom.. congrats on the 356 vid doing so well. Looking forward to your next videos, especially the continuing saga of the rebirth of the Ranalah brand and product.
Hi Dom, again. Back on the 356 theme, have you seen the restoration of a pre-A 356 Speedster video on RUclips? Perhaps worth catching if you have a few minutes. A few bits shown with an english wheel (could make out the make) and lots, and lots of welding and fabricating. All stuff I suspect you can do. Best wishes, Paul.
Great video, Dom. What a wonderland of stuff that place has. Had the same experience with an old boat I thought I might pick up for a few hundred dollars twenty years ago . Was actually foolish enough to grab my chequebook. Imagine my surprise and shame to see an asking price close to $20K. Gulp. Good luck with your search and can’t wait to see more Porsche content!
Have you looked at Micro Machines channel Dom, there is a young lad that is currently making his own boat tail speedster from scratch. in the earlier episodes he is using a cheap wheeling machine that he has improved. Well worth watch his series on the car. Very talented young man. There is also a young lad that works for Retro Power and he has English Wheel experience. So it is not quite a dying art form just yet. Hopefully there will be enough youngsters taking an interest in learn traditional working methods.
So do I!! Haha I will try my Best to keep updates as regular as possible but I am filming repair shop full time and we are very busy, I’ll do what I can!
yet another cool video Dom, i have been in the same situation i buy football stuff and found a flag from the old wembly had 2000 pounds but it went for a lot more, pleased now i didn't get it or was tempted to bid its so easy to get carried away, well done keep up the great work..
There are a lot of guys in the US who are brilliant with English wheels, often sectioning old Fords and making rat rods. How was the wheel cover made - my guess is metal spinning.
It's no surprise that the Porsche project start was so watched. So little real car mechanics/restoration projects to watch. So far it's Dom and Edd China for me. Maybe get them together.
@@DominicChineas Just an idea. Have you thought of contacting Henry Cole? Him and Sam Lovegrove are always into sheds and places where they might come into contact with the machinery you are looking for.

I haven’t seen those thank you I’ll check them out!
There’s definitely people still using wheeling machines, but we could definitely use a few more!

@@DominicChineas Can't wait to see the progression.

Keep em coming Dom, you have a great channel here
Thanks, will do!
Hi Dom I really want to see that porsche project progress
So do I!! Haha I will try my
Best to keep updates as regular as possible but I am filming repair shop full time and we are very busy, I’ll do what I can!
Aston Martin in Newport Pagnell still use them to make panels
That’s really good to hear!
You could make a nice interesting clock from that wheel cover without damaging it.
Perfect!
Another awesome video , thanks dom
Your so welcome thank you for watching
You could have popped in for a cuppa, I live about 5 miles away from Beaulieu!! Great video Dom.
What a lovely place to live!
yet another cool video Dom, i have been in the same situation i buy football stuff and found a flag from the old wembly had 2000 pounds but it went for a lot more,
pleased now i didn't get it or was tempted to bid its so easy to get carried away, well done keep up the great work..
Very tempting isn’t it!! Nightmare
And don't forget that "buyer's premium". They charge you money for the privilege of buying. At Bonhams, that is 27.5% plus VAT extra to pay!
Turn the wheel trim into a clock and your logo 👌🤔
Can’t believe I didn’t think of that!
There are a lot of guys in the US who are brilliant with English wheels, often sectioning old Fords and making rat rods. How was the wheel cover made - my guess is metal spinning.
The hunt continues. You'll find the rainbow eventually
One day!
It's no surprise that the Porsche project start was so watched. So little real car mechanics/restoration projects to watch. So far it's Dom and Edd China for me. Maybe get them together.
That’s a real compliment thank you! I’ll reach out to him and see if he fancies doing something!
I am now following you because of the 356A. Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much for following! I will have another Porsche update soon, but not every video will be Porsche, I hope you’ll enjoy the others too
@@DominicChineas Just an idea. Have you thought of contacting Henry Cole? Him and Sam Lovegrove are always into sheds and places where they might come into contact with the machinery you are looking for.
I hadn’t thought of that, I will look into it thank you!
Loved the first porsche episode, whens the next update?
Thank you, as soon as I can, maybe next Sunday!
