Alan Millyard may have a radial engine for sale...it may be missing two cylinders
Dom, Call Kermit Weeks in the USA, or call Richard Grace in the UK, they will know someone who knows someone. Call Ivan again.
Is Richard Grace any relation to James Grace of Grace Engine developments, Newbury, Berkshire. ?
@@Rovinman I don't know, he is the son of the late Richard and Carolyn Grace spitfire restorers.
@@andydelapoer Thanks for that anyway ! Cheers
Stu xx
Kermit weeks is a great idea - Fantasy of Flight - Florida … if not what about this as an alternative …
I feel your pain Dom. I too have searched for months for what seemed an impossible object which then turned up right under my nose! Only the obsessed understand why these quests are truly worthwhile. Great video again.
We have an old 6 cylinder aero engine in the back of our hangar that may be available. I think we’d take a ride on mower in exchange as long as it’s working. The engine is disassembled, and is only the block, crank, cylinders, heads, pistons and valves. No carbs, probably no sump. But it is old (ww2 sort period). It’s in-line so would fit in a car. It’s also very big, both physically, and capacity wise, probably about 10 litres.
Air cooled? - Gypsy six?! : )
@@loddude5706 Yes, a Gypsy Queen. However I was looking at it yesterday and there are actually fewer parts remaining than I had thought. There appears to be no cylinders, just heads, and the plate the forms the top of the crank-case is missing.
@@TheFleetflyer - Ah, knew an IoM engineer 30+yrs ago, Ken Gomm, he was rebuilding a rare DH Dove (?) out at the airport & that ran on a pair of Queens (Oo-er!)
A long shot now, but maybe worth a sniff around eh? Good luck to him anyway : )
Can't wait to see this build! Someone will have a corker of an engine somewhere, just waiting for you 🤞🏻
Thank you for being so generous!! I really appreciate it, my email is domchinea@gmail.com send me an email!
Get this man an engine, quick!
I've checked the shed - two children's bikes, a lawn mower, a rusty barbecue, but no 1 WW aero engine.
Thanks for trying haha!
@@DominicChineas Do the rounds of the vintage, antique and classic boat shows. Try the Thames Traditional, and Classic Boat show.
Loved meeting you at the jumble Dom. Fingers crossed for your engine hunt. I suspect most aero engines are being held for spares by people who need them.
Hard luck with the engine. I received my Ranalah keyring - oh what a joy! The address label, the wax paper, the ink stamp... you did it brilliantly. Thank you...
Pedal Car, Porsche, and Aero engine... will be fun to watch all of these, and what ever you come up with after that
And here we go!!!
As always an excellent video Dom.
Good luck with your search. Have a marvelous week.😊
Thanks for the video.
Hi Dom, your video’s are always interesting. Best of luck with your aero engine search.👍👍
Good luck with the search for the engine. It's going to be an incredible project!
Greetings from Colorado,USA. Dom, enjoy your stuff, good luck on your quest
Sending you positive vibes, Dom, the right Aero engine will turn up. There has to be one out there with your name on it. Love the channel and everything that you do keep up the amazing work ❤
Wish I could have been in Beaulieu as well! Good video!
Off topic but I'd love to have a playlist of the music in these videos. Good stuff.
Good luck with the project Dom . . . someone will have an aero engine for you somewhere.
Fingers crossed!
The round Castrol Wakefield sign! I need that for my shed! The family name is Wakefield 👌
Nice, just keep doing what your doing 😎😎😎👍👍👍😊
I missed you there Dom. Would've loved to said hi to you. Just so much hustle and bustle there and I'm just looking at the floor all the time😂
I was really hoping that you were going to say that you had found the engine you were looking for. I'm sure that one will turn up and, in the meantime, look forward to seeing your pedal car progress: astonishing how much money they now fetch. Best wishes.
Your videos are so relaxed and wholesome, I know nothing about engineering but I love to learn.
Hi Dom, Good luck with the search, 😁 All the best Brian 😁
Loved this video. I live north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. There’s a town up this way called Butler. Every year they have a Parts-A-Rama. You name it as far as automotive parts, tools, accessories, anything related to the auto industry. It’s there. So similar to this video. Take us with you to a few more interesting places.
Good luck Dom, I’ll try and see you in the summer.
Another entertaining video, hope you find what you’re looking for mate 👍
Hmm, I’ve just remembered I am in a club with two guys who are building, I think it’s a Sopwith Pup, replica cockpit. Pretty sure they have a real engine in it, so I will ask if they know of any engines hidden away if and when I see them.
They have something to do with the Sunderland air museum, so it might also be worth your while contacting the museum directly.
Thanks so much
Gutted you couldnt find your engine Dom. Chin up it will happen x
Good luck with your search.
Enjoyed it. Hope you visit another sale of old parts. You never know what you can find I love em
Hi Dom, good luck with your search I’m sure there is one out there.
Happy Hunting Dom
Dom your a after my own heart you will get one your already getting leads best of luck with it lookin forward to seeing what your up to now.
Many years ago I used to know some of the Mitchell family. They lived around Stoke on Trent. It might be worth your trying to track them down and see if there’s anyone still around who could help. As you probably know, they built the Spitfire. Good luck !
Dom, What a project! If you can't find something why not think outside the box and make one. You could make a simple V8, a copy of the Air Disposal Company's Airdisco V8 from 1924. That was 9 litre 120hp air cooled with exposed valve gear. The Shuttleworth collection have a running and flying one of these in their DH51 you could look at. Either way I'll follow your progress with interest, Good luck Sir!
Have you considered advertising in The Automobile, you might reach a set of old car enthusiasts that don't use social media, or are there any aviation mags that might get the word out for you? I imagine you will also go to the Goodwood Members event next year and/or the Revival later this year to talk to the people who race Edwardian aero engined specials.
Great video dom
Appreciate it
Good video
Hope your quest is soon rewarded. Enjoyed your walk about. Did you do any impulse purchases? Looked like a lot of temptation there.
Thought the backing music was great too.
Thanks
Possibly worth a try at duxford
When I saw the red and the blue pedal cars I wondered what was under the paint.
Greetings and salutations from Stillwater, Oklahoma. WOW all those panel beating hammers and dollies as well as the bead roller set in the wooden box. Love this video, so sorry you didn’t find the Aero engine you were looking for from a year back or another different specimen.
Visited the Spitfire and Hurricane museum at Manston yesterday where they had a couple of engines on display - thought of you 😂
Hi Dom. Sorry to see you could not find an engine but i think someone will see your request & get in touch .
Good luck & have faith.
Why did I not realise that the "aero" engine was an aeroplane engine! 😮 Have I not been listening to anything?!
I would've bought those Tower of London things you made and Neil needs some new clamps! Oh gosh, have you now talked us into going along to this!
Hi Dom, try Solent Sky museum in Southampton. They have tonnes of spares and knowledge there. Good luck
Hi Dom, I don’t think you’ll remember me but I knew you from KK, and Jon, I hear you are after a aircraft engine, a friend of mine is building a motorcycle with a radial engine ( project Hercules on RUclips), I’ve asked him for any contacts he is looking for you, but he said that Newark aircraft museum is the place to ask as thats where he sourced his. Hope you’re well and that this is helpful, I’ll let you know if I hear anything, cheers, Vic
Thank you! I appreciate it and will reach out to them
I know Dom has his heart set on an aero racer, but I'd love to see him and honest John (with their VW experience) do a formula V racer from the ground up.
I received the Ranalah key ring this week and I am really chuffed. It was presented excellently in its postal package too. Thank you, keep up the good work Dom😊
Try the VSCC at Donington park in July. Some one might have some knowledge of where to look. Good luck love the vlogs
I would like to just once go too a market and see several wood machinist / engineers tool boxes for sale.
I'll have a look around Newark Autojumble 9th June
Thank you!
Dom if you go to Newark, then also go to the air museum, they may have something to help you.
Dom, Charles Leith Ltd have an 8.2 litre aero engine for sale. States perfect for an Edwardian! It's a 1915 curtiss.
Have you tried Mr. Google ?
I just entered 'ww1 engines wanted" and a Plethora suddenly appeared including a 1915 /16, 8.2 litre Curtiss { advertised in 2019 though },
Most of them seem to be Rotaries though !
Lots of Museums though ! { they may be selling off, old stock ! }
Keep finding 0.49cc Model aircraft engines as well, { I don't think that they're powerful enough though ! }
Good luck with the search !
Stu xx
I wonder if the Shuttleworth Collection may have something laying about spare that would be suitable? Or knowledge of something available.
Or the IWM at Duxford - and maybe even the Science museum in London (don't laugh!) - they have a collection of aero engines on display - maybe many more not on display?
Dom you should of walked round with a sign saying what your looking for. A little sad but a spitfire had some bad luck this week which made me think Dom could put that engine to good use or if he contacted the team who built it they may know someone with an engine.
Perhaps a visit to the Hershey Carlisle market in the US would be the place to go someday. Enjoyed the video a lot. Any best guess on when the mini's will be shipping? Cheers mate, thank you.
There's one out there somewhere 😊
You know Ivan got a ranalah!
Yes! Clearly has good taste! Haha
Hi Dom, I have an almost complete Dehavilland 6cyl supercharged aircraft engine (around 10ltr) that I would part with. Just missing a few easy bits like valves and rockers which can still be found. I was going to use it for an aero car too!
Hi, do you know what age the engine is? I need one that is pre 1918, I think yours may be a bit new?
@@DominicChineas ah sadly yes its 60's!
I suggest that you try contacting Allen Millyard, he built a motorcycle engine from part of a rotary aero engine and could well have contacts that can help you out
Dom and Allen would be a great combo on a video!
Last time I was at Beulieu I was collecting a VW fleet vehicle which they had been using, I got to go in through the back door with one of their Engineers who gave me a brief tour round the workshops!! ps I used to have a customer in Biggleswade who built one of the original, driveable Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang cars. Was based on a Ford Transit 3.0 V6 chassis!
Best of luck Dom with your search, my ranalalah key ring arrived love it, 👍🏻👍🏻🤠
Congratulations on the nomination to everyone on the team! It doesn’t matter if you didn’t win - you wonderful experts were nominated 👌 It’s one step closer to that all-important recognition of what you all do is so important AND resonates with a huge percentage of your invaluable audience. I cant legally watch it here in Singapore where I live, because no channel plays it, si just get my fill of it every time I get back home 👌
Ivan bought a Hall-Scott fairly cheap online from someone in the states. Try online I suppose?!?
This is way left field, but contact the vintage aviator in Wellington nz. Sir Peter Jackson owns it and they make 1/1 scale replicas of ww1 fighter planes and if anyone knows where there are engines it’s most likely these guys as a good port of call. Good luck 🤞
I’d say if you want aero engines, Hershey or Mannhiem auto jumble or pretty sure there is a aero one in the states.
Have you thought about contacting some aeroplane museums to see if they have something to trade.
You should come to Hershey “auto jumble” in October in Pennsylvania. I have seen aero engines every year I go
Really?! Wow ok I’ll look Into it
@@DominicChineas it’s a big event. There is a company that has a booth for overseas shipping
Ivan has a couple of Hall and Scott engines. I would get back in touch.
He needs them for his car!
What about contacting air museums, see if they have any spare pnes nit on display.
Porsche?
Have you spoken with The engineers at The Shuttleworth Collection? May be worth a try?
Dom,
Search Aircraft Engines: Through World War I at Old Machine Press & ask the Shuttleworth Collection for advice.
Dom Look up Barn Stormers in the USA.
We have an original Ranalah english wheel in Hangar 5 at Duxford, no spare engines though
Awesome! Does it have a ranalah plaque on it?
@@DominicChineas not sure, I'll have a look on Friday when I'm back at work
It does have a makers plate on it
There’s a Tiger Moth engine available but I don’t think it’s quite old enough.
You tried Old Warden aerodrome
Try sir, Peter Jackson in New Zealand, they make ww1 engines. Wingnut is the name of one of his ventures. Happy hunting.
I'm curious - when you build the special, does it need to be a recreation of a racing car that existed previously in order to participate in things like Goodwood and VMCC races, or are you allowed to "freestyle" one as long as it is all period correct parts and something that "could have" existed in the Edwardian era?
We talked about you yesterday as we enjoyed the Shuttleworth Collection's D-Day weekend.
They have a brilliant display of aero engines. Not for sale but they might be worth contacting in case they have any ideas...?
I think you are a bit early talking about D DAY. 6 June 1944!
@@richardm.gramling1772 Nope, it was definitely the Shuttleworth Collection's DDay event THIS weekend. The DDay Squadron Legacy Tour flew in especially from the States. 4 wonderful DC-3s in all their glory!
Try looking around Aero jumbles rather Auto jumbles if you are after an aircraft engine and associated parts.
Felt like Everything under one roof..wondering whether they had electronics gadgets too like old computer / laptops..etc in any of the tables.?
Aren't there aircraft versions of auto jumbles(aero jumbles)somewhere that might give you more options?
I take it you've asked your mate Tim Gun, I know he's a Cyclecar man, but he's in the right circles! 🤞
Pity it has to be first world war era , the Gypsy moth and Gypsy major engines have been used in quite a few " specials"
Anyone know what’s happening with the Porsche? Discovered the playlist late and really enjoyed binging them all!
12.57, just not long enough
Ring Ivan, he might know.
Comment for the algorithm.
😂👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Dom have you spoken to anyone at Headcorn aerodrome as there's a lot of people there that maybe helpful. And not that far from your workshop.
Give Bill Bonner a call at Bonner Engineering, Shoreham airport. He might be able to help.
Old Rhinebeck auto drone sell engines
Look for a liberty engine many thousands were made it large and powerful water cooled
I saw a guy selling a Curtis OX-5 V8 going for $10K US in the forums about 6 months ago.. As much as I'd love to build one, it's just not a project I'd ever see myself financially getting to the finish line with. I mean I'd love to have a Mercedes 300SLR replica with the real deal Straight 8, but I didn't buy a stack of bitcoin when it was worth 12cents a po, sadly. I've decided to get an old air cooled Honda XR thumper and doing a dual sport build with it on a CR Motocrosser frame, as it's just a more realistic project for me that I can buy bits piecemeal as I go off facebook marketplace and fleabay..
