  • Since leaving Europe we now need to do import and export paperwork to move goods in or out of Europe. The process has been there for many years, now with the internet it can be done much faster, a lot is done using barcodes. But, it all relies on the right thing being entered in the right box.

Very interesting. As a simple car driver, I have often used the shops in that plaza for last minute buys on the way home to the UK. Never realised there is a substantial customs truck park out back. Our regular itinerary used to be: overnight at Pamplona, up to Carrefour at Oiartzun for lunch and top up the diesel. On to the plaza for a couple of bottles of Fundador, over the border and away.

Had ideas of doing European work but too old now. Interesting episode and shows how far the trucking industry has and hasn't progressed. Great the internet is being utilised but paper documents ! individual offices ! .parking up and waiting for someone to be in work !. Unless the load has to be physically checked we should be at a point where a barcode scanned on an app at a border point is all that's needed.

That was when we were in Europe. Things now are basically the same as they were before we joined, although generally much quicker than then as computers and the internet have been invented, a lot is done using barcodes. Although it does require the right information being put in the right box.
We have always had to do this or a similar procedure for Swiss, Andorra and Gibraltar as well as every other country outside EU.

In fact, we have always had to do customs documents for Swiss, Andorra and Gibraltar. I sat in irun for a complete weekend in 2008 waiting for customs to clear. I had a load of export alcoholic beverages. I part loaded from a bond in Leighton buzzard and then part loaded the rest in Rotterdam. I was running my C-series ERF at the time. Some Spanish drivers parked next to me invited me for supper. Great memories. The load was going to an ex pat booze warehouse, just outside benidorm. I got a ticket off the police for turning into the warehouse on a fixed white line ! Never did pay it 😂😂😂

Wow! The idea of paying to park at customs is new to me.
We would put a bar code sticker on the paperwork and fax it to the customs broker at the border crossing. Phone to ensure they received it.
Roll up to the officer in the booth and be on our way if there was no problem.
Mind you at the Peace bridge or Queenston Lewiston bridge there was no restaurants. Just vending machines.
Canada customs had a list of places that delivered if you wanted to order in.

    • @GBtrucklady

Parking is a problem throughout UK and Europe, I think the idea of paying is to stop people parking for days on end as it’s such a small space.
