My heart broke when I saw this, you would expect some kind of happy reunion (for Kratos standards obviously) after Atreus' recovery but instead the minute Atreus wakes up he immediately stands and promises that it won't happen again. The boy is so afraid that his father would think of him as a weakling and leave him behind that that's the first thing he does after almost dying. I'm amazed that I still find so many details in the animations of this game. As Freya tells the story of her son, her hand rests on Atreus' shoulder and at 1:23 you can even see her gently caressing it - then she pulls the hand away in a sudden jolt, very untypical for her. She was so caught in the memories of her own child, for a moment she must've dreamt about the days when she cuddled her own little boy - then reality caught up to her and she snapped back into helping-witch-mode, grabbing the medicine. There's so much character in 2 seconds of animation - this game is truly something special.
I teared up a bit bit when Kratos extends his had to Freya, offering his sincere thanks with gesture as calm and respectful as tat is a far cry from the Kratos we all grew up with, and I love how he's grown.
3:09 that handshake really really should have solidified the first real friendship Kratos has had in years. They have fear, but they still have children anyway, spreading the disease, making more suffer from it. If Kratos hated what he was, he shouldnt had a son.
AdeptKing they were like this in actual mythology too but marvel made them less of douchbags so people don’t realize Thor was a dickhead god said to kill people at random and steal their livestock or that Odin was a merciless leader who exterminated anyone who opposed him
Cory Aimck fair enough. I can see Odin being that way, even in the movie on Ragnarok they actually showed that he was a conqueror at one point. I don't know about Thor though, they all say he has a bad temper but he's supposed to have a good heart. I think the Giants aren't as nice in the myths either.
AdeptKing ya the giants were horrible. Dwarves were extremely greedy and so too were the gods. Heck Freya (in real Mythogy since they swapped her with Frigg) sold herself for a night with dwarves for a golden magical necklace. Thor had a temper but it was halted by his good heart. Odin is a God of wisdom, victory, and at times death & poetry. He was a ruler, decisions needed to made and with his son Thor the giant-slayer all giants that dared attack were soon dead. Even stories of their cruelity are shown only through sympathizing with Loki, the trickster, God of mischief and blood brother to Odin. Only after Loki had continuously put the gods in harm's way did they punish him. But having Baldur be killed by his prank with mistletoe lead to the worst of it. Chaining him to the ceiling above and a immovable stone made of the guys from one of his monstrous offspring. Only later would he invade with his kind, as his children join in, as Surt comes to burn the world in fire only to be reborn a new after the end of the world
Actually you seem to be pretty unfamiliar with the mythos, if that is what you think. Thor was the favored God amongst the Vikings, even more so than his father, because Thor out of all the Aesir was Midgards most fierce protector. He would scare away trolls and Jotunn with the sound of thunder. Vikings wore trinkets shaped like Mjolnir for fertility and protection for this reason. Also, Thor, unlike Odin in some instances did not require human sacrifices, rather he would traverse Midgard and demand hospitality of humans, if he needed a place to bunk over night. It was for good reason considered the greatest of honors and even if the family had nothing to give, Thor would simply slaughter one of his goats and raise it the coming day. He was, considering the standards back then a very kind God, at least where humans are concerned. The version seen in this is very different, as it should be, I doubt Kratos would have much conflict with either the Mythological or the Marvel version of Thor, so he has been villified quite a bit here.
@@Dres2000 But even after that, she still did Kratos and Atreus a massive favour by prompting the father to finally reveal some of his history to the boy, knowing that they would not meet again for a while and that Mimir probably wasn't able to do it. So far, Kratos has only formed genuine friendships with 3 gods: Orcos, Athena and Frøya(or Freya for english-speakers). But they all ended tragically. Athena being accidentally killed, only to return as a Greed-corrupted spirit, Orcos having to die so that Kratos could be freed from the grasp of Ares, and now Frøya who swears revenge on him after he kills her son Balder.

This game needs to become a movie. I know the game already is like one, but I rather just watch scenes like these instead of actually playing the game.
We've all seen how they've done video game movies in the past. But the Sonic the Hedgehog movie pretty much broke this curse. Proving good video game movies can be made if they follow the lore and give respect to the characters.
You can always type “God of war movie all cutscenes” and multiple channels will appear giving you what you want. But unfortunately, this game is becoming a tv series too.
I think one of the most interesting / ironic things about video games today is that many stories (like this one) are told from the perspective of a parent, yet I'd venture to guess that the majority of people who play these games are not parents themselves. With that in mind, I'm curious to know the kind of impact by which people view Kratos' or Freya's struggles to protect their children from danger. Or perhaps those who used to play the older God of War games are now? And that's what drove the directors to shift to this kind of perspective? #JustAnObservation #FromAFellowStoryteller
I disagree. Being that GOW has been out since the teen yrs for alot of people the game has grown with us which makes this transition appropriate for the original die hard fans. The kids just getting on to this is not the core fanbase.
Apparently, the director of this God of War had become a parent himself. I think he wrote the first God of War and now that he had grown up he decided to have his own character grow up by trying to be a father.
Kratos will die in the next GoW. But guess what? According to Norse myth after Ragnarok Baldur escapes Helheim and returns to rule Asgard with his twin brother Hodr. So yup, we might visit Helheim's deepest parts and meet some "old friends" from Olympus, and maybe Baldur as well. Prediction: a) Kratos and Baldur will clash with each other in Hel and they'll both end up outside of it. b) Kratos will find a way out and Baldur will follow him in secret. Whichever happens it will not change the fact that they'll both see Asgard in ruins.
I have the feeling when kratos comes finally out of helheim he´ll find asgard in ruins and his son sitting on the mountain of corpses that were once the gods and their army. then Kratos will be "BOY! WHY DID YOU START WITHOUT ME!?"
1:10 that “needless death” was how he ended up dying. None of that needed to happen, cus if she had never taken away Bauldur’s invulnerability, Bauldur would never grow to resent her and ultimately be killed by Kratos. So needless.
It's interesting. Freya admits she's wrong for what she did to Baldur, she even admits where those deeds came from, her own selfish fears, yet she still destroyed the mistletoe. She still fought to keep Baldur protected by the magic. She's self aware enough to admit her faults and mistakes in a rational state of mind, but her actions are still driven by the irrational and selfish desires to keep Baldur protected. If anyone is for some reason still confused and wants to know why what she did is selfish and wrong, it's because her magic came at the price of taking a whole WORLD of experience away from Baldur. The magic of never being hurt by anything ever again came at his expense. The sacrifice wasn't of something from her, it was taken right out of Baldur's own life.
When freya tells kratos about her son, I now see why she put that curse on him. Imagine giving birth and you're so happy and tearful at what you've brought into the world, only for someone to immediately walk in and say your new baby will die a horrible death and there's nothing you can do to prevent it. Freya is definitely selfish for cursing Baldur, but I understand why she did it
Kratos: You see to it that it does not. While he didn't directly say it, I felt Kratos was more or less saying that he will see to it that this never happens again.
Funny how Freya admits her wrongs in terms of raising Baldur but later on when the curse in lifted she’s basically scared and terrified when he finally feels pain, Basically implying tht whats she told Kratos was worthless and tht she’s literally bullshitting herself
Some aspects...She's not one to be underestimated - her magic powers are unmatched; granted she has her warrior's spirit back. Definitely is, she mistakenly cursed her son with the foolish decision of "blessing" him with invulnerability - without knowing it would destroy his psyche entirely...
2:12 "The boy has been cursed..." You know what makes me so sad in this dialogue line? Kratos is realizing that HE is the one who cursed his son with being a god, all of this is his own fault How hard it must be for a parent to realize that they are damaging their child, that you ARE the cause of this... Specially since, Kratos has already lost a child before Can't even phantom what Kratos is probably feeling in this scene
I think I figured out how that spell or potion worked. The Bridge Keeper was said by Mimir to make sure ‘that the dead stay dead’, to me that sounds like the role of Charon in Greece. As we remember from Chains of Olympus Charon decides if the souls are worthy to go to the underworld via his ferry. Using the heart that has these souls, Freya gave his soon to be deceased soul back. Or at least that’s my theory as Mimir was resurrected via different means, but Mimir is undead.
Thats the issue with how the older games handled the narrative and character development. The emotional hooks were often either underdeveloped or overshadowed and forgotten in between the spectacle and excess of the action. Calliope just felt like a plot device for Kratos more so than an actual person.
Why does no one learn the fucking lesson about oracles, THE PROPHECY HAPPENS ONLY IF YOU ACT UPON ITS WARNING, IF YOU IGNORE THEM THEY WONT HAPPEN, LIKE WHY DOES NO ONE LEARN ?

Kratos and Freya have so much in common. Both former Gods and betrayed by their own Gods. Both seek to find a new life and forget the past. I'd say they would have made a great couple. And great parents to Atreus. Especially with scenes like this.
You know what would be funny? If freya fucked up the healing spell in an attempt to hide baldur's weakness to atreus, and he starts babbling "baldur is immune to all threats physical or magical".

Darrick Ayers kratos and atreus did kill thor's sons. So we know damn well thor is gonna wanna fight
At least Odin likes to keep it in his pants unlike the other one lol
This game needs to become a movie. I know the game already is like one, but I rather just watch scenes like these instead of actually playing the game.
@Odnamra Opup no one is worthy enough
We've all seen how they've done video game movies in the past. But the Sonic the Hedgehog movie pretty much broke this curse. Proving good video game movies can be made if they follow the lore and give respect to the characters.
@@herooflight7931 Detective Pikachu was good too
Still, I don't trust anyone to handle this.
*Know the ending.*
"You know my door is always open to you."
FFFUUUUUUCCCCKKKKK
Kratos will die in the next GoW. But guess what? According to Norse myth after Ragnarok Baldur escapes Helheim and returns to rule Asgard with his twin brother Hodr. So yup, we might visit Helheim's deepest parts and meet some "old friends" from Olympus, and maybe Baldur as well.
Prediction:
a) Kratos and Baldur will clash with each other in Hel and they'll both end up outside of it.
b) Kratos will find a way out and Baldur will follow him in secret.
Psychoangel
*BOI* :I started Ragnarok
Will see if your right brother in the next GOW 2 PS4.
You can't assume 'Kratos will die' that is your theory.
@@sebbydaking1014 isn't Kratos cursed not to die?
Imagine if Kratos and Freya had a time with each other and Odin found out about it
I mean freya could still fornicate with kratos after her son's death. That is if she wants to (she probably will not)
1:10 that “needless death” was how he ended up dying. None of that needed to happen, cus if she had never taken away Bauldur’s invulnerability, Bauldur would never grow to resent her and ultimately be killed by Kratos. So needless.
Dude what an absolute unit Freya is. Stuck her hand in the pot like nothing
Seeing kratos dawned in armor brings the feels from God of war 1, the extra content seeing their original designs for him.
3:00 "Boy... Go outside and take Mimir with you, I will return soon." as the camera pans away at both of them leaving the house:
3:10 that respect handshake tho
so fucking sick
When freya tells kratos about her son, I now see why she put that curse on him. Imagine giving birth and you're so happy and tearful at what you've brought into the world, only for someone to immediately walk in and say your new baby will die a horrible death and there's nothing you can do to prevent it. Freya is definitely selfish for cursing Baldur, but I understand why she did it
Goodbye asgard...you will extinct...
I'm gone
Kratos: You see to it that it does not.
While he didn't directly say it, I felt Kratos was more or less saying that he will see to it that this never happens again.
1:11 the camera man is earning that check 😂 the angles 🔥
"Golden boar, giant turtle..you sure have some interesting friends" now look who's doing the talking
definitely a family moment in this scene
"My door is always open for you"
:(
I hope it still is for Loki. Definitelly not for Kratos. Oh wait, I forgot, she isn't even at home anymore. Off to get her "fighting spirit" back.
@@MrDibara doubt she would get it back either Odin will kill her for not protecting baldur so he fears ragnarok phase 1 of baldur death
Funny how Freya admits her wrongs in terms of raising Baldur but later on when the curse in lifted she’s basically scared and terrified when he finally feels pain,
Basically implying tht whats she told Kratos was worthless and tht she’s literally bullshitting herself
She knows she made many mistakes, but she still doesn't want Baldur to die.
@@vitoriadias7990 and by not wanting him to die she gave baldur a needless death
Everything about this story is so rich and meaningful
I feel so sorry for Freya. Her story is just heart breaking.
Some aspects...She's not one to be underestimated - her magic powers are unmatched; granted she has her warrior's spirit back.
Definitely is, she mistakenly cursed her son with the foolish decision of "blessing" him with invulnerability - without knowing it would destroy his psyche entirely...
I still find it strange to see kratos so caring for someone
Gone is the one-dimensional, angry Kratos of old.
Yeah we are all used to seeing kratos being a badass and slay gods without sweat and bang alot of woman
He always been caring tho
I would totally ship Freya and Kratos.
I literally cried at this segment
This is honestly the perfect game for parents
The Boy is Loki...Frost Giant
Poor freya ☹️.But kratos didn’t have a better choices.
Kratos X Freya should become a couple
you barely see Kratos give that "thanks you, i owe you one" look to anyone, especially God, but sadly the ending just :(
BOI you can't just ask people why they live under a turtle!
2:12 "The boy has been cursed..."
You know what makes me so sad in this dialogue line?
Kratos is realizing that HE is the one who cursed his son with being a god, all of this is his own fault
How hard it must be for a parent to realize that they are damaging their child, that you ARE the cause of this... Specially since, Kratos has already lost a child before
Can't even phantom what Kratos is probably feeling in this scene
All that time spent in Hel, digging up the blades from the rubble of his past, when he could've just gone to the pharmacy for some Vicks Vapo Rub
My game crashed mid cutscene so thank god these videos exist
I think I figured out how that spell or potion worked. The Bridge Keeper was said by Mimir to make sure ‘that the dead stay dead’, to me that sounds like the role of Charon in Greece. As we remember from Chains of Olympus Charon decides if the souls are worthy to go to the underworld via his ferry. Using the heart that has these souls, Freya gave his soon to be deceased soul back. Or at least that’s my theory as Mimir was resurrected via different means, but Mimir is undead.
Everyone's praising Christopher Judge ... He deserves it ... But open up your years to hear the magic of Bear McCreary
huh, looks like they merged frigg and freya into one
On the side quest or notes I remember reading something about everything (we IRL) associate with Frigg was in the the GoW universe done by Freya.
Freya be like “wait where did you get those. The blades give them to me now.”
Kratos be like “No”
1:15 just notice the music is playing the stranger boss fight music hinting baldur is the son
I love how kratos talks of a curse because he himself and his dark past IS the curse.
That armor was not made for this cutscene.
João Ribeiro I was wondering that too??.....i just got that armor...after doing the last of the brothers quest....how did he get it?
Flying Nimbus doing all them first
The GOAT that impossible u can do the last quest
Hacking, new game+, or it was a premium item he bought.
Ng+
Since Kratos had Atreus, how many people knew of Calliope and his (Kratos') past?
Propa Way I'm not really a hundred percent sure? I would have said the same thing myself.
Thats the issue with how the older games handled the narrative and character development. The emotional hooks were often either underdeveloped or overshadowed and forgotten in between the spectacle and excess of the action. Calliope just felt like a plot device for Kratos more so than an actual person.
Probably Mimir
Why does no one learn the fucking lesson about oracles, THE PROPHECY HAPPENS ONLY IF YOU ACT UPON ITS WARNING, IF YOU IGNORE THEM THEY WONT HAPPEN, LIKE WHY DOES NO ONE LEARN ?
I just wish that one day kratos made a lot of red orb with freya
I hope Freya will forgive Kratos I don't want to see Freya died in the game
She did
Like when jormungand hide and avoid my titanomachy
Freya acting like a single mother in love with Kratos like what
Lol
Kratos wife just died man
*The Healing plays*
The travelers armor! How special it is! 😄
looks like to me that there is some sexual tension between Kratos and Freya in this scene especially at 3:01
well,, she hasn't had a good dicking for over 100 years.
Loool nope. There's mutual respect for both of them.
Raven24 you watch to much porn
Lol and if I'm not mistaken she looked a wee bit disappointed when Kratos only offered handshake.. Or an armshake.. Like she was expecting more than that 😆
@@ianalviz7944 If you look at his hand, it looks like he was going for the romantic chin grab and then decides on a handshake.
3 years ago here I am now : D
When I saw the trailer for ragnorock. I thought about this scene, its gonna be heartbreaking seeing of what happens to Freya.
thanks for the upload. i love your intro
Kratos and Freya have so much in common. Both former Gods and betrayed by their own Gods. Both seek to find a new life and forget the past. I'd say they would have made a great couple. And great parents to Atreus. Especially with scenes like this.
It's too bad that things had to end so badly between them. Now she's going to try to fight him and probably get her ass kicked
Freya it talking about Balder, who was shot by a arrow fired by his own blind brother
except in this one he just punched an 11 year old
Came here from theradbrad cuz he was uploading too slow. Def earned my sub
Literally went through Hel(l) and back to save his son.
You know what would be funny? If freya fucked up the healing spell in an attempt to hide baldur's weakness to atreus, and he starts babbling "baldur is immune to all threats physical or magical".
But atreus never knew baldurs weakness he found it out when baldur punched the mistletoe so maybe you got the names wrong lol
No story is ever simple.
