  • Photos of Mario Lanza are combined with those of Clark Gable and his wife, Carole Lombard, whose sudden death in a plane crash during WW 11 deeply saddened Gable for the rest of his life. Photos of Mario Lanza are from his film The Great Caruso” which is available for purchase from Turner Classic Movies.
"Among My Souvenirs" is a 1927 song with words by Edgar Leslie and music by Lawrence Wright.
“Clark Gable (February 1, 1901 - November 16, 1960) was an American film actor, often referred to as "The King of Hollywood" or just simply as "The King". Gable began his career as a stage actor and appeared as an extra in silent films between 1924 and 1926, and progressed to supporting roles with a few films for MGM in 1931. The next year he landed his first leading Hollywood role and became a leading man in more than 60 motion pictures over the next three decades.
Gable was arguably best known for his role as Rhett Butler in the epic Gone with the Wind (1939), for which he received his third nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor. He was also nominated for leading roles in Mutiny on the Bounty (1935), and he won for It Happened One Night (1934). Gable found further success commercially and critically with films like Red Dust (1932), Manhattan Melodrama (1934), San Francisco (1936), Saratoga (1937) Boom Town (1940), The Hucksters (1947) Homecoming (1948) and The Misfits (1961) which was his final screen appearance.
Gable appeared opposite some of the most popular actresses of the time: Joan Crawford, …Myrna Loy,… Jean Harlow …. He also starred with Lana Turner, … Norma Shearer and Ava Gardner …. Gable's final film, The Misfits (1961), united him with Marilyn Monroe (also in her last screen appearance). Gable is considered one of the most consistent box-office performers in history, appearing on Quigley Publishing's annual Top Ten Money Making Stars Poll sixteen times. He was named the seventh greatest male American screen legend by the American Film Institute….
    Marriage to Carole Lombard:
Gable's marriage in 1939 to his third wife, actress Carole Lombard (1908-1942), was the happiest period of his personal life. They met while filming 1932's No Man of Her Own, when Lombard was still married to actor William Powell, but their romance did not take off until 1936…. Gable thrived being around Lombard's youthful, charming, and frank personality, once stating, "You can trust that little screwball with your life or your hopes or your weaknesses, and she wouldn't even know how to think about letting you down." Lombard, for her part, seemed to gain personal stability and a contented home life that she had previously lacked. She taught herself how to hunt and fish and accompanied Gable on trips with his hunting companions….
On March 29, during a production break on Gone with the Wind, Gable and Lombard were married in Kingman, Arizona. They purchased a ranch previously owned by director Raoul Walsh in Encino, California and made it their home. They raised chickens, horses, and had a menagerie of cats and dogs.
On January 16, 1942, Lombard was a passenger on Trans-World Airlines Flight 3 with her mother and press agent Otto Winkler. She had just finished her 57th movie, To Be or Not to Be, and was on her way home from a successful war bond selling tour when the flight's DC-3 airliner crashed into a mountain near Las Vegas, Nevada, killing all 22 passengers aboard, including 15 servicemen en route to training in California. Gable flew to the crash site to claim the bodies of his wife, mother-in-law, and Winkler, who had been the best man at Gable's and Lombard's wedding.
Having lost twenty pounds since the tragedy, it was evident that Gable was emotionally and physically devastated by it. He would act in 27 more films and remarry twice more. ‘But he was never the same,’ said Esther Williams. ‘He had been devastated by Carole's death.’ ” (Above information is from: en.wikipedia.or...)

Pedro, mario sings now with the angels, his fabulous singing, with so much feeling and emotion, makes you want to cry, that you can listen to such a beautiful voice that somebody once possessed. best regards Louie Vaccaro, member mario lanza institute, philadelphia, for more than 30 years, and was good friends with marios son Damon Lanza.

Who else but Mario Lanza could sing this with such passion? He was the most versatile tenor of all time. He sang lyric opera magnificently as he did popular songs; perform on the stage and screen, radio and television. There has never been anyone like him before or after who also had an amazing influence on singers and performers everywhere. A new, bestselling book, “A KID FROM PHILADELPHIA, MARIO LANZA, THE VOICE OF THE POETS,” is a wonderful homage to one of the greatest entertainers of all time. It is a must for anyone who loves Lanza and great music and great voices

freddie cocozza, aka mario lanza was the greatest tenor that ever lived!! he sang with so much feeling and emotion,he could actually make you feel the song he was singing!, make you get emotional, almost make you wanna cry! his beautiful voice touched your heart with shear beauty!.. I was good friends with marios son damon, who sadly passed away at an early age. and also best friends with marios health trainer, over at mgm studios in hollywood, terry robinson, who became best friends with mario, and his family. mario called terry his brother, they were so close. when mario died, 9 months later, his wife passed away, she didnt want to live anymore. terry robinson legally adopted his 4 children , and raised them in tribute to mario. terry was a true humanitarian. god bless all of them in heaven, may they rest in peace. all the best Louie Vaccaro, tenor, las vegas.

Lanza fans live in memory of Lanza's beautiful songs and interpretations. It seemed as if his knowledge for singing the American songs was innate and not learned. He reached the feelings and the hearts of millions of people. R.I.P.

Thanks so much. I just love the beautiful voce of Mario Lanza. Thank you also for the pictures of. Carol Lombard and Clark Gable-two very special people but a tragic ending when she was killed in a plane crash. Just the same, you have done a great job of melding the gorgeous music and the pictures of these three special stars-a great accomplishment. Wonderful!

You are very sweet. Thank you so much for your most kind words. They are truly appreciated. Mario sings everything from the depths of his heart. I was afraid that presenting his touching singing of this song would bring tears to my viewers' eyes. Especially to Gable and Lombard fans who know about the great loss to Gable of his loving wife. Gable, especially, was and still is, so beloved by his myriad of fans. When I heard Mario singing this song about memories and tragic loss, Gable's great sudden and unexpected loss of his dear wife came to mind. Being a fan of Gable myself, Mario's singing of this song brought me to the brink of tears.Mario's voice is exceptional, but the deep emotion he brings from his heart to his singing is extremely exceptional.Thank you again for your kind words.Kindest Regards,Sandra

Thank you Sandra I and my two internet friends one from Russia and the other from Buffalo love Mario and try to find anything about this suberb man. I posted to you an article about a c, d. which was made in 1958 of a concert he did in Royal Albert Hall in London, England as is available from a man named Sam Samuelson. It is performed by Mario and his conductor Calinocos and is superb where Mario does an intimate job singing and joking to his audience who sound like they love Mario as do we. At the end the audience stamps their feet with approval. It is available at Amazon.com in the U.S.A. but I couldn't get it in Canada so I wrote to this Sam to order it. The lady's name is Rose and her email address is SrSoapFan-I think that is correct and already received her c.d. I hope this is of interest to you. Regards.

There's always a true love in someone's life and Carole Lombard and Clark Gable were one couple who like other actors and actresses like humpty bogart: laural Bacall and Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy : with others who loved each other with heart and emotion, who lived together till old age or died so young like Carole Lombard who Clark Gable never got over or forgot her, although he remarried 3times but his true love was Carole, rest in peace to all those great actors and actresses amen 😘💟💏☀️🌈🌹💐🌷🌸🌻

      Irina,
In English, you wrote, "Great performers with the great tenor voice .... - it's amazing!" The photos of Clark Gable and his wife Carole Lombard before and after her death bring back memories to those of us who are Gable and Lombard fans. The touching emotion with which Mario sings this song adds to our feeling the great sorrow that Gable experienced. I have read that Gable was never the same after his great loss.
      Thank you for your comment.

      Sandra
