    I started with Bujinkan, then began Tan Tien Tschuan, Tai Chi and a bit of Karate, Taekwondo and even Aikido and Judo- now I am learning Wing Chun.
    What I learned is that every style has its benefits and the kombination is the cherry on the cake for me. (For example when I teach my fellow practitioners some wrist locks- comes in very handy)
    Bujinkan is my root but what blooms out of it has varied so far that I lost track somehow- obivously it works in Chi Sao and Lat Sau :)

      @@HungGarEarthBender Interesting perspective. I'm not sure if I would agree. I think it depends on how comfortable they are in representing certain styles as well as respecting the wishes of those who taught them the particular forms. I have mixed feelings on the subject, so I'm down for discussion. But, to give some context my teacher cares a lot more about "secrets" to the point that I'm not supposed to even practice certain sets and exercises in view of certain other students in class. So, I'm in a situation where openness is basically not allowed and you have to pay attention to pecking order and who's more on in the inside and more on the outside. *shrug*

    I do not practice or know a lot about "Cha Quan", but I would have thought that the most popular form in the style would be the "Tan Tui", as supposedly the whole stlye has been developed out of that form.

    • @lohan570
      @lohan570 4 года назад +2

      Hmmm, you could make a really good argument for Tan Tui! Maybe that should be it’s own video 🤔🤔

      Tan Tui is very practical. Very effective. I have used moves of Tan Tui myself in... I have used it. But I know the Jing Mo 12 Road Tan Tui. Anyway great video, very good information.

      @@CarlosCruz-mw4hp I know. Would you be interested in sharing your interpretation of the Tan Tui movements? My Kung Fu Group for instance has interpreted most movements as takedowns and chain wrestling techniques besides road 2, 5, 7, of course.
      For example in road 1 you use the first movement to trap your opponent's right arm with your own right arm and apply an elbow lock, then you step behind him and push the trapped arm down. When you then do the typical long fist "punch" you would actually be pushing the opponent over your leg. If the opponent blocks your arm you would use your elbow to push and if the opponent then slips out of your elbow push you then trap his left arm with your left arm and use your right fist to push him over your leg.
      And then if the opponent steps back you just follow him and step behind him again and repeat the technique combination on the other side.

      Nytro Dralyg
      They can be used as punches and kicks, but in my experience, it’s not very practical. But my kung fu brother has done it in tournaments he is effective with road 1, 2, and 10.
      In my experience, I use them as take downs. 2 it’s a bit tricky. As you wrap your “kicking” leg on your opponents leg and the arms use the push and pull concept. I used it once. Brought someone down. I used 11 once on some guy trying to revisit. That was the first time I used Tan Tui. They step forward it works, they retreat I follow or step through. It’s not like I picked what road to use, the technique just comes out. I find out what road I did after the event it’s done.
      Which has me wondering how to make Gong Li Quan practical. I’m not too sure about that one.

      Songshan Shaolin, Northern Shaolin and Cha Quan have a lot of common ancestry so I can definitely see how those three look a like. Hung Kuen and Wing Chun have very distinctive looks. What this says to me is that China is vast in area and history and as such, Chinese martial arts change gradually from region to region. Hung Kuen and Choy Lay Fut, while distinctive in their own rights are going to have a number of techniques that look rather similar. Wing Chun will look similar to other "close quarters" styles such as Bak Mei or Dragon style. Every style I mentioned in this list has a pretty direct connection to the Shaolin Temple

      Hung Gar is an example of southern shaolin. They wanted the fire kingdom to be distinct from the earth kingdom so they went with northern shaolin.
