    Thank you for your kindness in sharing this lovely pattern with us. I happened by accident upon RUclips patterns for shrugs made from a single large granny square but your pattern is so much prettier and the scalloped edge is gorgeous. I can't wait to buy some yarn and try it out. Your video is easy to follow, thank you again. xx

    Lovely pattern and I plan to make it with yarn you used! Do you think it would work up well with lion brand Mandala yarn which is a 3 weight acrylic? Not sure how to adjust for size other than get chain to width you use knowing it will be smaller stitches overall. Just get the rectangle the your measurement, correct? This size yarn suggests a 5 mm hook, so use a 6 mm?

    • @JewelsandJones
      @JewelsandJones  3 года назад +1

      Hi, thank you so much! Yes, I think it will work well with Lion Brand Mandala yarn and I would make sure that your rectangle measures correctly. So the same length + width. You might have to adjust your chain count if you go up a hook size. I hope this helps, but let me know if you need more help.

    I love this pattern and cannot wait to try it. Thank you for you clear instructions! I am slightly struggling with the yarn substitution, if you could help me, please. I understand that number 4 is a medium yard and it is recommended to use a 6.5mm hook. You are using a much smaller one. Is that on purpose??
    I would like to use wool (and I live in the Netherlands so need to substitute) but I am confused what I can use. Shall I choose a yarn that recommends a 6.5mm hook and then use a smaller one like you do? Or shall I just get yarn suitable for 5mm hook?? Thank you!

    • @JewelsandJones
      @JewelsandJones  3 года назад +2

      Hi, thank you for your question. I tend to crochet more on the looser side, so I always have to go down one to one half of a hook size (so totally on purpose). For this pattern, I would recommend choosing a yarn that requires the 6.5mm hook. If you find that the stitch is coming out very big and loose, drop down a hook size. You can always make the gauge swatch as well. I hope this helps, but please let me know if you need more help. By the way, I love the Netherlands! I grew up there and go back to visit once a year.

    Love this pattern, and am working on it now. But I’m a little confused about the measurements of 32 1/2” W x 42”L. Is the W measurement from the shoulder down, & L measurement from fingertip to fingertip? The yarn I’m using is more of a #3 weight and I had to chain a significant amount more to get 42”.

    • @JewelsandJones
      @JewelsandJones  3 года назад +2

      Thank you so much! Yes, so the 42" is how long the garment is and 321/2 " is how wide it is. I think the reason you had to chain more is because of the weight of the yarn, sometimes this can change the stitch count. As long as your ending measurements are correct it should turn out good. This design is also meant to be very slouchy and oversized. I hope this helps, but please let me know if you need more help. :)

Also, would the length of the shrug depend on the rows that are made? I am only 5'3" tall.

    • @JewelsandJones
      @JewelsandJones  2 года назад +3

      Hi there! Welcome to Crochet :) Thank you so much for giving my pattern a try. I would measure from tip to tip (so measure the length right above your risk, from right side to left side). Then you want to go ahead and see how many chains you get in one inch, multiply that by your measurement (tip to tip). Whatever number you get, make sure its a multiple of 4. So if you're off by one or even two, add those additional chains. You might have to adjust your row count for the length of the shrug. So I would measure from shoulder to hip. After that's done, you just want to follow the pattern as is. I hope this helps, but let me know if you need any more help!

      Hi, thank you so much! Yes, I'm using a number 4 worsted weight yarn. If you want to make it bigger, I would just increase the amount of rows for the shrug. As far as sizing goes, its meant to be an oversized M/L shrug. I really wanted this shrug to be comfy and flowy. I hope this helps :) you can always check the blog post out too, link in the description box.

      Hi there, yes the 5.5 inches is for the armhole. You could go up half an inch and do a 6.0" arm hole. It shouldn't have to much of an affect on the shrug. I hope this helps, but let me know if you have any other questions! :)

    • @JewelsandJones

      Hi there, you can chain 1 and add a single crochet border to the rectangle before folding the edges and seaming the sides together. I also used this stitch for a blanket and added a puff stitch border. You could add a puff stitch border, but I would recommend making the shrug and adding the border last. Hi there, I'm thinking you may have sewed it on the wrong side. So you want the foundation row to be the bottom, and the wavy end on top. This way when you fold it in on the sides the sleeves are the same. You could also make a puff stitch border around your shrug and the armholes.
