My own camcorder (HF R800 and HF R400) cost about 2X the price you gave for the one you reviewed. Mine will zoom pretty good without the long lens. Mine will do fair close ups, but I have to move the camera to just the right distance to get focus. If I stand too close to an object. it won't go to focus

Well, I had wanted to use this to record watercolor videos, but I guess this would only be good for long-distance stuff.

thank you for posting this. I have ordered one of these cameras from amazon to see if it will be useful for me. I would have liked to see how accurately the camera would perform with zoom, close up, etc. while mounted on a tripod, but all in all, great video, very informative
It wasn't horrible, the video looked GoPro ish.. The audio sucked.. But the refresh rate when you zoomed it seems ok.. I liked the user interface. Reminds me of apple products.. Can you use a external mic with it? I think if it would last a long time and cost around $50 it would make for a good backup or second camera.. Or a camera to set close to a explosion or target
No, you can't use a microphone with it... kind of sucks

Can it focus on close objects if the object takes up the whole screen. Even expensive cams take time to focus on a close objects if most of the background is far away.

You should be able to screw off the wide angle lens from the macro lens, then you can use the macro lens for close up images and the two together for wide angle.
I think it's pretty goodi might actually buy one in 2018

Well, I figured out that Besteker sells a "macro lense", 37mm thread, purported to attach to a z18,...for close up viewing. I think the video quality is fine. I recently bought the z18, slightly used, came with the two lenses of wide and telephoto, the 30 fps does great, due to the Sony Sensor onboard. I really liked your review, ....a big thumbs up from me. I feel the "30fps" is key here, and worth buying one of these for $100, now that I own one. For my intended purposes, it is defintely doing fine, and the audio doesn't figure in to what I am doing with mine. Later on, sure, I'll buy a more expensive camcorder like any normal person,...IF I end up having the need.

Thanks,...and an update, come to find out I do indeed have the z18 plus included "wide angle lense" same as I saw for $44 on amazon.com(no need to purchase another besteker wide angle lense now), but apparently it does indeed screw in half,...the bottom half is used as a macro lense adapter, meaning filming very close like an inch or so, and that comes in very handy if I want to take macro photographs, or just filming small things up close, like markings or stampings on a collectible item I might want to sell online on auction.

Thanks for the review, I (was) going to give this a shot but it's no good for RUclips as I will be using it primarily for product reviews and those close -ups look horrible!

My Samsung S5 is better, just add the new Rodes Smart phone mic for 50 bucks and you can turn your smart phone into an excellent video recording device. And let's face it, most people already have a good quality phone so there you go!

The shots look decent. They look a bit better than my old Samsung digital compact cameras I used to own many years ago. The night shots look to perform better than the Samsung. It also reminds me of how videos used to look like recorded on tape, so it kinda has that tape vibe to it that some may like for effect.
I have no idea what magnification the lense zoomed into ,, so tricky to judge the results.
Macro should be up close ,, 1-2 centimetres from object.

This camera do a very unsharp footage, when you filmed yourself just looked like my cellphone that cost around the same and do so much more. Canon camcorders cost far more, but can get you very close to extremely high zooms with an easy focus. And the image quality is simply far better.

Im trying to record with camera but every time I press the button it says "storage media" it even happens when I try to record can help me and tell me whats going on I bought it and it doesn't record

i think the macro lens is for those up close shots. just a thought.
That's the idea...but you can't get it close to anything coz it doesn't focus and it looks all blurry...the closer you get the blurrier it gets

The 2 clips look like the ones for the monoscopes for more optical zoom.
I don't know what they look like...but the quality was far from being useful with any kind of zoom :)

it takes 3-4 days after it ships. I usually pay around $20-25 per every box when it comes by dhl. They declare a low value on the item but DHL charges brokerage fees

i just bought one and its a complete disastor ..... it said it had anti shake well it doesnt it said it had several definition well it doesnt these are not even on the menu......or the setup ............ i took some simple video and the playback was so shaky it made me dizzy.... the focus is terrible......i would stay away from buying one........
Like with ANY zoom lens you need to have the camera on a tripod, love your videos thanks for the review
I would still skip this camera :) not to mention that if i zoom with any real camcorder, it doesn't have to be on a tripod, the stabilization is that good
Hello all, I too purchased this camera and i must say as well it is not as they described it in quality. The features are quite cool as with the touch screen and all but the video quality is far less than you would expect. Very motion sensitive to blurring, not focused very well and the zoom is not all that. I too and not impressed. I have used key chain cameras with better video quality. Obviously the add videos are not authentic from this camera
like it but the audio sucks

Camcoder VS DSLR
What is the best option to make RUclips Videos?
Not all DSLR can record good video. They don't know where to focus. For example...a $7000 Canon D1 DSLR is useless for any videos. I personally prefer the camcorders because of the smooth electronic zoom and I won't be getting anything but a camcorder for making youtube videos

supposedly this company has a new camcorder coming out and they will send a review unit
We hope it works and it doesn't suck. Camcorders also have smaller sensors than DSLR or digital cameras. So it would probably be a little bit bad at video or photo quality. Also, microphones on camcorders are bad.

Its an old discontinued Aiptek camera but they still use the same innards camcorder made by Aiptek, the one you just reviewed is better lol. You will waste your time if you do..

Yeah you never know sometimes. These cameras are popular coz they have night vison, Sony stopped doing night vision on there camcorders so these popular now coz of that!

+Financial turmoil explained im glad you found it useful. For the price it's ok, but it really depends what you plan on using it for. For my purposes it wouldn't be any good, but for many other people that don't make product reviews it may be good
I'd probably buy a used Sony, Canon, JVC or Panasonic 1080 camera instead. If you buy one that is >5 years old, you can find them for about the same price as this (ebay).

Sorry, but i'v been in the industry sense 1993 although my channel here is a casual one, today I have paying clients and those video are not casual. That said you misrepresented that camera by poor operation and intent. Perhaps not intentionally but you did miss this one. that's all. The far thing to do is demonstrate how to get the best out of it and demonstrate the drawbacks. and not fabricate or just fail the drawbacks like you did. It's just too easy to see the error. relax and collect your self.

Your camera cost $800 :o Well the $100 camcorder is not impressive at all. Very bad focusing and image/video quality (it seemed like viewing a video at 240/360p). To my opinion, it is better to get a used Panasonic mirrorless camera that costs below $100 nowadays.
Oh yeah, even with the phone you would get better results. I have a plan for a $2k camera in March 2017 :D
