- Tom and Mark check out this awesome 1963 Gibson EB 3.
This is a bass that is full of vibe - This is very much a players bass that has been played and used. This being a 1963 model, it is from the 3rd year of production and it is a great piece of guitar history.
The bass features a non original humbucker in the neck , original mini humbucker pickup at the bridge and a varitone knob to switch between the tones.
I must add the that the humbucker in this guitar is not original - the original was swapped out for a DiMarzio 6-string electric guitar humbucker. The pickup selector nob has also been replaced.
It has obviously had some body damage in the past , Like I said above this is a players bass . Apart from this, the bass and all wear and tear is all original.

i dream this bass every day...
@Josiah Cohen yea, have been using KaldroStream for months myself :D
Loved it instantly, when I heard one up close , on every conceivable setting. And live ?? In the hands of Jack-it put foolish ideas in my head.He left me in a cloud of dust , with my fingers bleeding..But just couldn't afford one - so I manged to spend my entire summers wages ,pumping gas as a 16 year old , for an EB-O. pining for one day having the other pickup added and trim pot etc. My parents were so pissed they refused to help out.Didn't even have money for an amp.Had to borrow a friend's his god awful Peavey with a single 18.
Gorgeous bass. Always loved the EB3. The bridge pickup is the sound I love. Some Jaco Pastorius stuff would soujd incredible on it.
Truth be told, from the old "Those Were the Days" website before it got tooken down, Jack's basses on stage were set to the #2 setting.
Nice exhibition. EB-3's rule. Y'all forgot to mention Jim Lea (of Slade) as a famous EB-3 player, though. :-) He made his roar with a pick and Hiwatts…. Looks like a great bass, I imagine it sold fairly quickly.
Slade sound was awesome.. plus Andy Fraser from Free
Used to the shortscale now and love it.
...I love the way they fink
As I had said before
people resented Gibson
basses because of their
unique tone.
I was expecting that intro❤
Beautiful 😍 !!!
Incredible demo!
Thanks !!
Loving that RD
nice bass playing !!
Never mind about that muffled four stringer! The RD is the star of the show, it sounds magnificent!
Nice bass smooth playing on Badge.
Sweet RD
2:01 as a Brazilian, I appreciate these coments
Gorgeous descending run at 0:26 😎
That's absolutely crazy, the neck pick up sounds just like an upright (kind of) and bridge sounds like a modern active bass. I think that part of the mystique for those bass is how weird and distinct they sound.
Badge by cream is the song I should know it was my wedding song
I found one this morning on Facebook Marketplace - it looks identical to this, although the Varitone switch is round, not a chicken-head knob. Something unique about this particular one is also on the rear headstock it has three letters in the middle "USN." The serial number is 700124. Can you tell me anything about this? It has 2 vol controls, two tone controls and like I said, a Varitone knob.
Jack played a 6 string bass in Badge
The EB3 flatwounds look very heavy. Can you say the make and gauges please?
Also, if the bass is for sale, what price?
One just went on in excellent shape in my area near Toronto. Look up kijiji ontario gibson eb 3 1971.... very cool
Oh and it's the rarer slotted headstock with pearl logo and side grovers. Gibson embossed covers as well. It's a beauty .....
I HAVE A 1968 GIBSON THUNDERBIRD BASS, TURQUOISE COLOR. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS BASS? HOPE YOU CAN REVIEW THIS BASS. THANKS!
What's the song at the intro please?
Badge by Cream .
I prefer an Epiphone EB3
Aren't those pretty neck heavy?
@@possibly8180 I’ve never played one so I don’t know. I’ll get one in the future along with an Epiphone Rivoli
Strings?
D'Addario Chromes
Jack was, since the Question of Time album, using SIT round wounds, in a lighter gauge on his Warwick to match with the Hughes/Kettner Fortress pre amp, 4x 12 Hartke aluminum drivers in the cabinets
Jack Bruce used a 1964 and later a 1966.
...with round wound strings.More bite.
no solo :(
ruclips.net/video/sriQTnOrScI/видео.html --- he should take this bass!!!
I've got an EB3 but the shortscale neck is a pain.
It's a shame they sound as shitty as they do. It took Gibson until the early 70s before they had a bass that could actually compete with Fender with the Ripper. I mean, there's definitely a certain charm to the EB series and they could occasionally be very appropriate tonally, but none of them could 'do it all' like a Precision, Jazz or even a Mustang.
The bridge pickup personally sounds pretty good to me
..yeah..you better tell Jack that. Oh, that's right. He's gone.
