There is nothing healthy about ramadan. Intermittent fastng is usually done by night. and inhibiting yourself from eating breakfast. What muslims do is they eat a shi load of food at 3 am in the morning and then a shi load of food when the sun sets. There is absolutely 0 benefits to that.
Incorporating the fasting. And up my meat consumption. Lower carbs. Also a fast paced 1 hour walk a day. I lost 50+ pounds. Changed my life. Also the discipline u learn from the fasting. Is worth it alone.

I'm following dr. Eric's health advices for the last three years. I'm a cancer survivor and (was) prediabetic. Honestly, he had saved my life, and I'm sure, I'm not the only one.
I’ve been doing IF since 2017, though have only done OMAD sporadically. I enjoy pie, chocolate, ice cream, and potato chips or whatever else I feel on the weekends, never overindulging. I do love pork rinds 😁. I’m 5’9”, 155lbs, and will be turning 48 in calendar years this late September yet I still get mistaken for being in my mid-late 20s repeatedly. Never been over 165lbs at any point. My Southeast Asian roots may play a part (I think being healthy doesn’t boil to doing just one thing… it’s a wholistic multifaceted approach that connects Mind, Body, Emotions/Spirit). Just wanted to say it’s cool to hear the positive effects of human growth hormone resulting from consistent IF. It’s clearly working 😚👌
But there is a catch here - what use is elevated levels of growth hormone if you are low on amino acids in the blood (needed to build muscle) if you fast for more than 12 hours? Or am I missing something here? Can you all thumb this comment up so that Eric might see it?
I mean low on amino acids while you are in the fast phase. As far as I know, the body does not release amino acids into the blood like it does with glucose from the liver during a fast. Or does it not matter that amino acids are low in the blood during the fast phase as long as the body gets sufficient protein intake over a 24 hour cycle? This is what I would like Eric to answer @@mrstoner2udude799
Thank you Dr Berg ... not only to boost growth hormones, but it also contributes a lot to our well-being ... "Fasting" is the key to everything. Period !!
I have a question. Is he saying we shouldnt be eating for 20 hours and then in the remaining 4 hours we can eat? Like, I can eat at any given time but for the rest of the time I should be fasting? correct?
From a islamic point of view (Idk if you care but it may help some): the best fast outside the month of Ramadan is the "fast of the prophet David" as the prophet SWS quilified it and it's fasting 1 day and not fasting one day. Btw our rule of fasting is this: not eating, drinking, have intimicy from dusk(Fajr prayer) to dawn(Maghrib prayer).
You don’t eat for 16 hours (preferably 20 hours). You eat sensibly during a window of 4 hours (for 20 hr IF). His example is a meal at 1 pm, then one more around 4 or 5 pm. On other videos he gives suggestions on what you should eat for your meals.
Thank you for these videos. I had a difficult time after quitting smoking. I gained a lot of weight and started having insulin resistance symptoms. I did keto and IF and lost 40lbs so far and i feel great! 👍💙

@@bigal8976 1 year late reply but your body just adapts really. Your first meal should always be zero carbs and lots of protein. If you're eating once a day your body does all its miraculous things, the key is to "work up" to your goal. If you've been eating 3 meals a day for years, don't change things up too fast. It does increase 2000%, but isn't that because GH also helps with energy metabolism? It is well established that exercise induced GH doesn't cause anabolism any more than what you would expect from intense exercise. But I do know eating less is good for longevity.
@@amirhorev4779 It means the GH is not used for its function of preserving youth, for that exogenous use is needed. Bodybuilders know that training secretes GH, but also that it doesn't mean anything towards building muscle, research shows that exercise induced GH doesn't mean more growth. It just aids energy metabolism and preservation. So you increase your "anti-aging hormone", but it doesn't cause anti-aging under the circumstances your body is in, unless you administer it exogenously.
Jaw drop! If you compare current videos to some years back, you can’t help but notice that Dr. and Mrs. Berg look like they’re getting younger and younger. I agree with this to a point (I love fasting & occasionally do 24-40 hour fasts).. buuut most of the fasting science now seems to say it's not great to do the same thing every day (playing with your eating window apparently keeps the body guessing!)! Also, the pros are now saying that, especially as we age, we need more protein.. and that's hard to achieve in a very small eating window! Fasting makes ya feel awesome though.. so much energy n more mentally alert!! 💪😍

I finished my first 33 hour fast last week; the last 8 hours where rough, probably due to mineral deficiency. I ordered your multivitamins for 50+, received them the next day and feel amazing. It makes so much sense. The body is a machine and needs to be rested from digestion for repairs! I was also carnivore and went keto and stopped cheating, took all sugar out of my diet. No more sweet coffee and gluten free toast. I’m learning to like black coffee 😂
People always say they went keto/carnivore and cut out all crap and feel great. So was it the meat or cut your all the crap. Plenty feel great on a vegan, healthy fat cut all crap diet too., it is believed that eating a little all day spikes insulin over and over and can lead to becoming insulin resistant which is one way and the body needs time to rest and repair in between eating. The other way we become insulin resistant is from any bottled oil. Stop all the oil. Our ancestors didn't go around drinking pure oil. Dr fuhrman discusses the alternative to keto/carnivore. Some eat for their blood type and others for their compassion. Keto didnt wirk long term for me. But cutting out all processed food was a side benefit. I eas still insulin resistant despite losing the weight. And fuhrman discusses the oil from a bottle is too pure, fatty live and organs. It clogs. Salt is already in our food and plenty of it. It is corrosive to the vessels and can cause hemorogic stroke.

I really think that slim people should think twice before fasting. I skipped the tea I used to have at 4pm and reduced carbs and the end product was a skeleton. So beware!
Yes..I weigh 8st ..I have to keep a close eye on my weight to maintain that.. if I skip meals I lose weight ... there would be nothing left of me if I practiced fasting..
This is the comment I've been looking for! These protocols don't work for everyone. Not only is it not realistic if you actually work for a living, but if you have a high metabolism already and are doing some of these protocols (cold plunge) you'll likely make yourself sick 😷
Absolutely, I am petite size 8, I fast overnight..12/14 hrs..but nothing more, lose weight too quickly. Also have hereditary gilbert syndrom and fasting actually makes me feel pretty ill.
A friend of mine, an amateur bodybuilder, said one time "I only eat chocolate or any other form of candy at sunday, and just a small ammount". Now, I learnt that too much sugar inhibits GH hormone. He was right, when I ate candy, chocolate and so on, the other day my body is completely weird -- I am those kind of people who suffer to gain and mantain weight.. Now I know who is the villain: too much sugar and my own decisions.
The thing that helps motivate me is reminding myself where I landed after making 1000 bad choices and enjoying where I end up on the road to making 1000 good ones. Also little baby Jesus motivates me, but he gives me great advice.
Totally agree with him. My parents introduced all their children to fasting since we were little. My longest fasting is 22-24 hrs to help mother cells (stem cells) to regenerate. My last fasting was 40 days from May to June 2024. I recommend adding amino acids, creatine, and good quality vitamins + exercise to prevent muscle loss, the no fasting hrs try to add sardines to the diet to help produce collagen. Sardines are precursors of collagen, drink room to warm temperature water for a better liver detox, and optional function, don't forget to break fasting with a healthy, conscious whole food meal, much love to all 🩷
I’ve literally never felt better then when I fasted for three days. I never wanted to eat again I felt so good. Now, years later I feel like crap all the time. I think this is the video I needed to see. Thanks Doc.
People with thyroid problems and people with chronically high cortisol levels (usually people with anxiety) should be careful with fasting, it's not always good for them
You know I was really good at never eating I kept putting on pounds until my friend who the doctor told me to start eating all the time then I lost the weight and yes I have to take a Thyroid supplement
It's really difficult to eat everything you're supposed in that timeframe. I'm getting stronger from lifting weights but I'm not gaining any muscle mass.
Keto makes this pretty easy. Fats like oil, butter, creams and cheese can get you there pretty fast. I'm on one meal a day IF and an example of my dinner is usually 1lb of steak cooked in 1 tbsp of avocado oil, 2 to 3 servings of cheese, 3 eggs made with 1 tbsp of butter, 2 to 3 servings of sour cream, salsa, then I will drink a protein shake 2 scoops for dessert made with either almond milk or no sugar whole milk yogurt plus 2 tbsp of peanut/almond butter. It is tough to get down the first 2 weeks but after that it's pretty easy.

Yes!! 🥰🌟 so helpful, little doses of health!
👍yes , good question
Why would you assume you'll be low in Aminos?
I mean low on amino acids while you are in the fast phase. As far as I know, the body does not release amino acids into the blood like it does with glucose from the liver during a fast.
Or does it not matter that amino acids are low in the blood during the fast phase as long as the body gets sufficient protein intake over a 24 hour cycle? This is what I would like Eric to answer @@mrstoner2udude799
Just do weight training and eat “nutritiously” when you do eat, so you don’t become deficient.
That still does not answer my question in the post above your post@@TrongNguyen-ky6wy

I have a question. Is he saying we shouldnt be eating for 20 hours and then in the remaining 4 hours we can eat? Like, I can eat at any given time but for the rest of the time I should be fasting? correct?
@@ффф-з7и yes

Increase your Growth Hormone (main *anti-aging* hormone) by doing I.F.
Intense exercise increases GH by 450%
I.F. 20 hours = increases GH by 2,000%
(Eating window of 4 hours.)
It does increase 2000%, but isn't that because GH also helps with energy metabolism? It is well established that exercise induced GH doesn't cause anabolism any more than what you would expect from intense exercise.
But I do know eating less is good for longevity.
@@eustacebagge3869 Your comment makes no sense
@@amirhorev4779 agreed
@@amirhorev4779 It means the GH is not used for its function of preserving youth, for that exogenous use is needed.
Bodybuilders know that training secretes GH, but also that it doesn't mean anything towards building muscle, research shows that exercise induced GH doesn't mean more growth. It just aids energy metabolism and preservation.
So you increase your "anti-aging hormone", but it doesn't cause anti-aging under the circumstances your body is in, unless you administer it exogenously.
Yeah, try lifting weights and getting 200+ G of protein a day in a four hour period and see how long that lasts.

Totally agree with him. My parents introduced all their children to fasting since we were little. My longest fasting is 22-24 hrs to help mother cells (stem cells) to regenerate. My last fasting was 40 days from May to June 2024. Sardines are precursors of collagen, drink room to warm temperature water for a better liver detox, and optional function, don't forget to break fasting with a healthy, conscious whole food meal, much love to all 🩷

No problem. Glad to remind you about fasting. Take care.
Dr Berg, how can children (under the age of 15) increase their growth hormone?
Thanks for your life changing videos!
@Roopa Ram lot of love and understanding
Children have enough growth hormone & IF is not for growing children or teens . It’s good however not to snack & have 4-5 hours between meals .
People with thyroid problems and people with chronically high cortisol levels (usually people with anxiety) should be careful with fasting, it's not always good for them
It depends on why they even have those thyroid issues and high cortisol levels to begin with.
You know I was really good at never eating I kept putting on pounds until my friend who the doctor told me to start eating all the time then I lost the weight and yes I have to take a Thyroid supplement
450% is pretty good too
It Only lasts for 2 hours
👏👏SUCH A VALUEABLE TIP!! THANK YOU🙏🏽BLESSINGS ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
That's a huge amount of calories and protein you have squeeze in if you lift weights.
@@jway9097 you realize that’s over a pound of steak, every day inside of a 4 hour period right? There’s no enjoying that, it’s work to eat like that.
It's really difficult to eat everything you're supposed in that timeframe. I'm getting stronger from lifting weights but I'm not gaining any muscle mass.
Don't need to eat that much to grow muscle
@@warpartyattheoutpost4987 you need more eggs, the runnier the better. everyday- dr eric berg eats like 5-6
Oh and I beat corona with your help and no meds … after I had already had Lyme which that I took your advice and did the antibiotic lol…. Thank god and thank god for men like you sir!
And most of all with the fathers help
The thing i worry about is weight loss. I'm desperately trying to gain weight since early teens. Is it possible to loose even more weight on IF?
You can gain weight if you eat in a caloric surplus it doesn't matter when you eat just how much you eat
Is that good for teens?
Thank you doctor Berg for your valuable video. 👍
Very glad to be of help.
Could be the reason why I look 25 when I'm actually 32 now. I usually eat late sometimes I eat dinner then the following day I'm gonna eat in the afternoon. I do this maybe once a week or once a month.
It shows. I was watching a video of you several years ago and you look younger now than you did back then.
he looks good for his age, better than 99% of people his age but he looked better years ago.....he's actually slowly starting to look a little older right now
@@BRIANDER100 Dang! You mean you really can't stop time? :)
The amplitude and frequency of GH-secretory pulses are regulated by a complex array of external and internal stimuli including age, gender, menstrual cycle phase, pubertal status, nutrition, sleep, body composition and exercise.

@@sinanengin5756 This is as simple as it gets, you may not understand.

@@sinanengin5756 pretty much everything he mentioned affect it....which means fasting and diet might be a component but not to a large percentage...
Does a blood test show the GH?
Can we drink water in between?
The man of the hour 💚
Cat bites its tail when it comes to muscle growth because without regular leucine consumption muscle protein synthesis will be low when fasting for so long...
