A pure vocal talent that never needed the touch of auto-tune.
This really sounds very different from Dusty's version so I don't know why people even try to compare. They are just so different in their interpretations. Both are beautiful in their own ways. Music, like life, does not have to be an either or situation.
+Mondez Durden True. Opinions man...
In my, it should be alot faster than the original. Aretha can kick ass with her voice. Would blow you away.
With Dusty and Aretha you are so right. Both versions are different and both are great interpretations. I'm sure each woman loved the other woman's version.
You stated it so well. Thank you for your intelligent and insightful comment.
I am not quite getting the gist of this interpretation though, it’s not convincing me me even with all the big runs and belting, it sounded to me like she insisted it had to be different from the original and did everything differently but it didn’t come together. Maybe if she sang the original interpretation of a growing explosion of the secret love with this son of a preacher man, just with her voice i think it would sound good. She had to present it differently I guess in her mind, but it didn’t come together for me or convince me of this secret passion with billy ray
Totally agree
Amazing. I love the way she turns it into a church song.
I love her version.....gives me chills!
Yes the best.
I feel like when Aretha sings the word "Hallelujah", God smiles.
Oh man, the Queen of soul herself, what a great song and a lovely voice. Whoa boy!!!!!
Aretha was offered this song prior to Dusty and turned it down. Ultimate compliment to Dusty that she decided to record it after hearing Dusty's version and loving it. Of course, she put the RE RE on it and made it her own, like all the greats do.
Lori Romano You sure nough right!!!! Re Re!!!! All day!!!!
Someone has Spotify lol
This is a Dionne Warwick song 🤦🏿♀️
Yes and in the documentary Just Dusty, Dusty Springfield points out the genius of Ms. Franklin's version, returning the compliment. Love that...
Aretha always made EVERYTHING her own. Dusty made her name known by taking on R&B and Pop and still making it sound real. She was white, English, and lesbian....so she had her own walls to climb. Thank the gods for both of these women.
Aretha sees Dusty gets a hit and she’s like “hold my beer”
Bro.. for real...
This song was originally written for Aretha, but she passed the song to Dusty. Aretha eventually covered it, just to give it that "diva soul."
That and with Otis Redding’s Respect
Hey bloke can U hold my beer.😜🤯😂😂😂🤐
But dustys version was better , this version was too churchie style. Piano wasn’t going good
The groove is *IT* -- so swampy. I love this as much as Dustys.
Love the original by Dusty Springfield but HOLY MOLY Aretha Franklin’s voice is sooo powerful! 🔥 ❤
The hallelujah, the way she reworked the bridge... Aretha truly was the Queen.
that ‘haleluya’ in the end just rips me apart omg. aretha totally killed it. no sense in comparing aretha and dusty, both are genious artists with their own style and sound. thanks for sharing.
Good bye princess :( You'll always be a legend!
Correction... she was and still is our QUEEN of soul. No princess there. Nothing short of QUEEN
Aretha's point of reference was always the church and her love for God, this reduction is a great example of this. I don't believe that the greatest amounts us rest, they continue to work for God, until the return of our Lord Jesus Christ, on that note hope to hear your beautiful voice praising God in another lifetime🙏🙏🙏
I wish there was a movie on Aretha's life; I'd watch it right away!
There is, starring Jennifer Hudson. Until then, premiering right now on Discovery is Aretha bio-series starring Cynthia Erivo. Watch it; it's sooo good!
@@shanec9840 its also on Hulu now!
Damn, Aretha in full voice singing a song that's made to give anyone a chance to shine. Love this
So beautiful inside and out. The voice of an angel. A true Queen ❤
❤Aretha & Dusty❤
Hearing this for the first time after listening to Dusty for years. Didn’t get into it at first, but Aretha’s bridge here is a knockout
Her interpretation of this song is phenomenal!
Her voice is just.. wow
This woman can put goose bumps on a man with that voice. She could flat lay it down!!
An incredible talent and one FINE woman!
This singing work here is amazing
rock on aretha and dusty memories will live for ever
RIP Queen !

100%
Aretha sings the song.
Dusty sings it with a believable storyline behind it.
Two different breed of cats
Dusty did say she preferred Arethas' version, two legends ❤️
Amazing voice !! She is truly an inspiration
Dusty could sing gospel but Aretha was a gospel singer. Dusty will always be my favourite singer but I so enjoy Aretha's performances.
RIP great talent !
This lady is just fabulous!
An amazing voice & an amazing Woman
My grandmother was born the same year as Aretha and sadly passed away the same year as Aretha just sixteen days after her my grandmother was a fan and I didn't expect to say goodbye to them both so close together rest in HEAVENLY peace ladies 1942-2018
I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a grandmother is a very hard thing to go through. Wishing you the best.
@@sashineb.2114 thank you 💖💖
I'm still trying to come to terms with the loss but have my ups and downs with it.
I heard this in the office for the 1st time about 3 weeks ago. Now i cannot stop listening to it. And i love Dusty Springfield too.
Nobody could ever touch me with there music like you god has a angel fly as high as you want queen
I am 68 music was what made life easier in my time and the queen will always be alive in my heart i play her music everyday and always will
Beautiful rendition
Amazing how all three versions of this by Dusty, Erma and Aretha are all so different from each other but all fantastic
what about Tina Turner ?
Dusty's version let's you hear the great melody better
Rip. You will never be forgotten for the amazing things you did in life.
'Sock it to me!' Gotta love the '60s! :D
RIP Queen !
rock on aretha and dusty memories will live for ever
Rest in peace beautiful Queen of Soul
DISFRUTE EN MI JUVENTUD DE LA MAS GRANDE Y AUN LO HAGO.( SON OF A PREACHER MAN ) MI FAVORITA.MIENTRAS VIVA TE ESCUCHARE.AHORA EL CIELO DISFRUTA TUS CANCIONES !!!GRACIAS POR TANTO ARETHA.
'Sock it to me!' Gotta love the '60s! :D
Margaret Tudor it was realised in the 70s and Dusty's song was realised in 60s
Sing it beautiful beautiful gift from God!
For all you people fighting over what version is best Aretha or Dusty what I have come to lean whatever version you hear first is usually the version you like. Nice song this is but it was Dusty's version I heard first for many years so that is my huckleberry.
I'm your huckelberry DOC.
I thought that Dusty's version was best until I heard Aretha's version that's my personal opinion so therefore I disagree with your statement. But you are entitled to everything you think. God Bless!
Absolutely agree that the version you hear first is normally the best(In your opinion) as i've found this true with many songs
Dude she took this song to another level. She literally made this to a "gospel" song. But also she add swag to the song.
I agree with this, my favorite is Dusty's and that was the first one I heard
Hoping not to sound racist but to me this song has to much jive to it. Dusty had a more smooth tone for the song.
THIS IS SOULS HIT FROM THE BOONG! ARETHA FRANKLIN DOES THE HITS FROM THE BONG BING DON DON DER DER
La reine de la Soul dans ses œuvres !
This Old World needs you Ms Aretha.
Lyrics
Billy Ray was a preacher's son
And when his daddy would visit he'd come along
When they gathered around and started talkin'
That's when Billy would take me walkin'
Out through the back yard we'd go walkin'
Then he'd look into my eyes
Lord knows, to my surprise
The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
Yes he was, he was, ooh, yes he was
Bein' good isn't always easy
No matter how hard I try
When he started sweet-talkin' to me
He'd come'n tell me "Everything is all right"
He'd kiss and tell me "Everything is all right"
Can I get away again tonight?
The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
Yes he was, he was, ooh, yes he was (yes he was)
How well I remember
The look that was in his eyes
Stealin' kisses from me on the sly
Takin' time to make time
Tellin' me that he's all mine
Learnin' from each other's knowin'
Lookin' to see how much we've grown and
The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
Yes he was, he was, oh yes he was
He was the sweet-talkin' son of a preacher man
(The only boy who could ever teach me)
Was the son of a preacher man
Was the sweet-talkin' son of a preacher man
Oh Hallelujah❤️💞🌈
Anyone here because of the Hulu special✋🏾
🙋🏻♂️
The Hulu special brought me back to the Queen, who has been my fav since I dunno when.
nope pulp fiction
RIP Aretha Franklin
Oh man, Aretha is so unsurpassed!
Cushy-Lush piano. Replete with soul. Aretha Franklin was a genius like Mozart. xxxooo
Descansa en paz reina del soul...
😢
I love the both versions (Aretha and Dusty), but the Aretha version has something different, I can feel her soul in the music.
I think Dusty's interpretation fits the lyrics and story more.
Agreed
Aretha is the best singer
But this seems wrong for the hick song

I love Dusty Springfield’s version but I really like this version too. This is the first time I’ve ever heard this version. If I had heard this version first I might have liked this one better. Aretha was totally awesome!👏
ME ENCANTA ESTA MUJER!
Everything she touched was solid gold
She rides sweet and smooth. She dont scream it or yell it. She carrys her voice long and she. Is easy to listen to notes and sound. Her voice floats and stings like a bee. Up over right left carrys her voice well. Its the soul sound.
Wonderful version. Love it. Real soul! Love it 🤗
RIP Queen of Soul.
Dusty's version is unique, and so is Aretha's. They stand side by side in their greatness.
INCRÍVEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT A FUCKING VOICE!!!!!
YES!
Happy Birthday Aretha, we miss you every day xxx
A bit like "Little help from my friends", with Beatles and then with Joe Cocker, so different, there is place for the two in the highest.
Dusty's version was sexier and more intimate. It's always makes my hair at the back of the neck stand, in a good way. Aretha's version highlighting her skills and soulful vocals.
RIP one of my favorites
Two completely different versions of the same song 🤔
I like both versions but Ms. Aretha is just on another level 👑
She is the QUEEN!
RIP to a Legend
Aretha is awesome as first love. Sublime and human.
Dusty sang this and it was a hit. Aretha..."Hold my Martini."
Rest in Peace Queen.. ✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️
Lovely!!!
Concieved to sing thank you my queen
my favorite song
Requiescat In Pace, you beautiful soul. You will be truly missed.
Surely youtube can drop their adds after the loss of a soul legend for the day at least
You'd think wouldn't ya...
1:12-1:17 "Sock it to me"
I loved it! XD
Aretha Franklin Queen of soul
QUEEN 👑🥰🤗
I love you Aretha, but the Dusty version is unbeatable
aint no son of a preacher man opposite but I can say now days GOD BLESS AMERICA
Aretha & Dusty,I absolutely LOVE. THE BOTH OF THESE WOMEN childhood memories,I was always into music, from LED ZEPPLIN TO IKE&TINA TURNER TO DEEP PURPLE AND AL GREEN. ( better mention my Latin music or my 95 year old dad will "let me have it" lol)
I'm with Mondez, different styles but both good in their own ways.
Yes I agree with the other commenter. That life can be interpreted only by the person who is enjoying, living it. It is close enough though for me to recognize some Dusty Springfield in her deliverance.
Long live the queen! RIP Aretha Franklin
This was originally written for Aretha to sing, and she does an amazing job...but with all due respect, Dusty Springfield's version blows this out of the water. Dusty brought sensuality and playfulness that the song truly deserves.
Dusty was and is the best white British female singer ever, she had real soul, but Aretha IS soul, straight from the black church, this is the gospel version, Dusty's is as good but not gospel and not meant to be.
thecatsaton2mats You got that right!!!! Tell these young bozos! They dont know shit. Everything they do is just ass backwards.
That’s all well and good, but Dusty’s version is far more catchy.
mm ... I've always felt that Aretha Franklin is way too overrated ... I've heard far better singers who are less famous, like Randy Crawford ..
Aretha has the power but lacks sensuality in her voice .. try listening to Randy Crawford, she's got both power and sensuality to the max, she's one singer who's criminally underrated ...
I like both Dusty's and Aretha's versions. Both awesome, for different reasons.
Hermosa
I am the son of a preacher man 👍
Ahh man.......I never heard this gospel version before.
Sock it to me Re Re!
Oh this version is way better way better than the one Erma recorded. Lit 🔥
Dusty interpreted this song and it was great. This version is something else as is everything this woman did around this time in her career. There's no singer in the world that touches her or touches this. I remember when Whitney Houston was compared to her in the 80s and I just laughed and laughed and laughed.
