I am coming out of a Land Rover D4 with the 3L V6 to a V6 Ranger Wildtrak. The D4 is a heavier car and surprisingly the fuel burn figures are very similar to what you report. My Ranger is due next month and one must have option was the 140L ARB fuel tank. Something missing in this review is estimated range. Trust me this something that caravaners are keen to know. The D4 had 190L of fuel so there was no range anxiety there.
The V6 is more refined we did select something different in the wildtrak with the premium package we also fitted the Lovells GVM /GCM kit for a 3505GVM and 7005 GCM this also gave us the 40 mm lift along with it, just picked it up but super happy. The last car was a 2.0 wildtrak X and we towed our van the same weight as the one used on the v6 in this test and we achieved 14.5l per hundred from Melbourne to Adelaide, but then again i am an owner not a journalist so my driving is more conservative.
another great video im towing a 2.3T van around Oz with the BiTurbo & when it hits the hilly stuff it struggles i was looking @ the V6 but because its the old lion engine touched up i was worried about its reliability
The Lion engine was a concern for me. I have a D4 with 300000klm on it and the one thing that has always been a constant good thing is the engine. I know others have not had the same luck. My Take it has 5 years warranty I doubt I will keep my Ranger beyond its warranty.
Mostly correct, I do know a couple of people that have bought, travelled and then sold for either more or pretty close to the same as they paid. If you paid during covid tax period and are selling now, you would be losing big time.
@@ronaldov09I guess if you are that worried about depreciation you would just buy shares instead of a car. A few years ago I bought a 4 berth ford winnebago for $74000 and after a 8 month trip around Aus sold it for $72000.
250k will buy a lot of overseas holidays if well invested. But then again, you won’t get to sleep in an acoustically transparent effluent tank or make breakfast and set up the kitchen table all while sitting on the toilet 😂
If your going to tour for a extended time you have to consider dealer backup and Toyota have that covered. No im not a Toyota owner and never have been but its a big consideration.
I’ve spent two years towing around Australia, take a look through caravan parks and the highways of this country and it’s very rare to see a Amarok towing a caravan. Why? Well I met a new Amarok owner in Charters Towers recently at a free camp. This poor guy was having no end of trouble with his new Amarok V6 and the service he got from VW Cairns was an appalling. I felt very sorry for him.
Caravan weighs more than the ute I would not be pushing the limits to often with something that heavy. Because things have a knack of going south far too often its the trouble with humans they see a limit as a challenge.
You have to know that videos like these have to appeal to a broader audience, easy watch and throwing numbers etc etc will no doubly lose a a fair viewing numbers as people could fine it boring or too much. Do they still have those stupid wheel bolts not nuts? Just try fiddling around trying to get a bolt into a hole through the wheel on the side of a dirt road. Absolutely ridiculous!
No, as this car is a rebadged Ford Ranger it has wheel studs with nuts. Unfortunately, as it’s a rebadged Ranger the wheel nuts are fragile (they have a tin cap over them to make them look nice, but that cap can be easily damaged by monkeys with rattle guns).
I'd rather spend $250k on resort and overseas trips. There are no upfront costs, maintenance costs, rego, insurance, van park ,fuel, and depreciation costs. The list is endless of why not to tow an aluminium shitwah around the country. 😊
Each go their own but I can’t see much point in $250k on overseas holidays with nothing to show for it. Would prefer to go where I want, when I want and stay as long as I want as often as I want with the flexibility offered by towing.
Your wrong about servicing intervals , 20,000ks is correct not 15,000 The 4 cyl couldn’t pull the skin off custard ! I had one for line after my first V6 Pan Am blew the engine
Too many variables to accurately compare. Different vans and one has canopy on Ute which is more aerodynamic than all the crap you’ve got on top of the v6 and a lift kit
You should never use the 3 blink (or 5) indicator anyway as a lane change requires several seconds to give other drivers notice of your intention and then the indicator needs to stay on until your change (or merge) is complete. This is typically 7-12 flashes depending on how quickly you change lanes (merge). And obviously for corners you have to put your indicator on until the turn is complete. I fail to even understand why vehicles even have the 3 flash thing. It’s pointless as it’s not even enough to give other drivers warning - I do 5 flashes (3 seconds) before even starting to move - also gives me time to check again, all my mirrors. Please don’t be one of the 1 or 3 flash drivers.

Dropping $250k on a ute and van, I don't think fuel consumption should be a consideration.
It'll depreciate faster than you can burn the fuel in it.

RRP says there is only $4k difference between motors. But from my experience 4cyl Styles are going between 6-9K cheaper in the yards atm.

It’s the 2.3L EcoBoost.
love the Amarok
Nice!

Wonder how a 4.0L Falcon would go towing this ?😅

V6 is the way to go.

These comparison videos need way more data points before conclusions can be make. Nobody ever talks about rpm boost levels temps etc

No because it’s not a Volkswagen
If you use the locator peg in the VW toolkit supplied it makes it quite easy!
Reckon if you're thinking VW in Australia for the big trip.... better have a look again 😀
Plenty of people are doing trips like this with a Ute.
