- The much anticipated VW Amarok is officially on sale , following their partnership with Ford this brand new model has a lot in common with the locally built Ford Ranger but has Volkswagen done enough to ensure the Amarok has more of that Volkswagen feel to distinguish it from the Ranger ?

I test drove both the Style and the Wildtrak, and as much as I’d buy the Ranger over the Amarok, the Amarok felt a bit more comfortable and quiet on the inside.

@@dominiquegaming7789 the Wildtrak looks better as whole product, even with service plan being an optional extra comes out cheaper and because they are the same product, I generally prefer the Ford.
@@maxlodewyk_na I’ve got a ford ranger sport, and I can tell you that you’re making the right choice. The ford is more refined for real world conditions.
That's because the Ranger still uses Leaf springs for the rear suspension while the Amarok changed to coil springs which make for a smoother ride when the bakkie is unloaded ...
The raptor though uses coil springs as well...

Not a bakkie fan but I guess it's ok. I like the look of the Ranger a bit more but I'm splitting hairs honestly. VW has a maintenance plan so that's a bonus.

You can tell it’s a Ford now lol because the warranty is ford warranty 4yr/120k km versus the normal 3yr VW.
The pricing for bakkies and cars is definitely out of this world😮
Personally Il go get used ones which have proven engines and much lower retail. I might not get the current tech but I also won’t have to deal with reliability issues and stuff 👨🏾💻if and when they arise
If Toyota is any indication, that roller shutter won't work for longer than a few months in SA conditions.

Good preview. The wildtrack and style are similar in price but the wildtrack is even better speced then the pan Americana well here in Australia anyway.

I just feel that car manufacturers are losing the plot. The base model of the previous Ranger actually looked good. The new Ranger base model is a dud. The Amarok base model actually looks good n is the sensible bakkie to buy. Paying over R700k for a car with an open bin is not smart.
Personally I love the Amarok, the Ranger is good but their design elements don't resonate with me. I am disappointed that VW couldn't get their own V6 inside but I guess it was the conditions of Ford that they use Ford Engines. It has massively improved. The only thing people love about the previous Amarok is the V6 engine, besides that they wouldn't even look at it.
It actually sold just as well with the 2.0 TDi engine before the 3.0 V6 was introduced. Not a best seller but a premium niche truck.
Guys, when buying a car... Avoid this things.
1. Do not test drive in town, why? The road is smooth and any gwara gwara sound will be hard to detect (bearings, cv joints etc). Go into uneven roads...small potholes and see if that gwa-gwa sound is there. Feel those shocks nice nice.
2. Test drive is not done in 20 minutes. Put 150 fuel, hit the high way to Rehoboth or even Mariental (provided you put in gasoline). Why? Some cars overheat, kort engine oil after certain powerful revs and some start making funny sounds etc when past e.g 220 or 280. Some can't even go above 120 and the thing is bringing on a light already.
3. No service record, don't buy. I repeat, no service record no go buy. I bought a 2009 B8 Audi a4 2.0T clocking 220 000km with a detailed service record and the thing is still very very powerful and no mechanical fault experienced thus far with Engine (although I am slowly replacing the entire suspension due to the kms). What I am trying to say is, if it means buying a car with a lot of kilos with a good service record, buy rather than buying one with few kilos and being told... book is lost. Kak. (You are buying without guarantee bossa)
4. Remember, if you are buying a car over 100K, you will only spend extra 5K to get that car checked out (full diagnosis) at your preferred mechanic. Them jitas will reset every light and you will end up buying a moving Garage.
REMEMBER, you are buying a car that you will entrust your life in it, you are not buying a toy. Call me when you're unsure. it up

I got the new raptor coming from a v6 extreme, which wasn't good imo.
I'd say u need to compare to the wildtrak to the pan Americana. Not the style.
The raptor suspension is in a totally different league as well. U cant compare it to old-school suspension in bakkies
Correct, and once you go Raptor R or F150, you speaking a different galaxy. Honestly VW lost the plot overall, they should keep selling Polos
But I like the Ford Ranger more than the Amarok

I'll get myself a true legendary bakkie and buy a 2023 Toyota Hilux GR-S instead of this Ford Ranger-Amarok. The Hilux GR-S might not have a large screen and all the fancy electronics, but it's simple and that why I love a Toyota bakkie. After 10 years of ownership, the Hilux will have much better re-sale value compared to any other manufacturer. To each their own, so buyers can choose what they want to waste their money on. I'll stick with the Hilux!!
The problem with Hilux is it always looks ugly after 1 year. Doesn't have enough leg room in the rear. Cheap electronics and not a comfortable ride. Only thing it has is a resale value just because it is a tractor. Not really a leisure family car.
The panamerican looks beautiful 💗 than any bakkie there is now.....surely vw aims for the luxury bakkie market that it had for itself with the amarok V6 outgoing model the aventure looks beautiful than many suv

It's reign is over now. The Extreme is something of the past. Let's move forward. I also love the 1992 Toyota Cressida 2.0 GLE, Nissan Skyline, Ford Sharphire but there are better cars now mate.

People where made at Toyota partnering with Suzuki on small cars..that business it long time ago we will get used to it...

Vw partnered with Ford because Vw wanted good off-road technology for the American market and Ford wanted electric infrastructure for the UK market

Pickup tracks is a overpopulated market now. while they where cooking we had X class that came and go..no we have Landtrack and Profesional..VW is also a newcomer..on this market..so they are many competitors..but for them partnering with Ford is going to help them..a lot..remember they're Japanese who are dominating the market

I don't think anyone buying the Aventura will be using it as a bukkie, this will definitely be their family. Even though it's has that 4MOTION badge at the back, this will be bought mostly by people living in the city. I don't think anyone in their right mind will be taking their R1.1 Million beast off road.
Pricing is so confusing, I totally agree with you there. Especially when you compare it with the Ranger Raptor, 184 kw is obviously less 192 kw. This is pure nonsense, no matter how you look at it. For me, the Ranger XLT is the way to go.

At least if it had VW Engines and suspension, but I rather go for ranger once
