      Mango's Summit 11 run was the best losers run we get. Everyone played fantastically, the tourney was insanely stacked, and Mang0 was sent SO early in losers. This was and will be the peak of melee for years to come.
      Been watching melee for a while and nothing tops this. I was screaming the whole time

      Melee community is the best. What esport has better casters? Cmon I mean Toph, scar, HMW, lovage, webs, blur, wobbles, DJ, chillin, and the list goes on and on

      We're truly blessed that one of our best hardest-working commentators can so fluidly integrate the history of the game into commentary and just in general. One of the reasons the scene is still alive is because of narratives and personalities and how strongly they are presented in commentary

      I would love to see them commentate an entire old tournament to give context to them. I know the vods are out there but because some of them have really poor or nonexistent commentary and I don't know the stories behind them they're not interesting to watch, but seeing someone recommentate old vods would be amazing

    It brings me a special kind of joy to see PC's 0C3 run talked about so fondly in 2023.
    MLG, post-MLG and Brawl era Melee really hits diff.

    A note about 0C3 is that it used MLG rules for second sets. M2K beat PC 2-1. MLG rules states that if two players meet in bracket twice, if the first set was a Best of 3 and second set is a Best of 5, the score from Set 1 is carried over into the second set, and it become a Best of 9. Then in PC won the set in Grands on Game 6, beating him in just that set 4-2, beating him overall 5-4 in that Best of 9, and if PC dropped Game 5 or 6, M2K beats him 3-2 or 3-3. So PC didn't beat M2K twice, because of the MLG rules that this tournament used, but he did win a set in which he had to win one more game than M2K did to win the tournament

    Underrated runs are Leffen at Smash’n’splash 3, and also M2K at UGC. neither of them won but they both won about 10 sets in loser’s AND each reset the bracket in grand finals

      For losers runs that didn’t finish, Genesis 3 comes to mind of course, but also Armada at Evo 2018 was one that would have been top 3 if he won the tournament. Beat Gahtzu, M2K, a Zain that was already a top 8 seed, S2J, Mango, Plup, Hbox
      Leff was too big that day

      @@Joadchoad I agree but tbf armada only won 7 sets in the loser’s bracket and DID NOT reset the bracket. He did defeat really good opponents though

      I lowkey think leffen at SNS 3 would have been top 4 under the mango runs, possibly over Evo 2013. That run was absolutely insane and if he beat hbox at the height of his powers like that, it was pretty legendary. My fav leffen run besides goml

    I think another run that could have been on the list was LTC 2019 where Hbox won 12 straight sets after losing to Albert sort of the magnum opus of his strenght to win from losers like Summit 11 for mang0.
    Didn't have every top 10 member on the kill count but still a very impressive run that sort of got forgotten.

    The best recent loser runs that almost were:
    - DontTestMe at East Park Rollback: After "losing" his first match against ZeldaFool, he beat Blues Clues, NOOT, Aklo, Tai, Kuyashi, Bones, Magi, KJH, Albert, Ginger and Axe's Young Link before falling to his Pikachu.
    - moky at The Function 2: After losing to Jflex he beat eve, Brad, Foxy Grandpa, iBDW, Skerzo, Zamu, Pipsqueak and SluG only to be defeated by Ginger in Grand Final.

    Plup at The Big House 8 had a really nice losers run.
    He didn't win the tournament though, got 2nd to Hbox, but he was in losers for a good while, it was pretty impressive.

    The best part about most of The Pantheon videos is when there is talk about the old era since I also was not (internationally) competitive in Melee before 2012, love it. Especially getting context for tournaments is always interesting.

    Mango's run at Summit 11 still gets me emotional BUT i would have to give the #2 nod to his run at EVO 2013. Just think about how different the scene would be today if he didn't make that run

    It's a shame this only includes runs that ended up winning the whole event. I think Armada's run at EVO 2018 might be the most underrated run, despite not winning. He was knocked into LOSERS ROUND 3 by Swedish Delight. He then proceeded to beat Gahtzu, Mew2King, Zain, S2J, Mango, Hungrybox, and then Plup before falling to Leffen in grands. Hell of a run.

      Evo 2018 mad slept on. Never seen Armada lower than after losing to Swedish. People forget, but that run might be one of his most impressive runs despite not winning the tourney

    m2k @ugc was my favorite, even if he didn't win, he went at least even with everyone and beat every single top player who was at the tournament. Duck, to Mang0, to Ice, to n0ne, to Leffen, to Hbox, to Armada. If only his mentality didn't crumble in the bracket reset.

    In the MLG days (pre 2010s), I believe Ken is the only player to have won a major from losers aside from PC Chris. (Evo 2007) Not a major, but Ken also won his first tournament against the east coast from losers as well (Game Over in 2004)
    I am glad they hyped up PC Chris for n0ne. He was a really great player and I think even Falco mains now could learn a lot from watching his old games.

    Pre-2010s Melee is so funny nowadays just because there was a lot more stuff people were experimenting with. The meta was advancing way faster and people are just playing funnier than nowadays

    Low Tier City in 2019 with Hbox is Top 5
    Dude loses to unranked Albert, proceeds to beat Morsecode, None, and Fiction to make Top 8. Goes on to beat S2J, squash Albert in their rematch, beat Mango, and knock out SFAT to make Grand Finals. Then he wins a grueling Game 10 set over Zain
    Getting upset that hard by an unknown (BO5 no less, they didn't know it was BO3 and Albert still won) and maintaining focus/endurance that long in the modern era is crazy

    Mango at press start needs to be on here. My man got DQ'd from winners round 1 and proceeded to beat Jace, Westballz, Hax, Leffen, Shroomed, Lucky, Hbox, Axe, and Fly twice while going 30-3 in games. Arguably 6 top 10 players at the time, and he dumpstered them

    There are impactful losers runs as far as melee history/storylines go and then there are losers runs where the wins are the most impressive.
    Mango certainly has the most impactful losers runs on lock, but I think the most impressive losers run in terms of wins is Hungrybox at TBH7.
    Hbox beat M2K, Armada, Leffen, Plup x 2 to win the tournament. Insane.

    Not gonna lie, I think it’s kind of screwy to put GTX 2017 here to rank instead of Low Tier City 7, a much better loser run from Hbox than gtx2017. Just saying.
