Well this was a pretty solid thing for Michelin to be alright with. Really shows their confidence in their tires. Thanks for putting this together, guys!
You guys should do one more centered around rally cross people. Not uncommon for rally cross guys to be running cheap winter tires/small all terrains/ all season tires. You should test them against rally tires on a simpler platform.
Pirelli, Michelin and Yokohama has hade the most success here in Sweden. I have been doing lots of rally sprints lately which is mostly hard gravel mixed with a bit of asphalt and I have found the Yokohama ADVAN A036 to be very good for those types of roads in my FWD Corolla edit: otherwise I have been running Yokohama ADVAN A035 on the softer side in the forest which have felt probably as good the Pirelli K8 while being more economical both due to being a bit cheaper and a local dealer helping me out edit2: also the Swedish Championship has made a deal with Hankook and their new WRC tyres for the 2025 season so that will be interesting to see what everyone will think of those
This is super rad, and the content I love to see from you guys! More enthusiast content and testing is a plus for all grassroots teams that more than likely can't afford to do a test like this on their own, let alone finding a facility to test in this manner
Good video, unfortunately using K4 and K6 as medium and soft definitely were too hard. K6 are a medium (Pirelli calls them medium soft) and the true soft is K8 which is not available on FWD size you tried but it is on the AWD you did. Would be great to share the durometer numbers too for people's reference. Great stuff! Thanks for doing this, very cool!
That was my first thought that I was hoping to see compared. I've heard from you and others that the Pirelli's have a longer life for the compound ranges, and as a more novice/poor driver myself that's going to be a huge factor for what tires I'll buy
I absolutely LOVE this style of video!!!! Amazing editing, directing, and performance from everyone, awesome concept and a great way to celebrate Michelin getting back into the world of rally! Incredible video 🔥🔥🔥
I never knew that Michelins were not available here in the states for the last ten years. ??? I wonder why (and how) they let themselves be outbid by Hankook for the prestigious WRC top level 'exclusive supplier' contract. ????
I use MRF on the front, and Hoosiers on the back. (Car is a Ford Fiesta XR4) MRFs give the best grip, and are cheaper, while the Hoosiers give better turn in.
Thank you all a for that, it is really important testing work for users and I really appreciate all the work and effort you all put in to it. It is really grate if you can do Dunlop and Yokohama as well but I don't know if there are available for you or not. Thanks again and keep up the good work.
The Yoks are available here in the states IF you REALLY want them, but the only team I've seen them on are the perennially and perpetually winning, juggernaut, Scoobie Motorsorts USA/Vermont Sports Car WRXes. I have never seen a Dunlop gravel rally tire here in the states, although I am sure they exist somewhere. 😉
Yeah, that beast looks more out of place on the gravel stage roads than my old LS1 4th gen Z28 did the few times I used it to work/volunteer on STPR way back when (NOT lowered at all, of course!).
@@tptrsn Nope, not even ever on the NEFR stages, which is the rally which Team O'Neil is most affiliated with in current times, although they (or Tim himself) were not the originators of that event in 1991/1992.

But the Team Dynamics Pro Rally were only available in a 15x6, if I recall correctly from way back when they were still being produced.
very stoked on this! good work and effort by all. where would the general public be able to find and purchase these kinds of tires? are they sold in limited quantities or restricted to team use only? thanks team o' neil this was sick.
Yes they did all start at the same pressure at the start of each test at 28 PSI. The data recorded shows the pressure and temperatures at the end of 2 shakedown laps and at the end of each testing cycle.
These tires are VERY co$tly, (like $250 USD+ each and up, depending on size, compound, and manufacturer) and even the hardest compound varieties will 'burn up' quite rapidly if driven on asphalt/tarmac at all. WHY I decided to just run on a strong, XL side wall, less micro-siped, winter tire (like the General Arctic 12s, or Conti Viking 7s) to work on gravel rallies instead of actual, real gravel rally tires. 😉
@@guest6423 We used the exact same course on all four days of documenting this. Medium tires on the South end of the the property and the soft compound tires on the North end of the property for both the front wheel drive and the all wheel drive rally cars.
None of those, all of them are way too expensive for most grassroot teams. It would be interesting to put a budget tire in the mix like an MRF or Federal that are half price or even less than the options presented here to see how they compare to these premium tires.
Where can the Michelin tires be purchased? The only place I can find the Pirelli tires is charging $430 per tire before shipping!!! That is a huge difference when you compare it to the more budget friendly tire like MRF ($180 per tire shipped!). Even if I only run one set of MRFs per day on a two day rally, it would still be cheaper then one set of Pirelli. Curious what the performance of the Pirelli would be after one day of racing compared to a new set of MRF. Now that is a test we need and would convince ppl to try Michelin and Pirelli.
Would like to know the longevity of rally tyre. As the way off-road grip is generated differently than track tyre. How do the normal at tyre against these
On pavement, rally tires get chewed up pretty quickly. If you were to drive a rally tire strictly on a dirt road and drove conservatively, it could last a while.
