'Your triggers aren't anyone-else's responsibility.' I have been waiting for someone to say this for years.
I've said it for years, but it seems to trigger people and they get all butthurt.
@@nickwarner8158 well that’s probably because reducing triggers to an absolutist argument comes off as a bit disingenuous. Am I responsible for a blue t shirt I’m wearing triggering you? No.
Am I responsible for triggering PTSD by having a firework display? I’d lean no, but it’s arguable and circumstantial.
Am I responsible for triggering if someone with trauma comes to my house and I do something likely to trigger their known trauma (intentionally setting off loud bangs for the PTSD example)? Absolutely.
Am I responsible if my family member requests I use she/her pronouns but I don’t think they’ve put enough effort in so use he/him (Blair’s example)? Absolutely.
THANK YOU
@@AnObviousMjolnir i agree. If you intentionally trigger someone's ptsd, you're an asshole. But expecting nobody to ever wear blue again? You're a jerk too. The more general the trigger, the less right you have to complain. It also matters if the person even knew you had triggers. My brother gives me trigger warnings for everything before I watch it, I tell him I dont need him to unless its XYZ. But there are smaller details he doesn't know will trigger me, sometimes I dont know it will either. He gets upset and never stops apologizing, I use those exact words. I have to deal with it. That's on me. Likewise, I trigger him sometimes. Usually it's stuff that, if I thought before I spoke, I would not have said. He cringes, I apologize and make sure he's OK, we move on.
I keep wondering how this person can even go outside under the blue sky or anywhere near water, or a myriad other things... sorry person, THAT is entirely on YOU...

That is something most people in the U.S. don't even think about in terms of this. They only think about themselves and wanting others to cater to them, but don't want to be considerate to those around them. English is already a hard enough language to learn, and this shit is making it even more complicated.
I can’t stand these “neo-pronouns”. It’s so damn confusing. I feel sorry for the people that are learning English as a second language. They probably have aneurysms every time they try to learn about this crap.

I definitely used gender as a way to escape my trauma after my dad died. I had it in my head that I was genderqueer and I was like trying my best to show masculine qualities like my dad. But no, I was just a depressed girl who lost my dad and didn’t know how to cope, so I went that route.

Now, I am 28 years old so I got a strong foot in life. But a kid doesnt neccesarily know how to deal with this and can do just about anything from "absolutely reasonable" to "Oh Ima just... jump". As a therapist myself, thank you for talking about trans-hood as a trauma response. I cannot touch on their differences, even in my professional role, without being labeled transphobic.
Actually please tell me. I’m studying psychology and I might have transgender clients one day

ugh but y not!? like u could save kids from transitioning n regretting it! therapy should be an outside yet respectful perspective
My son (daughter?) came out to me as trans a few weeks ago and has begun hormone therapy. She’s seemed distant over the past year and now says this is what she’s been dealing with. She doesn’t talk a lot, so at this point (her therapist and) I just have to trust that she’s correctly identifying her feelings of dysphoria. The fact that any inkling of questioning her, reads as me not supporting her transition, makes it *really* difficult to know how similar her experience may be to the extreme dysphoria I felt at her age (17). Back then, it wouldn’t have occurred to me that I might have been born the wrong gender for my sex. All I know is that I honestly thought she was “all boy,” in every way, while she was growing up. She still dresses the same now, and says she’s just a tomboy. Sometimes I feel like I’m jumping off a cliff, knowing that all I can do is support her but not having any idea where we will land.

@@cherryxfanta Those aren't real pronouns, tell your friend to stop making shit up and you shouldn't enable this type of utter idiocy
I use they/them pronouns and even I think that neopronouns are kind of out of control, like, your favorite animal or color isn’t a gender. I don’t think it’s too crazy to have she/her, he/him, and they/them. That’s only three options.
Myself and a few others I know don’t get offended by people assuming binary pronouns like “she“ or “he” (mostly “she” for me) because how are they supposed to know? It’s natural for most people to want to assign a gender to someone even if they look ambiguous. On a rational level I don’t think I need to be offended by someone who “assumes my gender” 🤷🏼. It’s just annoying when people have to throw a huge tantrum over someone using they/them pronouns.
(And yes, I’m actually intersex, although I don’t believe you have to be to go by they/them pronouns).
@em ! I'm definitely not intersex, but I'm gender fluid (afab) and I think it's arbitrary to say there is a set number of genders. people experience everything differently, and that's the same with genders. even if you said there are 100+ genders or something like that, there is always going to be people that don't fit into that. the only answer is to let people identify how they feel fit because everyone knows themselves best. I hope that answers your question :)
@em ! yeah, that's a great question! everyone's gender is different and is basically apart of your personality, so it's kind of like thinking about and part of your personality. you kinda know if you're introverted or extroverted, and gender is similar (in my opinion). it's like there is some part of you that just knows where you fit in (or don't fit in) even if it takes a while to find out the term for it. gender dysphoria also is a good indicator, though not all transgender people experience that
@em ! there isn't any "right" or "correct" feelings for each gender. just look up some genders and figure out which one fits you best! there is no right or wrong answers because you know yourself best. play around with different labels and pronouns and figure what works best for you. even if you later realize that a certain gender isn't who you are (or even realizing that you weren't even trans), all that matters is finding out what makes you feel comfortable and that there are no "mistakes." you don't have to fit into someone else's definition of a certain gender because you are you! (and I totally don't mind answering questions) :)

I love that you commented your story. I know others who have had the same experience as you and it takes a strong sense of self awareness and understanding to accept and share those parts of yourself. I had a similar experience in identifying as a lesbian in my teens due to sexual trauma and abuse. I felt emotionally safe with women and scared of men. I had a crippling anxiety surrounding sex with men and assumed it must just be because I was gay. It wasn't until I healed the deeper stuff going on that I started slowly trusting in men again and coming to my own understanding of my sexuality.
Fair warning: kids might ruin your body in a different way... Regardless, I’m glad you found the strength to untie yourself from the past traumas!
All of you mean super straight 😉
thinking about it, i wonder if these people who use neo pronouns like bun bunny self actually come out to their extended family and ask everyone they know to refer to them with those pronouns?? because from what i've seen, it's purely an internet thing
See, in real life if someone announced that their pronouns were bun/bunself they’d be laughed out of it. But thanks to the internet, people can find obscure communities online of like-minded people who affirm and encourage their weird behaviours and who end up normalising it.
So when that person is back in the real world, they’re confronted by the reality that their behaviour isn’t universally socially accepted. And so they feel attacked and run back to their online community where they can feel coddled and safe. It’s a cycle. Same goes for any kind of extremist who’s radicalised online.

These people really need to understand that gender and sexuality aren't something you just suddenly call yourself, It's something you realize about yourself, and how you handle that realization is your choice, as much as I support being yourself and doing whatever makes you happy I think making new labels for literally everything damages the community and segregates us further.

My neo-pronoun is 'God' and 'Godself'. I expect EVERYBODY to refer to me as such or I'll shit! 😋
Without watching the rest of the video... “pick out the red and yellow m&m’s” is the best analogy and understanding of their mentality... me me me... treat me special not because I was born into a different gender as I perceive myself (which I respect) but treat me different because I want to be special and unique...me me me
exactly
you cant claim to respect someone while disrespecting their pronouns
#they #she #he I support that and respect that 100% and I’ll always do my best to not offend people.
Zhur etc... no, that’s bollocks
@@dildoshwagginsz4428 like... why? all language is made up? why draw a line like that
@@bisboptheclown because of my example...
In my professional line of work the guy laughed when people said she and accepted it was a silly mistake as that’s what they knew him as for years...
Now we have to tiptoe round it over fears of HR claims because new words that are hitting our vocabs are being weaponised over trivial matters such as making a genuine mistake...
Further to that... if you identify as he or she or in the ‘middle’ they... that’s cool I’m all for that but where do you expand ‘they’ too... which is what this is all about... if we went extremist and confirmed to every identity ever claimed in that middle ground where do we stop and where do we stop demonising people that get it slightly wrong...
For me pronouns should be per sex, they, female or male... but it seems that sexual identity has made its way into this and it’s not constructive...
Last point put... I don’t think I’ve ever met someone with the pronouns Xe that when someone got it wrong through nothing more than not knowing got a wrap of filth down their throat about being a bigot...
I’m a massive craft beer snob and my preference is DIPA’s but I don’t expect to make up a pronoun to account for that... if your are born male but identify as female and put your penis where ever you want to put it... that’s cool... I don’t care... if your a nice person we will be friends... it’s the requirement for specialist treatment at the detriment of others that scares me... where does it end... and before you joke about the ‘big deal’ it’s the people being ruined for simple mistakes... if you deny that happens then I don’t see us working towards an understanding (of which I’m glad you replied and asked a question :) ) usually I get... F**k you biggot!

Everybody's non-binary now apparently LOL Like, can't you just understand that you can be a feminine man or a more masculine woman? What happend to gender roles that everybody was talking about for the last 6 years?
THATS WHAT I’VE BEEN SAYING. Glad to know others know what’s up
We can simply agree that the gender roles don't exist the same way as they used to do which clears all the "non-binary status".
Those non-binaries don't need lame titles to feel special, they need a personality!
Yeah they're like "wow I don't fit exactly into the perfect stereotype of hyper masculine man/hyper feminine woman, clearly I must not be either of them!"
did they forget things like tomboys exist?
@@viysnjor4811 And Tom girls. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds.
It almost makes it feel like their mocking it just like Blaire said at the end.
Thank you for calling this what it is: narcissistic and self-centered. I do think kids who are doing this are just lost, but I can't even excuse it in adults.
exactly..and there's a clown in this comment section calling it science and facts lmfao.
What are we doing to our children? We are just creating a circus of confusing labels and words to describe what we can't. We are all different, and a label shouldn't be important. I had trouble coming to terms with the fact that I'm gay, because I don't want that label slapped on me. There is more to me than "gay". It's literally the smallest part of my being. But other people seem to be desperately grabbing for labels. And for what? All we are doing is making it so confusing and messy for our children that they won't be able to work out what their sexuality or gender is, because we've placed so much doubt in their minds. Kids who never would have questioned if they'd been born in past generations will now start to soul search and attach labels to themselves that aren't necessary or accurate. It's not fair that we are creating so much confusion for them.
Their parents raised them wrong.

As a non-binary myself, I hate how some people get so offended over people using their wrong pronouns. I doubt asking people to walk into a room and announce their pronouns is the right way to go. I don't do it, it's just not practical. Maybe if I was in an icebreaker I would mention me being non-binary, but like in most things, mentioning gender doesn't matter.
I’m nb too and I 100% agree. If someone is masc/femme presenting chances are ill mistakenly misgender them and correct myself when they point it out to me. My problem is when they get ANGRY and start attacking the person who misgendered them. If I’m ever talking to someone who uses neopronouns, chances are I’ll either use they/them if they’re fine with it, or just not talk to them at all😐😐
Yeah, if someone is polite I don’t mind trying to use the right pronouns but if someone is rude about it then I won’t put in any effort to do so and I know many people who feel the same, I think the way you go about it is the best way.
@@saltyark7564 I’d probably still use the right pronouns even if they were a massive dickhead about it, but we aint talking. Someone changing their pronouns or using uncommonly used ones is going to be hard for those who will be using them ya feel? We’re going to slip up and we don’t need to get yelled at every time we do
