WOW!! this is a fantastic explainer video!!! I'm new to this and have been searching for months for the details. I am now subscribed to your channel and look forward to more videos! I do have a question; How did you separate (remove) the template?
Thank you very much for your kind comments! You can remove the template by clicking on the delete icon or by sliding it all the way out of the design area.
Great video, thanks! I am working on my first low content book too, just to get an idea of how all this works. For my cover I am using a landscape photograph that I took myself while outdoors. It covers the full back and front cover. I am just wondering if that would be okay to use, and secondly, whether the quality of the picture will remain as good as it looks on Canva! You said below that it needs to be 300 dpi. Where can I check that? I appreciate all your videos. They are such an inspiration for beginners! Thanks!
You can absolutely use your own photos, I do it all the time. You would have to make sure that your photo is taken at a high resolution, the higher the better. It needs to be clear and sharp and you will need to convert the cover to a pdf. You can check the properties of the image to see what the dpi is. A quick Google search will probably give you more details.
Thank you so much for this video. I've been trying to do this for hours using the pixels as measurement and it just wasn't formatting it right. This was my last attempt before ripping my hair out :)
I'm glad I got there in time! I know the feeling, I used to make that mistake all the time, that's why I mention it every time I get the chance. Thank you so much for watching!
Excellent Video! One quick question, do you use Canva's pro images on your real covers? As per my understanding, you can use a pro image once and need to purchase extra license to use it in another design!
I think that is the case if you buy individual elements, if you have the pro subscription, the licence is different. The important thing is to always use images or elements in conjunction with other elements, combining them rather than using as a stand alone image.
@@TheHomeBoss Yep, I have checked their license agreement and it says if you have a subscription then they issue a new license whenever we use an element in a different design!
I recently found you and am LOVING your teachings! Do you have any info on how to find 300 dpi images? Ive tried the dpi converters online when Im using one of my own pics but it just makes the pic smaller. Its truly becoming a nightmare for me. HELP PLEASE❤
I tend to use images from Canva or Creative Fabrica and they are 300dpi. How do you make your covers, do you use Canva? And when you say you use your own pics, do you make the artwork yourself? If you make it on Canva, and you download as pdf print, they are 300dpi.
You can only use the ones marked 'free' if you're using the free version of Canva. If you use pro, you can use the other images too. However, always remember to modify the images or combine them with other images, don't use anything as a standalone picture, otherwise you run the risk of having the same image as somebody else and Amazon doesn't allow it.
I wish I could! Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to create a book on a mobile phone but I know some people have done it. I have great respect for anybody who manages to do that.
How do you make sure your text or graphic is in the middle? Will the axis markers show up? Also, I usually put a colored strip along the spine. This takes up space; I cannot get my journal label centered. Any suggestions?
Thanks for this video. I created a book cover in canva and uploaded it to KDP. I hit the preview and KDP and the book cover was missing many of the embellishments that I used to make the cover. Do you know why this might happen? Am I supposed to embed the design somehow before uploading it to canva? Thanks.
Thank you for the video, Question: if you use some elements from Canva having a Premium subscription and then unsubscribe, are you allowed to keep using for commercial use those designs made while you were subscribed?
Absolutely, you don't have to unpublish anything you made while the subscription was live. The only thing you can't do is make new books with any designs that you downloaded. Once your subscription ends, you can't use them any more but what you have created during the subscription is fine.
Hi, I make self help journals and planners for Etsy. My books are lined but the lines are within the margins. What format do I follow for the interiors of the book?
Hello Mam, I just wanted to ask a question about the picture quality of the book cover. After printing does the picture quality of the book cover got reduced or enhanced or remain as it is? Please let me know so that I adjust the color accordingly. I am confused about it.
Make sure your cover is 300 dpi, the print quality for your book will be what you produce in your pdf. The thumbnail image that Amazon shows on your sales page is reduced quality to allow the Amazon platform to load faster. But the book is unaffected.
Hola Nuria! Puedo preguntarte algo? He creado una portada con canva y descargado enpdf listo para imprimir. You are such an excellent teacher! I am soooo confused on creating coloring books in Canva with the paid version. I have watched your videos countless times. I'm wondering if you would please make a video showing "step by step" how to use black and white png files to create coloring pages in Canva??? I have downloaded images that I have purchased in the png format. When I try to overlay the images in the paid version of Canva there is a white background that is not transparent :-( If I make the image transparent then the back image shows thru the front image. I have spent days trying to figure this out. Let's say that I have a dinosaur image (png) and I want to make him look like Halloween? I have my dino image in Canva and then I take my Pumpkin image, make it smaller and place it where I want it on the coloring page... the white background of the Pumpkin covers up the dinosaur! Please help! What am I doing wrong? I think if you would make a very, very simple video for beginners using the paid version of Canva it would help a lot of people. Thanks so much for all you do!
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comment! I made a video a while ago about colouring books: ruclips.net/video/1CHpQb1rtd0/видео.html I hope this helps, but if not, let me know and I'll try and help further.
@@TheHomeBoss Thank you so much for your reply. I have watched the video you suggested many times... LOL and watched it again this morning as a refresher! The issue that I am having is "layering" png black and white images on a coloring page. For instance, I have a png line drawing of a dinosaur; I want to ADD a png line drawing of a pumpkin to make it Halloween in Canva. No matter what I do, it doesn't work :-( I have tried for days... I'm sure I'm missing something. Since you are such a great communicator and teacher, I'm wondering if it would be helpful to a lot of people if you would make a video showing EXACTLY the steps "on the screen" from downloading the file from Creative Fabrica to uploading the complete file to Canva and continue showing the steps in ridiculously EASY steps to layering images in Canva. I know this is all very elementary but I have a feeling there are a lot of folks out there that are possibly too embarrassed to ask for such simple instructions as in "assuming" that those you are teaching "know nothing" and/or "very confused." I think it would be very beneficial and could be a really short video. You, unlike a lot of others, seem to "really care" about your followers! Thanks so much for listening!
@@janmccracken2632 I am definitely going to make that video and thank you so much for explaining! Sometimes as teachers we forget to explain the really basic things because we're so used to doing the same things over and over that we forget that it's not actually that clear to everyone. I wonder whether the problem you mention is to do with setting the layers to the front or to the back. Have you tried this? I will definitely go over the basics.
@@TheHomeBoss Woo Hoo! I'm SO excited that I reached out to you! Thanks so much for your response and the commitment to make the video for wee little beginners! You are amazing! About the layers... the issue is not about setting the images to the front or the back... If you would like me too send you a screenshot and/or more information on what I have done that's NOT working, I'll be happy to help in any way I can... just let me know. I agree with you completely on the basic things as they are merely repetition for you. When you break away and say, "okay, I've uploaded my files".... I tried searching everywhere for answers but nothing definitive. Can you explain how I can fix a quality issue? I’ve made a cover and interior with color, downloaded as Pdf print, uploaded it without error, but the upload preview is blurry. I don’t understand, how do I fix this? 3 off my other covers are perfect no quality issues. It’s just this particular project. I’m doing nothing different.
@@TheHomeBossawesome. It’s live and ordered an author copy. So hopefully no more editing. I spend 2 weeks on it. I have a full time job already so I already had a limited time and learning several new things at once was time consuming
It depends on the type of book, but I wouldn't use the same titles. Uploading different covers for the same interior is only ok for notebooks, log books, that kind of thing. For colouring and activity books and any books that should have a unique interior, you are risking your account if you upload them with different covers.
@@TheHomeBoss Thank u for Your information! Now i have a activity log book interior, can i upload it same keyword and description with deferent cover, title & subtitle! I'm so confused, please help me to give me your valuable information!
@@mkiraton5815 No, you can't upload the same interior of an activity book with different covers. Imagine if a buyer buys your book. Then they look for a different book and buy the one with the different cover, thinking that the interior will be different. Amazon doesn't like to give bad customer experiences. Your risk your account by doing that.
The issue you'll run into Red and Green is colorblindness..you are targetting those that are color blind whom can't see those colors. So, often times those colors like Green and Red are to be avoided. The exception would obviously be the actual vegetable or fruit picture. Here is where you may need an outline for the letters or a shadow for the letters...so there are other options if you choose not to change the title from the red. ** A joke, according to my psychology book, the Color Blind, will see the Red or Green Title as apparitions, grey bubbles that are pixilated. Not much different than a Polaroid Picture."
OMG, I'm assuming these dimensions are lost into oblivion each time. I tried using my old template...oie, vei...then tried to round about relook for possible errors...nah..didn't work a good 15 plus templates later. However, guess what, with the first listen at your video on RUclips it worked the first time. So I'm a little confused why the template wouldn't work for a different book cover, exact same dimensions. The issue now is sketchy internet online service...providers not doing such a great job...or maybe its the router syndrome..you know blame it on the computer...like getting bad directions.
Page turn direction is correct because it refers only to reading direction and when you first open a book..the book cover..is moved to the left as you open to read.
That's not correct. There is a free version of Canva and you can use their free images. I have the pro subscription and can use all images. If you have the free version and you want to use the pro images then you need to pay for any pro image that you want to download.
@@TheHomeBoss Some images are free but to, make covers they are asking for you to pay. I had the pro too. I just tried the free and it asked for a payment to download the cover. I think LULU would be better. I'm gonna try lulu for my covers from now on.

@@TheHomeBossawesome. It’s live and ordered an author copy. So hopefully no more editing. I spend 2 weeks on it. I have a full time job already so I already had a limited time and learning several new things at once was time consuming
Can i upload same Title, Subtitle, interior, Description and keyword with deferent cover?
It depends on the type of book, but I wouldn't use the same titles. Uploading different covers for the same interior is only ok for notebooks, log books, that kind of thing. For colouring and activity books and any books that should have a unique interior, you are risking your account if you upload them with different covers.

The issue am having designing book with spine in canva

My Canva looks diffrent and is unusable looking for new method 💢
NOT FREE ANYMORE ON CANVA! THEY MAKE YOU PAY PER DOWNLOAD
