@@Quoi.Phoque It does not take a lot of ESD to fry a motherboard. Hes not gonna get hurt, but the components easily could. RAM + motherboard components can fry if you’re not grounded easily especially in a high ESD environment (Humid areas). An anti static matt or band takes like 15 seconds to put on, takes a whole lot longer to resolder a fried node or replace the motherboard I’ll give it to you though that with modern components, this isn’t as much of a problem. But it’s still best practice. And when handling other people’s computers, ya shouldn’t risk it man.
Great channel Greg! FYI 3:45 It is much more safe and effective to use a clean soft paint brush brush to dust here , I have seen small surface mount components get snagged using this method and pop off ask me how I know. 😅... I use an air compressor (cans are expensive and they are useless) outside for the bulk stuff then with a soft brush in conjunction with the compressed air works the best for me.
as soon as I seen the Ostrog case I knew it was an old PC. I used the red version of that case for my build, before the one I have now. And the one I have now I built like 4 years ago.
I'll never understand this trend now of making the cables go down, like, there's already sagging happening, and instead of helping reduce it by making the cables go up you worsen it? For what? A bit of aesthetics? Which is arguable since i don't really like how it looks.
@@Adam-tt7kx Hobeslty, I think it has as much to do with old boards as it does cable orientation. On my past build, my MSI 1070 (very similar to the one in video) had sag issues. On the new build, my Gigabyte 3070 has literally no visible sag despite being WAY chunkier
Ohhh yeah been there before, a few times. One guy I know NEVER cleans his PCs or at least never used to. He would buy a brand new high end Computer let it run for 2+ years (never shut it off & never clean it) & they would die & he would buy a new one. I re built his last crashed Cyber Power PC & every Fan was Plugged to the point they could not spin... Sigh a simple b job every now & than would solve all that. This advice works for Dating issues too I am told
they would die? o.o my office PC has been left on 24/7 since 2008 and cleaned like once in 2017. you can't even see the mobo for the dust inside it, It's my little project I'm trying very hard to kill it but it won't die. he must've had some really shit computers...cause this thing is DOG shit but chugs on.
@@cerberrrus2315 lmao! it could be because there's less fans and less airflow, so there's less dust clogging it up. I know that some office PCs are built to be small and quiet.
@@cerberrrus2315 Gaming/workstation computers are used hotter for longer periods of time, though. As well as the components typically being higher wattage too.
Damn, those burnt caps on the back of the GPU. I considered myself semi retired from the tech support field, but this year I've cleaned and installed more work for friends and family that on the last 5 years, got a lot of nasty pictures of hard paste, dust mattress (yeah, mattress, not bunnies), people that tore down their laptops because they couldn't tolerate the fans and brought to me Sunday afternoon "uhhh... can you fix it? I need it to remote work Monday morning". After that they're like "wait, so the computer isn't supposed to sound like a turbo engine? I can't even listen to it and is so fast, what did you do?" heavy thermal throttling, and was usable even with an HDD after cleaning, I begged them to get an SSD because I was out of them (I buy some every now and then, again, for friends and family). Just a question, what thickness pads do you use on GPU and VRM (if it's even the same), see you changed some and leave others, I assume you didn't had that same thickness
Great video idea! For the next Episodes try and get an aircompressor (better for the environment than those air cans and more power). Also try and get some anti static brushes. They make cleaning off dust and stuff way easier.
So satisfying that you let her pull that plastic film off. That's the best part of new electronics. Also very nice of you to give her a new cooler and a new PSU.
Good call, Greg. I have been skipping most videos of techtubers in the last weeks because there is no hardware that can be bought (kind of) and I am not interested in the old hardware.
We moved everything over to a new case a few days ago for my Frankenstein build (parts acquired from friends). One of my friends helped move it over as I didn't have the confidence. I ended up having to reseat the CPU cooler myself since it kept popping CPU overheat upon boot. I came across your videos and you now have a new sub!
I’ve been recommending to lift rigs off the floor. Make yourself a wooden platform you can support on a wall with a french cleat. This will reduce the dust build up in your system. Also, if you have dogs it will also keep dog hair out of your system. If you can’t put the system on the wall, put it up on a desk or another piece of furniture off the floor. The higher off the floor the better.

RAM + motherboard components can fry if you’re not grounded easily especially in a high ESD environment (Humid areas). An anti static matt or band takes like 15 seconds to put on, takes a whole lot longer to resolder a fried node or replace the motherboard
I’ll give it to you though that with modern components, this isn’t as much of a problem. But it’s still best practice. And when handling other people’s computers, ya shouldn’t risk it man.
Had to go back to the beginning of the series. Looks like most old PCs are rocking 4th gen Intel. Must have been good times 😂
"Back in the dayyyy" ~ Grandpa Greg
Lul
Honeestly? That pink case looks really freaking good
You sir have a heart of gold when I saw that you upgraded the PSU with such humility I subscribed like lightning fast ;))
me who has dirtier PC than this one.
"yup. i think mine's gonna explode or just gonna die instantly."
You need to do this as a monthly or a biweekly series. This was so satisfying.
Lol bi-weekly would be brutal on him.
@@alexandsimba Bi-weekly is a stupid nomenclature, it could mean twice a week or every other week. Same with bi-monthly, twice a month or every other.
Bi-weekly means twice a week. Its obvious he meant fortnightly.
Greg, you are the cleverest and at the same time the kindest PC-tech person I've ever seen. I love your contents.
I'm straight up addicted to this series...i watch it twice a day and it helps me cope with my ocd....i have a problem lol
Go in for a clean and leave with a new psu and cpu cooler.
If only getting my car cleaned would result in some uprgrades.
Need her reaction video when she got it back, nice upgrades for her and hopefully she'll dust this one every week.
I half waited for him to say "Hey guys, GregFix here!"
ChrisFix collab when?
Lmao I am a fan of ChrisFix too! I hope they get to collab on a awesome project once the pandemic is over.
Wtf I too I yust watch again Drift stang lol
Car engine powered PC anyone?
how would it work? a driving pc? xD
@@millerrr4782 its a literal driving SIM
Wow, that was so satisfying, now I'm motivated to clean my pc. Gonna see 15years of dust build up.
so been watching your videos for a couple months now. I have to admit im glad you started this series. It is actually relaxing,

I'm watching at 1.5x speed, so I got the nightcore version.
you mean tempo? lmao
@@mitlanderson yeah likely yes. I'm not familiar with music terms hehe
@@mitlanderson bpm if you really want to get technical lol
idk why but i just love seeing pink cases lmao. so obscure to see from such a male heavy community (diy pc stuff) til maybe mid 2010s.
🙌🏾🙌🏾
My mom comes from the 1970's and she played all games back then.
But the black is way more beautiful xD, well never liked pink any way, specially on Electronics
Yes! My favorite color is personally blue but I like pink on my gaming stuff when I can cause it makes me happy!
I want pink and/or purple gaming stuff 🤩
Looking into saving for a custom keyboard
Great channel Greg!
FYI
3:45 It is much more safe and effective to use a clean soft paint brush brush to dust here , I have seen small surface mount components get snagged using this method and pop off ask me how I know.
14:19 The GPU sagging......
this is what i came to the comments for smh its killing me
I'll never understand this trend now of making the cables go down, like, there's already sagging happening, and instead of helping reduce it by making the cables go up you worsen it? For what? A bit of aesthetics? Which is arguable since i don't really like how it looks.
This is the way!
It’s a thick boyyyy
@@Adam-tt7kx Hobeslty, I think it has as much to do with old boards as it does cable orientation. On my past build, my MSI 1070 (very similar to the one in video) had sag issues. On the new build, my Gigabyte 3070 has literally no visible sag despite being WAY chunkier
Man that was really good!!
I would've love to see her reaction!
She was probably sooo happy ~
Its amazing the worlds these chips have opened up for us, I cant wait to see pc's 20 years from now.
Great video series idea! Thanks for the video
Thanks for the support!
With all those dust bunnies, I am surprise you didn’t find a rabbit skeleton in there!
Well done Greg, this should serve he well for more to come. Your ethics are right on man, good man.
Yo, you are such a homie. You even got her new parts to make sure the build works stable, you rock!
My misses peeled my plastic off my first ever build last year. Sadest day of my life so far
love these videos, but would be nice if you could run a benchmark before and after & also measure the temperature difference in both cpu & gpu
So satisfying that you let her pull that plastic film off. That's the best part of new electronics.
Also very nice of you to give her a new cooler and a new PSU.
I don't know why YT recommended me this. But I love it!
Good call, Greg. I have been skipping most videos of techtubers in the last weeks because there is no hardware that can be bought (kind of) and I am not interested in the old hardware.
the best part if this is that we always see builds on channels but never breakdowns and then the cleanings a nice extra!!!
Nice to see something different rather than constant CPU and GPU builds with components that you can’t buy.
Get ready man I live near Orlando and my pc is like 2x worse lmao
Make sure you are using cheap PSU and cpu cooler man.
you ain't no grill
This person is the best PC service person ive ever seen or heard. Instead of only cleaning it she got some new parts
these cleaning videos are awesome! keep up the good work
Glad you like them!
Legends say he got a boost of 15 FPS in every game.
He?
Probably would. That 4790k struggles at turbo boost on newer games let alone under that stock cools. R

We moved everything over to a new case a few days ago for my Frankenstein build (parts acquired from friends). One of my friends helped move it over as I didn't have the confidence. I ended up having to reseat the CPU cooler myself since it kept popping CPU overheat upon boot. I came across your videos and you now have a new sub!
man, this had no business being so good!
That’s so nice of you to upgrade some of the parts for her 🤧✋
I’ve been recommending to lift rigs off the floor.
You actually include the name of the songs, good job man 🙂
"Sorry Courtney." lol
Man what a gem, enjoy the cleaning and setting up vidoes. Appreciate that you showed the way to organize the cables! Learned something that I can do for my own pc :D
This is more like a detailing, then cleaning.
Courtney is laughin'! Deep cleaned PC, free upgraded PSU and CPU cooler! Only thing that got me with the build was the GPU sagg. Overall, awesome work Greggy boy.
Bro I love the way the clean it piece down the to component level! Excellent! work!
That's a great idea!
Who's here just to watch the satisfaction of him cleaning the dirtiest PC that I have ever seen in my life?
That is an IMPRESSIVE hair cake you pulled off the heatsink. Holy wow I bet that was satisfying.
