    😢 Right now, I am having this issue. My puppy use to eat by imitation.
    What I mean, I use to have two dogs, both of them use to eat together and the puppy use to eat everytime my old dog ate, but now she has pass away and puppy sometimes refuse to eat.
    Dunno, if my puppy miss, my old dog companion, or she simply stop liking her food, because when I give fruits and other stuff she happily grab it.
    Today, is one of these days... So have decide to transition from puppy bag food to home made.
    Glad I have found your videos.

    I think it should be mentioned that when raw feeding, "texture" can be problem for many dogs. In these cases, feed it partially or mostly frozen, not completely thawed. For things like liver that a lot of dogs don't like due to texture, try the frozen route, or freeze dried or dehydrated. There's also the common issue of dogs taking an enthusiastic interest in their food, then they turn up their noses at it another day. Variety is the spice of life! Mix up the proteins. I have a picky Husky and she drives me up the wall with her eating habits. My two doodles though are good eaters!

    Chicken bone broth from Costco (low in sodium a little bit of protein) pour over other foods or give straight
    Canned dog foods - digestive formula such as Rachael Ray.
    Lean chicken - make sure they get a little carb and vegetable with it
    Lightly cooked broccoli, lightly cooked carrots, canned green beans, rice

    I was able to overcome this by using organic Kiwi dehydrated food from New Zealand

    My pup refuses pretty much all wet food and kibble ... he is not keen on packed raw either...
    Home cooked on the other side he litteraly gobbles up. I've been cooking for him for last few weeks and still looking for a good commercial food to move him onto. He is only 5 months so Im worrying he doesn't get everything he needs from homemade meals...

      If your dog is doing well with home-cooked why are you wanting to switch to a commercial dog food? Why not just find a balanced home-cooked recipe? There are plenty free balanced recipes online...

      Terrible drugs they could ruin your dog’s liver, and everything else. Try approaching this in a more natural and holistic way.

    I would say first step is to talk to your vet to rule any potential health issues! When they stop eating is their first way of communicating to us that something's wrong with them (in the case that they do have an issue of course).

    • @thedognutritionist
      @thedognutritionist  Год назад +2

      Vets aren't trained in gut health or nutrition, so it's often the case that advice isn't of the highest quality or accurate for that matter. We need to understand our dog's health to the best of our abilities.

      @@thedognutritionist indeed but I mean health issues in terms of something else related to food and digestion. For example; having pain somewhere etc. Also, you talk about vers in general but there are vets out there that are just pearl and amazing and always keep on being trained

    What would you suggest for a giant dog that’s still growing? Our 1yr old girl is off food but still has about 6 months of growing to do so going without food for long periods seems pretty concerning

      @@alysonprice1458 no sorry she's a carpathian/mioritic cross. She eventually started eating again without any consequences but still goes off her food whenever she's in season or having a phantom pregnancy - hoping to get her spayed now she's stopped growing but she has severe separation anxiety so we're waiting till that's resolved or at least much less severe

    Is it okay to use the same method with a fussy puppy? 🤔

  • @rachelllewellyn1484
    @rachelllewellyn1484 Год назад +2

    Dogs aren’t fussy …. They know what is good food and what their bodies need. They self select very well. Owners need to improve what they’re feeding and variety is key. Processed foods are not the answer. Owners often over feed. Meal times should be varied. Some dogs will fast and rest their pancreas and gi tract.
    Offering fresh food like likely cooked or raw with variety in textures, proteins, bones, offal and some inclusion to some plant matter where a dog will enjoy its eating experience
    Offering it inappropriate food is not the answer. Your dog is refusing it for a reason. Follow the dogs lead.

    Hi I have a dog that isn’t eating , vet says no problems health wise apart from a phantom pregnancy . We have had SBT for over forty years and are totally all over fussy dogs , but our young bitch Mali is a whole new ballgame ! She always refused dry food . So we tried her with RAW as advised over a few days with cooked meat as I had been giving her . After a week I gave up . Then she slowly began to refuse cooked chicken , roast pork , lambs hearts, ox hearts both boiled lightly , diced raw beef was the last to go. After three days I bought tinned tripe - no interest at all . So reluctantly I gave in to raw tripe , a food no dog alive doesn’t love . Or so I thought .
    No interest just a face of disgust . So also went at various points over 7 months , eggs, turkey , raw or cooked dog ready meals , minced meat of any kind cooked or raw .
    I don’t like to admit to being beaten but I am . And of course all this was done with picking up waiting putting back down next mealtime , then next day for three days before changing the food , and I didn’t like doing this to a growing Cane Corso pup now 11 months , believe me . Now she has a phantom pregnancy too which in this breed apparently makes them go off their food ! Help !!!
