    I grew my flowers last year, and made 2 oils. Then I made some lotion bars, and lip balm. So far, I've had good results with both, samples getting good feedback. Now I'm starting the spring garden indoors to get a jump on the season. Looking forward to digging the dirt!
    Great teaching video, thank you.

    Also, I helped in a garden in Ireland, where the gardener 'popped' the flowers heads off if they were starting to degrade/die off (because the plant could send its nutrients to the 'better working flowers')... when I have my future garden, would it be advised to collect and dry these stages of the flowers to turn into oils?

    Hi Emilia,
    Oils go rancid by light and heat, if it is not that hot or not that direct of a light then sure. A bag may be used to block some of the direct light.

    Your channel is lovely, thank you for the tutorial. Just started learning about making homemade remedies! Can this oil be used to further create a shea/beeswax base thick cream or chapstick? Would warming the oil (in the windowsill as advised) break down the beneficial healing components of the organic flower?

    Hello, is sun flower oil better for the skin than it is for eating? Is CAlendula oil made from fresh flower worse for storing; how long can it store? Should one add some preserving substance or essential oil, please?
    I once made Calendula oil letting it draw the goodness out in olive oil for acouple of weeks, which i ave done with St Johns Worth several times with success and the right scent. The CAlendula oil smelled strange though, off, pugnant, and I have always wondered why, whether I id something wrong, or whether I should add some essential oil, since it just may not have such a nice scent itself. I should be grateful and glad for answers. :-) Thanks.

    hello! thanks for the video. what other oils can I use for this? and is there a difference between the type of oil i use for cooking and oil to be used for a salve? I have organic cooking olive oil at home.

    • @JoanMoraisCosmeticsSchool
      @JoanMoraisCosmeticsSchool  9 лет назад +2

      You can use different liquid oils, whatever you prefer. Olive oil works just fine, it is a heavier oil and has a stronger scent, you can use the same you use for cooking. Different oils have different properties, matters what you are looking for.

      Yes you can Dry the flowers but don't use excessive heat in the drying process.
      I try to keep the temp from 100-110 Fahrenheit
      I have been extracting the healing properties of herbs almost 40 years.
      I make ointment from Calendula, antirrhinium linaria, and plantago major.
      The first two do the healing. The plantago major is Rich in natural sulphur.
      This sulphur acts as a germocide to keep the injjury from getting infected.
      My bcp ointment was used on everything from diaper rash to sun burn, and finally in a burn Ward.
      AMAZING stuff.

      I'm doing a calendula cream as a medication for wound healing for my final year project. Should I use the essential oil or infused oil like this? If I'm making the oil on my own, can I use pre-bought dried calendula flower or should I use fresh ones and then distill/cold press it? Or is it better for me to ditch oils and use calendula extract which I have prepare myself?

    • @MatoNupai
      @MatoNupai 7 лет назад

      I woukd not use essential oil because of the alcohol in it.
      What i do is get the dried flowers mix with base material (shortening, lard, etc. Heat base material and flowers till they turn dark brown-black and pour through mesh screen or cheese cloth to filter out the herbs.
      Never used infused oil so cant help you there.

      Diana Turner yes grapeseed would work too. so would jojoba or almond oil. they are all considered extraction oils.
