    I was in a car accident years ago and the skin on half of my face from my forehead down past my nose was shredded. I called the top plastic surgeon in Sydney and asked him what he recommends to his top clients for scarring and he said get some high grade calendula. I told him he wasn't understanding how severe my injuries were, again he told me this was his greatest secret, he said just keep putting it on and try not to let it dry. So I used it all day (applied min. 20 times a day) every day for a month and now the only remnants of the accident is one short eyebrow where the hair never grew back (I just tattoo it in or draw it on). I'm growing my own plants and making some skin care cream using it. That surgeon made me a diehard fan of the calendula plant ever since, I tell anyone who has any skin issues to use it.

      I think if you're putting anything on min 20 times a day it's probably gonna do something

      Interesting, thanks for sharing. If this can do that, imagine what some of the other "stronger" herbs could do!

    I love this flower. It smells amazing. I did have some cucumber Beatles and snails living in them but the plant prevailed.

    Thank you, Morag! I love all your videos!
    I live in Colorado and we've already had 3 snow storms this fall and about 3 weeks of frosty nights but my calendula is still blooming with new flower buds opening every few days. I love that this plant is so hardy and resilient, poking out beautiful yellow heads even through 4 inches of snow!

    I went from one calendula plant, transplanted from a customer’s garden where I was asked to dig it out, to a bed full in one year! It has been absolutely prolific (south coast UK) and I have started eating it as a green vegetable. I have real problems with my cabbages and other traditional greens getting attacked by everything from pigeons to slugs, even with the marigolds around. Rather than persist with plants that are a hassle to grow, I am allowing the easy stuff to grow and accumulate. I will be drying some heads for salves and creams too. Useful home crafted gifts for friends. Sadly my chickens seem to turn their beaks up when I give them the leaves, which is odd as they normally go for everything but the onion family.

    Good to know! I'm just south of where you are (an hour or so) and kept my seeds all winter long not realising they grow best in winter here? I planted them in winter and they're just now starting to flower. Oh well, I'll plant more towards the middle of summer and see if they mature in time and last me through all winter. Thanks for another great video!

    Love calendulas. So cheery and so useful. And self seeds for me every year. I just pull out the seedlings, where I don't want them. Can be taken internally as well as antibiotic, though it is very bitter.

    I grew Calendula from seed last year, zone 7 US, and was amazed at how easy they are to grow.. and how long they bloomed.. throughout summer up until december!
    just wondering if you can recommend any other flowers that are as easy, hardy and long blooming as calendula?

    I think the previous owner knew a lot about growing plants for health as these plants and others are everywhere in my garden. But the Calendula seem a bit prolific and spread where they're not wanted. If I want to pull some up and give to friends, are they good at transplanting?

    Hi Morag, I've been trying for 3 years to grow calendulas without success, they don't bloom much and their leaves have yellowish spots all over. I was wondering if my area is not good for calendulas because I don't see in the other gardens. I live in Virginia.

    No pest problems? Being in the Marigold family, I'm concerned about slugs here. they masacred my Marigolds last year. Also have every kind of rodent/chipmunk/squirels/rabbits and Whitetail Deer that love to eat my stuff... Any idea if they are an issue with Calendula?

    How does calendula cause menstruation or miscarriage? Does it increase estrogen?

    I've just planted a punnet of these around a Chilean guava in a wine barrel - your calendulas look pretty big, so now I'm worried I've done the wrong thing ...

    • @MoragGambleOurPermacultureLife
      @MoragGambleOurPermacultureLife  5 лет назад +2

      Please don't worry. If they look like they are getting big, just give them a little trim. I am also thinking that in a tub, they are unlikely to get quite as big as ones planted in the ground. Best wishes and happy gardening.

    Hi Morag, just wondering what size your lot was roughly?

    • @MoragGambleOurPermacultureLife
      @MoragGambleOurPermacultureLife  7 лет назад +2

      Hi Andrew, the size of my garden is 1 acre, but a lot of this is natives, bushtucker, and kangaroo paddock. The area of the main garden and food forest would be less than 1/4 acre.

      Thanks Morag. We are considering an eco village lifestyle, but are deciding on what block size we would like/need.
      I see you have community gardens as well. Do you work often in these as well as your own private garden? Some of the plots have access to the gardens, whilst other larger ones do not. Thanks :)

    • @MoragGambleOurPermacultureLife
      @MoragGambleOurPermacultureLife  7 лет назад +1

      The size you need really depends on what you have planned. For a domestic scale permaculture garden and food forest large acreage is not required. At the moment, most of my gardening is done in my own space - I am homeschooling and this space is their classroom too. I love being surrounded at home by an abundance of food.
