I'm going to grow this flower now. I want to make some of this. My hands get so dry. *Please have your mom do some videos with you on how she makes the herbal concoctions.
Would you make more videos like this? I find this so useful because it's utilizing things from my garden; I'm trying to figure out the things I can do with a newly planted Elderberry bush. Thank you for the great info!
Elderberry Flower Syrup is wonderful. You only need a little syrup with club soda, and you have a special treat. You can also mix the syrup with apple juice. I bought an Elderberry just for that purpose. You use the flowers to make the syrup. There are some Tutorials online.
Clinical herbalist here - the best calendula varieties to use are the ones that are super resinous and sticky under the bracts and you want to be sure to include the green bracts in your infused oil. :)
Omg this opens a WHOLE new can of worms for me..... WHAT ELSE IS THERE?!! I want to learn all the herbal things!!! I can’t wait to try something like this. Can you let us know what Momma Andrews says about it?? And get more recipes please ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Miranda Beaudry there is SO much! I started all natural beauty and just researching you can learn so much! I went vegan and organic and found out more about all natural medicinal things. It’s way too much for me to even type out. Just research. You won’t regret it. Etsy is full of amazing women who make their own cosmetics, body care, medicinal salves, oils, etc. once you open that knowledge for yourself, it’s endless. I would be so interested in videos with Mama Andrews about all this too!
Egusta Gomez I’ve definitely researched very lightly in the past just enough to know that it’s an entire world of info! I have some work to do! I’m all about organic lifestyle so it’s right on par.
This is so exciting! I would suggest however that if this still makes Benjamin’s skin “angry” to try it without any added fragrance. I need to use unscented products and always notice redness and irritation when I use scent. Essential oils aren’t exempt from this. Also, finding a gentle lotion containing colloidal oatmeal could work for him. But I do hope that this salve works 😊
Amazing. From being beautiful, decorative flowers, to posing as aphid magnets, to being able to become a balm made out of 4 ingredients...that's nature and human interaction at its best. Thank you.
I use to own a candle business....To keep the the aroma vivid , add the fragrance in once you remove from heat . At the cool down temp of about 110-120 . Bees wax , paraffin and soy have different melt points . Fragrance oils have flash points as well . Best to add when below the melt point temp . Those look amazing . I’ll have to try this as well .
That’s sweet baby is so funny and he still couldn’t find his dad I just love y’all so much I have been watching y’all channel for 5y Now and y’all are the ones that I look for everyday before I watch anyone else I just love how y’all are as a family making things work and how you and Erin Cut up And smile at each other even though we can’t see what he is doing Love Y’all Thanks for all y’all do for us Judith Ambrose (Back To My Garden Roots)
I love calendula! I want to make this salve for my hands. I've been harvesting and using calendula flowers, for my stomach, for many years. I dated an herbologist when I was 20 (I'm 57, now! Wow! How did that happen?!?) and learned the benefits of it and chamomile together in a tea for upset stomachs. It is amazing! I learned a lot from him. I'm very thankful for it, too! I think I will put a little bit of bee's wax in my slave and leave off the lavender. I don't do good with a lot of scented things. Thanks Laura! This is great!
Very cute would loved to see your mom giggle when you give it to her...... Hand it to her out the car window.... Stay safe and healthy...Hugs from Minnesota
Hey Laura! I know it’s been several years since you posted this video. I grew calendula this summer and harvested and dried the blooms all summer. Just made the salve this morning. It looks beautiful! Thank you for such educational and fun ideas! You have been such an inspiration.
Hi Laura, I absolutely adore your vlog! I remember why is you asking if we thought your mom should start blogging and all of a sudden it hit made that she should do something like this you know because I would love to know more about herbs and what to do with them and how to make a lotions and healing salves, anyting medicinal, candles etc... Of course I would absolutely love to see you do that also or the both of you together because I think your mom is a wonderfully sweet lady and very knowledgeable and I just adore both of you and let's not forget are named Benjamin also! Anywho just a thought. God bless all of you guys!
My Grandma used to make this and it's wonderful! Thank you so much for showing it. Would love to see more things like this ...can you pick your Mom's brain and ask her if she will share? You're amazing and appreciated!
Loved this! I really like naturally-sourced beneficial products like this. Now I need to grow some calendula. Thank you, Laura! Your mom must be so happy with her gifted salve, and how you absorbed the knowledge she imparted during your youth. She is a wise woman! By the way, the ring you were wearing in this video is beautiful.
Wow fun! I have been making my own salves for about Two years. My kids make fun of me too. I have made this one as well as many many others. I enjoy it so much. It was a treat for me to watch this video. Thanks a lot!
Nice, coffee with Laura and some wonderful homemade salve!!! I love the fact that this is something we could do at the Child Development center and the children would love being involved in it! Also I can do this at home as there doesn't need to be a large growing space for plants!! I live in an apartment and the dirt around my area is full of rocks and not good for growing so I am trying more containers this year and I think this will do great! Love Benjamin there saying " hey where's daddy" he is so sweet, hope this salve works for is face as well as your hands!
I love how you presented making the salve. Most videos I’ve watched were fully recorded indoors which causes me to lose interest. This approach was refreshing like a breath of fresh air!
I've made a version of this recently myself and love it. I have worked with herbs for years and have always been happy with the results. My salve has a few more ingredients- I used both grape seed and apricot kernel oil to infuse my calendula, which worked nicely. I then mixed the oil with beeswax, as you did, but only a little as beeswax is so very hard. I also melted in some cocoa-butter and organic grass fed beef tallow (really). The beef tallow has a tiny odor so I used ylang ylang essential oil which made it smell heavenly. The tallow is worth the little bit of aroma because it is very rich and moisturizing. The result is the richest, most wonderfully hydrating salve you can imagine, and a little goes a very long way.
I love this Garden Answer ! I have been making this for years as well as Dandelion oil for my soaps and salves . It is Dandelion season now & I'm so EXCITED! I go out looking for a clean place to pick them beautiful, healing flowers. Thank you & don't stop! Get you mom to talk about this subject because it is a very important subject that we all not just grow for beauty, but we also learn to plant what we need to survive & prosper! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ God Bless!
Hi Laura x Loved your video. I grow Calendula officinalis and harvest the flowers as they grow. I dry them on top of my Aga hotplate cover and store the petals in small glass jars. I add a teaspoon of dried petals to a cup of boiling water to make an infusion or ‘tea’. When it has cooled, I pour the liquid through a strainer. I soak small cotton wool balls in the liquid and apply to ‘hay-fever’ eyes. An ancient medieval recipe that really works. Xx
Thank you! I definitely want to grow more Calendula and try this. I would like to see more videos like this. How about Elderberry syrup. Maybe your Mom could be a guest??? Keep up the great work!
I loved this video. I’ve been making salves for my family for a while, and now I have requests for more just like your mom used to get. It makes me happy! Thanks for sharing.
So happy you showed how easy it is to make your own salve. My calendula has its first flowers and I've already bought the supplies. Love GA and all the info. Would also appreciate more videos like this if you make other types of medicinal things. Thanks!
So glad you demonstrated this process. I "amped-up" my calendula crop as well with Oopsie-Daisy and Kaleidoscope mix from seed. It's so easy to grow and I plan to make salve with the addition of Lavender essential oil from my farm. Thanks Laura!
Laura I totally concur with other commenters about you doing some herbal recipes with your sweet mom! I am so excited to make the Calendula Salve!!!!!! 🌞🌸
I have used Calendula Salve before from the Farms Market and it does work well. Great now for washing hands all the time, mine get dried out a lot. Show a video of your mother getting hers that would be nice. One thing to use your new flower garden for, good job. You had a person asking about Elderberry bush and we have a Elderberry farm here that makes wine and cough syrup with it, and more. Bought a book many years ago with a friend on Herbs and flower for use and to make things with them. She has done far more then I, she is a science teacher high school and college level, but I'm catching up now. Thanks for the links on Beeswax we used a lot of it and 1oz. would be great, better then shaving it out and measuring it. Stay safe and garden on
Thanks, Laura! I grew calendula from seed for the first time last year expressly for this purpose. I never made my salve because I didn’t want to go back online and look for a tutorial.🙄 Lazy! So, really, thanks for this!😘 They came out beautifully.💗
Hi! And don’t you look so beautiful! I’ve been making sales and homemade soaps for my family and friends (and retail) for 20 years. I started because my hubs had eczema, which have since disappeared for good. My son developed it too and his disappeared after I began using our homemade goods. I would encourage you to add Shea butter and cocoa butter. These are the miracle additions that made all the difference. You must melt them low and slow to prevent graininess (from the Shea butter). As a fellow life long gardener and busy mom, maker, cook, and avid hand washer, You’ll be glad you made these wonder how you ever lived without them!, I promise. Ps. I encourage you to use only therapeutic grade essential oil to steer away form the chemically derived ones. Do-Terra is my fav. Take care.
I make this every year in summer I have my calendula and I soak it in Sweet almond oil or Johoba (spellings) lol and every year we make Chapstick for the fall with it! I always end up with some extra and I just throw it in a larger tub and for that I will put it on boo-boos and I usually add essential oils to that as well like Heli Crisholm or lavender
Laura, it only took me three years, but I finally made my first salve! I saw this when you aired this vlog in 2020. I first had to learn to grow calendula, then how to grow a lot of it. This spring of 2023 had the best growing conditions and, finally, I’ve succeeded. Thanks for your inspiration!
This was a great video and I really appreciate that the content was different. How awesome that you can grow a flower and then make something so amazing out of it. How amazing that your mom was into all of that herbal stuff, and how amazing that it brings back those memories when you were a kid and how now you love those things, cause when we are kids we are never as appreciative as when we get older. Your Mom is so amazing and I love when you share things with her. Thanks again, stay safe and I will see you soon, XOXO, bye for now.
Thank you for the video. You inspired me to make other type of salve out of things in my garden! I have a huge orange tree and I hated to throw away so much orange peels. Now I know what to do with them. I can imagine you open an herbal salve product line soon! People would love your trustworthy products out of your garden!!!
Love it! You should definitely do an apothecary type series. I think it's perfectly appropriate for your channel because it involves growing some of the ingredients. I actually want a medicinal/tea herb garden someday that grows ingredients that allows me to make stuff like this or tasty teas.
My extremely sensitive skin has reacted to everything my whole life (even shampoos and toothpaste!) It tolerates sweet almond oil best. I use Vanicream moisturizing skin cream for my face and body lotion and Vanicream gentle facial cleanser for my body wash in the shower. Hope they can help Mr B. and that he grows out of it!
I love gardening especially gardening like this! i am getting into making products from the flowers in my garden, it's so much fun, makes me feel all witchy x
I agree with everyone else. I would actually love to see more videos like this on how you can make things. I love seeing you cook from your garden, so seeing how you make salves, jams, or anything else food or medicinal would be really awesome.
Talk about timely! With all the alcohol based hand sanitizer everyone is using we can sure use this salve. Helpful and interesting vlog today! Thank you.
Oh my goodness, I love this!! Yes! Yes! Yes! Please do more of this kind of thing! Would love if your mom would share more of her knowledge too! I’ve been making candles, soaps, lotions and potions for about 25 years! I love learning about what we can make just using nature!
You are reading my mind! I was just thinking of salve and I was needing some pointers about raised beds. Your channel rocks! Thank you for your service to us all.
My mom used to do things like boil Sassafras tree bark or roots and make tea, and various things like that and this video made my heart smile thinking about her.
I grew Calendula this year so that I could make lip balms with it. The recipe I had was the infused oil , beeswax and shea butter but the shea butter and beeswax didn't mix very well so I will try again next summer to make it again without the shea butter. I have plenty of seeds to replant this spring!
What a great video Laura! It warms my heart to hear you talk about a memory with your Mom! You two have a wonderful relationship. I waited right to the very end, I always do, I was hoping you would show yourself presenting your thoughtful little gift to your Mom! Love everything you guys do here!
oh boy!! this is right up my alley!! been wanting make things like this forever, so my brain is on fire now with ideas, lol... can't wait to try this!!! how fun! and the color of that salve is soooo pretty!!! let us know how it works!! and YES to the idea of having your mom do some videos on her herbal recipes!!!
I'm watching this one year in the future. Maybe a remake, maybe a series on things you can make savs and concoctions with? I love this video, and am inspired.
I can't believe I missed this oneI started a bunch of Calendula growing this year so i can make this! So glad you made the video! I have always bought from a lady at our local farmers market and it works so well!
I like the idea of grape-seed oil infusing the calendula flower in it by simply setting it on a sunny windowsill. I had no idea there was a difference between say Marigold and the officialnalus (sp?) type for medicinal purposes. Thank you so much for the information. But if one needs it quickly, coconut oil is wonderful at tolerating high temperatures and solidifies under say 80 degrees. I often use coconut oil alone on my face and rashes and sores. It is like a natural antibiotic on sores instead of a triple antibiotic if used regularly and is especially effective with inflammation if used on top of colloidal silver, and it’s great for combatting surface wrinkles when applying at night before bed. It does wonders. It also is great for ingesting in order to stave off and/or heal colon cancer (if one is not at risk for heart disease) and forgetfulness (some term as type 3 diabetes/Alzheimer’s) and Parkinson’s. And it aids in loosening stools for some. Anyway, if it needs to be more solid at higher temperatures since it does loosen up at around 75 degrees, the beeswax idea is a great one. Thank you so much for that, too. I just love your mom.
Thank you, I just love this! I am going to start by growing the plant! I am 70, I could really use this cream! You are amazing! Love you and your channel, please stay safe and healthy. God bless you and your family❣️
L♡VE 🌼 Tell your mom she rocks... Isn't it cool remembering & Loving something that your mom did that you kind of made fun of as a kid... This was Fabulous I have a candle business for over 20 years using beeswax and also have sold Bottled up Essential Oils that I use in my homemade Soaps and lotions ect... BUT I have never thought OR knew how to do this. Thank You So Much One of the greatest little projects thanks again Laura always surprising me every day.. Enlightening & Brightening my Day 🌿🌼🌿 Ps. And I was just trying to remember what plant you said distracted aphids
@@amywiseman3246 Where are you located I usually don't ship because I have trade shows but no trade shows now unfortunately I'm not very Tech savvy and do not have a website Let me know what you are intrested in essential oils or candles
Your mom sounds like a treasure for your family. :) Wishes to know how well the salve works for your family and friends. I would like to make some too. Thank you so much!
I can't wait to try this, my skin is so dry and I love using things without all the chemicals. Wouldn't this be a great Christmas or Holiday gift and how special that you grew it in your garden. Would love more ideas like these. Have you ever made flavored vinegars or oils with things in the garden? 💚💚💚
My Proven Winner calendula arrived yesterday! Love this video- Thanks for showing how gardening joy extends in so many ways. I just contacted my bee guy for a slab of wax
Some how i missed this video when it came out, but im here now! So cute when Ben couldn't see Aaron in the trees "wheres daddy" as he keeps looking around.
Laura, I absolutely love to learn about herbal remedies!!! Especially from things I've grown in my own garden or harvested from the forest nearby. And I did not realize making the infused calendula oil was so easy. I am so growing some this year. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video!!!
Another good reason to be weary of backyard potions. What's next week's tutorial going to be? Alchemy? lol Don't get me wrong. A lot of home remedies are benign (or do nothing at all to remedy a problem). It's just...there are *some* people out there (not all, just some) who are sort of...retreatist. They're "retreating" from modern life and find something charming or quaint with "days gone by." I find it neither quaint nor charming but actually alarming and sort of anti-progress. I know witch hazel (the astringent) is made from a tree but I don't want to make myself. The bottle at CVS is just fine, thank you very much. :)
Cannot wait to grow calendula this year. Calendula salve is $8.95 at our local store. Their ingredients were calendula, olive oil, beeswax and Vitamin E in little tiny jars. I like the tins you used and the addition of lavender extract probably makes it smell amazing! God bless you Laura. You give so much information to help us!!
Love it! We have a sis in law watch party every time a new video comes out. Whoever sees that a video has posted sounds the alarm for the rest of us. We watch, then we discuss!
I made some in February from calendulas that I grew. I made almost the same recipe, except I put a few drops of vitamin e oil as a preservative. The salve is divine! Always love your videos!
Is there anything Laura is not good at? This is super helpful since I'm always more excited about planting and a bit lazy on harvesting, this certainly gives me more incentive to go out and harvest. More projects like this please.
I became sidetracked and blanked out when I saw Benjamin looking for his daddy. I wanted to help him find him he was right behind him. So cute. I love this video though I would love more like this about herbs. I've always been fascinated with herbs and I grow them every single year
There are some flowers like Calendula, nasturtium and cornflower that okay if bits of them or dried flowers themselves go into the salves or even soaps. They are just one of those flowers that will not cause mold or problems. I actually leave what is sieved through in the salve.
I'm going to grow this flower now. I want to make some of this. My hands get so dry.
*Please have your mom do some videos with you on how she makes the herbal concoctions.
Yes!! Would love more of this! Anytime we can get multiple uses out of one plant makes it worth the time/money we invest.
Love this idea!!! Who doesn’t love all natural things❤️
Yes!
sajmt1414 Oh yes!!! I would love to see you and your mom make some garden concoctions together!!!

@@gidget8717 i'd clear any and all of these wacky home remedies with an actual medical physician before using them, especially on a toddler.
Native Americans were using elderberry long before we landed on Plymouth Rick🌧💕💕

Emily Knetzer yes yes yes. Essential oils with fragrance are volatile oils and skin irritants. Just because its natural doesn’t mean its good for ya!
I'd first clear with a pediatrician anything suggested on the web.
When using essential oils it's a good idea to use it with a carrier oil like coconut oil or shea butter.
Laura, you just convinced me to pick up yet ANOTHER hobby! That was a beautiful packaging as well. 😊😊

It's always a good idea to put a "use by" date on the bottom, since oil spoils.
Calendula is the new skincare trend! How fun!
The subject variety is fun. Don't change it. Variety is the spice of life.
I've been using homemade beeswax & olive oil salve for years for eczema, can't wait to try adding some Calendula now! 😊
You are truly the most inspiring innovative RUclipsr ever ever
My extremely sensitive skin has reacted to everything my whole life (even shampoos and toothpaste!) It tolerates sweet almond oil best. I use Vanicream moisturizing skin cream for my face and body lotion and Vanicream gentle facial cleanser for my body wash in the shower. Hope they can help Mr B. and that he grows out of it!
Critter Girl Yes that’s the base I use as well. Sweet almond oil is the best.
Helpful hint. If you get an old cheese grater, great the beeswax before you melt it ,it will melt so much faster.
I love the extra little videos. Going to share this with my daughter because I can totally see her doing this. Thank you Laura
This was great! You should do a series with your mom on more products like this.
My cousin has a calendula farm here just outside of Seattle and her whole business is skin care products made from calendula
I can't believe I missed this oneI started a bunch of Calendula growing this year so i can make this! So glad you made the video! I have always bought from a lady at our local farmers market and it works so well!
Your mom is a wise women. good video.
L♡VE 🌼
Tell your mom she rocks... Isn't it cool remembering & Loving something that your mom did that you kind of made fun of as a kid...
This was Fabulous
I have a candle business for over 20 years using beeswax and also have sold Bottled up Essential Oils that I use in my homemade Soaps and lotions ect... BUT I have never thought OR knew how to do this. Thank You So Much
One of the greatest little projects
thanks again Laura always surprising me every day..
Enlightening & Brightening my Day
🌿🌼🌿
Ps. And I was just trying to remember what plant you said distracted aphids
Lisa, do you sell & ship your products? I’d be interested.
@@amywiseman3246
Where are you located I usually don't ship because I have trade shows but no trade shows now unfortunately I'm not very Tech savvy and do not have a website Let me know what you are intrested in essential oils or candles
I like regular marigolds because they give their seeds abundantly.
I love these type videos. Would like to see more videos on uses for dried herbs and flowers grown in your garden.
Adding calendula to the list for 2022 so I can try this! I would love to see more like this ☺️
Thank you for being so clear for first timers like me. I plan on making them to gift around the holidays.
Feels so nostalgic watching the process and love for nature and learning. This is the life I learn so much.
Loved this! I usually buy items like this at our local farmers market.
Love these diy with homegrown ingrediants! More please!!!!😍😍😍
Your mom sounds like a treasure for your family. :)
Wishes to know how well the salve works for your family and friends. I would like to make some too. Thank you so much!
Thank you! I love herbal stuff. Holistic ways with less chemicals. Hope to see more videos
I knew I loved your mum and do even more now. Please do more videos.
Nice to see a different video! Nice to give as gifts! Of course cutie Benjamin couldn't see his daddy behind the bush!
I love the videos where you use the stuff you have grown. Please keep them coming.
I’m growing Calendula for the first time. Going to make some salve. Thanks for the informative video.
Some how i missed this video when it came out, but im here now! So cute when Ben couldn't see Aaron in the trees "wheres daddy" as he keeps looking around.
I make Cold Processed soap, lotion and candles. I think it is wonderful to have talents like this for everyone to be blessed with.
Laura, I absolutely love to learn about herbal remedies!!! Especially from things I've grown in my own garden or harvested from the forest nearby. And I did not realize making the infused calendula oil was so easy. I am so growing some this year. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video!!!
Very exciting. FYI, for those watching who also have Ragweed allergies, Calendula (& Chamomile) cross react - not great for you.
Another good reason to be weary of backyard potions. What's next week's tutorial going to be? Alchemy? lol
Don't get me wrong.
Love learning about useful things to do with plants!! Please more videos like this 👍🏼👍🏼
Cannot wait to grow calendula this year.
I made a gardener salve, very similar to this without the flower and it is amazing now that we are washing our hands so much!
I made some in February from calendulas that I grew. I made almost the same recipe, except I put a few drops of vitamin e oil as a preservative. The salve is divine! Always love your videos!
My hands would definitely benefit from that stuff. Great video, thanks for sharing.
