After watching one of your videos on Magnesium Lotion, I decided to try it. I am 55 yo. I have had trouble with back spasms, restless leg syndrome, and difficulty sleeping for over a decade. The very first night of using the lotion, I had no spasms, no legs jerking around, and I actually got a couple of hours in a row of sleep! I am now a couple of weeks in, and it is NOT a fluke!!! This stuff works for me!!! What a GIFT!!! Thank you!!! Tried making my own today... fingers crossed I did it right :)
There is a great video from She Is Of The Woods,on how to make your own magnesium oil! Helps saving money if your trying;) Basically half Hot water, half magnesium, but it helps to watch the video, very informative!
@@ritasaragosa3829I agree. I do that all the time. I just buy a canister of the powdered magnesium (which lasts a long time, even if you make it mixed with water as per directions in order to drink it), then mix a teaspoonful of the powder with about a teaspoonful or so of very hot water ( so it dissolves to clear into the water). It will foam up with a "whoosh" and then you will just see clear water. After it cools a bit, I just splash it on my skin (like arms and legs, tummy, etc.) I wouldn't put it on my face only because it may feel a little "sticky" for a while and face delicate facial skin feel a little dry or tight. I keep some around just in case of leg or foot cramps, because splashing it on will give immediate relief. But following the directions on the canister, and mixing it with water to drink, should keep away any muscle cramps anyway, if you use it daily or a few times per week as a supplement.
@@lynnethievin4827 but you won’t get the same concentration in a bath full of water. Rubbing cream with the magnesium on your skin is stronger and more effective.
three quarter olive oil, 5 tablespoons shea butter, 2 tablespoons of beeswax then heat at medium-high heat once it melted, one cup of magnesium oil or Bryne ( ancient mineral brand:) and add to the food processor together just like you would make mayonnaise and you can put essential oil like lavender 96 drops and make it cool put in a glass container and cool it. you can use it for six months
Hope I can get a answer from someone, I know you comment a month ago. I did everything she said last night exactly the recipe, I don’t have a food processor, did in a pan on stove to melt everything. But it was very oily- I let it sit for awhile it never thickened- put in Frig overnight to see if wound set up- it did a little, but still a lot of oil- I tried doing my mixer to get smooth & creamy- but it never did! Waste a lot of ingredients & $. What did I do wrong? Hope could tell me
@@waxiificationexactly, it looks really nice and healthy but, 96 is too much I think putting about 6-8 drops cause is enough, Lavender or any other are very concentrated.
If too oily add a teaspoon to a tablespoon of Arrowroot powder to the melted oil. Add it gradually and break up any clumps with a fork. I don’t use a food processor and have made very nice lotions-not this one.
Magnesium saved my life!!! Around April 2019 I was trying to figure how many more years I could live with the pain in my back before I offed myself! For months I had been seeing this commercial about a product called Theraworx that contains magnesium, and how it stopped muscle cramps in its tracks. A friend tried it and said it was amazing! I have a major muscle group injury in my back that began with a hernia just to the right of my spine. The first time I tried it, tears of relief streamed down the sides of my face!! I hadn't been able to take a full breath in a decade! All of the pain and tension just melted away!! Then I discovered magnesium liquid pills, and with that I was able to relieve pain I wasn't even aware I was having!! So, long story short, thanks to magnesium, I no longer think about offing myself!!
Same! Herniated disks in my neck and pain in every joint. When I discovered theraworxx I cried because the doctor told me I could no longer take Allieve or Advil bc autoimmune disease and my stomach. I didn’t know what to do with the 24/7 pain. Later I discovered 2000 mg of omega 3 fish oil and it got rid of the inflammation of joint pain. I take 400 mg of magnesium (can prev) Glycinate daily now to help prevent inflammation too.
I'm 60 years old and have so much problems with my body I can't wait to try this.i believe Jesus brought me to your channel as I've been asking him to show me what is wrong with me. I'll let you know how it goes
I live alone in a swamp in my van. I take a half used pound jar of mag chloride crystals and pour the best olive oil I can find to an inch above the crystals and just let it soak for a month. I stir a few times. The oil absorbs a lot. I let the crystals that are still solid settle and skim myself some for deep tissue massage. Old people need lots of massage for feet ankles hands and wrists with magnesium. Me old.

I used to make a magnesium muscle balm to use in my massage practice and had tremendous results with it. I found that adding a small amount (like 1 tsp) of potassium chloride took it to the next level.
@@pursuingpurity596 That's a good question. The first time I made the magnesium balm, I added the potassium chloride on a whim (approximately 1tsp to 1 cup of magnesium chloride). I had great success with it and soon used it up. The next batch wasn't the same, not as effective. I thought back to what might be different and remembered the salt substitute I'd added. Every subsequent batch received a touch of potassium chloride and always worked wonderfully. I'm sorry I can't explain why or how it works synergistically with magnesium to relax tight muscles, I only know that it does...

@@Milklatte make that a small walnut😂. And remember if you get more magnesium than you need it will just flush out of your body “naturally” so dont worry!
I was having weird muscle symptoms with my legs feeling kind of shaky and of course I have always dealt with leg cramps. I had a bottle of the magnesium spray and one night decided to start using it. I just a quick 5 spritz spray on my ankle, rubbed it in and used what was on my hands on my elbows. I realized quickly that I needed to do this when I was ready to go to sleep because within about 30 minutes I was out. I would sleep hard for several hours until I woke up to use the bathroom. And then easily fall back to sleep. I stopped using it this summer and have paid for it with muscle and joint aches and my tinnitus seems to be so much worse. So I’m back to using it.
Omega 3 fatty acid 2000 mg helped at the height of inflammation for me due to autoimmune disease. I had joint pain and tinnitus . The pain was so bad that I quit sugar which caused alot of inflammation that quickly ended a year long battle with plantar’s fasciitis. I supplement Magnesium daily as well to keep inflammation in check. Changing your diet really prevents it. Also gluten is a big inflammatory and you don’t have to be gluten intolerant. I hope your health improves , it’s very debilitating to deal with pain. It was starting to break me.
Thank you so much for the recipe. I will try making this as one I made with coconut oil with a blender, separated. I use magnesium daily to prevent restless legs and migraines. I didn't use it for a month or so, and it came back. I got up, put some magnesium oil on the legs, took some internally and 10-15 minutes later was able to sleep.
I'm going to add this, maybe it has been addressed in comments but when you say add shea butter to your 3/4 cup oil until it reaches 1 cup mark you are less 1 TBL of the recipe calling for 5TBL shea butter (1/4 cup is only 4TBL). It seems to be working as you did it so maybe you will want to update your recipe to reflect the actual amount of shea butter you've used. Just a tip not intended as a slam or slight. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for sharing this! I’ve had restless leg syndrome since I was a small child & I’m now 60. It has flared up again much worse than ever before after some very stressful major surgeries I had to have. I use this lotion & it helps almost immediately! I put it on my legs to help stop cramping, too, & on my back where I had surgery -it hurts the most in that area. I have a constant deep ache that gives me other chronic pain & I can’t sleep because of it all. I take oral supplements of 2 different magnesiums & this lotion actually works best! beeswax is not an emulsifier. According to several chemists, any emulsion derived from beeswax is not an emulsion. The derived substance does not act like an emulsion or even a butter. Due to the high viscosity of beeswax and the force applied, water is trapped in the blend.
I’m really happy to find your vid and recipe. I’m also vegan so here’s a vegan alternative to beeswax which I copied from google. “Candelilla wax - As it is plant-based, it is an excellent vegan alternative to beeswax. Candelilla wax has a similar scent and melting point to beeswax, meaning that they can be used almost interchangeably. Candelilla wax is used as an ingredient in skincare products as well as candles and as a glaze in food products.”
I love making my magnesium lotion w/jojoba oil because the molecules in jojoba are able to penetrate deeper than some other oils. I also really like beef tallow as well, though it does tend to go rancid if not used in a timely fashion~ usually not an issue. =) Magnesium is one of those things that nearly all people are deficient in. Every possible way of supplementing it is a good thing! There are now even magnesium "float spas" where you can soak in a big pod full of I believe around 1,500 lbs of dissolved magnesium~ haven't done it yet, but I'd sure like to. =) It's hard to justify spending that much money, as I believe it's around $50 per 30 minutes or so~ yikes! Just found the "Ancient Minerals" brand last year, bought an 8lb bag of the crystal flakes. I think they sell it in 25 & 50 lb qty as well, if a person were getting serious about making mag lotion/oil/salve. Excellent source, imho.

I made this a while back from 1 first video you uploaded, and it 100% stopped my son's growing leg gramps (hes 2) and it stopped my cyatic pains, and helped improve sleep. That being said, notes: add essential oils to cover the smell of the tallow (smells like dog food). Possibly research better emulsifiers (mine seeped over half the magnesium oil out the first day :/) You can do double the magnesium portion to one portion of water for double potency with less possible seeping. Ive recently run out of the oil, and will be making more!😍❤️ Thank you for this video!!!
I make my own magnesium oil. I spray it on every night before bed. I suffer from terrible dreams. As weird as it sounds, it seems to help with a more restful sleep. I need to remember to spay it on when I forget and have a rough night sleeping. Thank you for your videos
So we need to talk about something that seems to be an oversight for you and it’s very important. I tend to pay attention to when people are formulating things to what they could be improving. Just because it’s a lot of time something you don’t even take into consideration what I would recommend instead of putting the hot oil, these wax and Shea butter into your plastic container in the food processor is to let it cool down a bit before you add it. It should still blend up very well and incorporate with the magnesium oil. The reason is is your leach and chemicals from the plastic container so even if you store it in the glass container you’ve already done damage to the lotionby adding hot fluids to the plastic container.
You are a gentle and thorough teacher. Glad I found your channel. My local healthy store encoraged me to use Magnesium supplements (NutraBio Mg). I am sleeping better and my bowels are more regular. I also plan to buy your lotion.

Then I found the wise traditions podcast and it's been life changing. Every single episode is amazing.
Just made this! It was so easy. I used half olive oil and half sesame oil infused with fresh calendula flower and lavender flower, shea butter and a little bit of tallow for my ingredients. I bought your book. Looking forward to trying the recipes. I use Magnesium tablets for leg cramping daily and I'm looking forward to trying trialing this recipe too.
This is very close to the recipe I've been developing, except for a couple of things, so it's a huge help! Thank you. What I'm doing differently is using Emu oil (not vegan/vegetarian friendly, I know) and then using the part of resulting cream as a base for a lotion with magnesium bicarbonate water. I'm wondering about heat. I bought raw Shea butter and all other oils are cold pressed or as minimally processed as possible. So, why would I then heat those above 120° and kill the enzymes that keeping them raw is meant to preserve? My idea to solve this is to melt the wax first, let it cool some, add Shea butter and other oils as the mixture gets closer to their melting points. It seems to me like this is the best way to preserve all the benefits of these amazing oils. Any thoughts?
That's great! I'm definitely not vegan, I love my grass fed tallow :) Yes, I think what you described should work to avoid the high heat. Let me know how it turns out!

I used to make lotions and creams for pain relief. A tip is, it can be much easier quicker and cleaner if you determine the weight of your ingredients by the gram and then measure then into your container. Just tare the scale after each addition. We used stainless steel pots but we we’re making gallons of it. Lip balms and other smaller things we used a regular sized pot. An emulsifier wand is great also for blending. Check to see what temp your ingredients can tolerate before they are rendered inactive. (We could only hear to 160 because of vitamin D.) Thanks for posting this 😊 if I can find all the ingredients (we moved to a new area) I might try this to see if it helps with sleep.

After it cools a bit, I just splash it on my skin (like arms and legs, tummy, etc.)
I wouldn't put it on my face only because it may feel a little "sticky" for a while and face delicate facial skin feel a little dry or tight.
I keep some around just in case of leg or foot cramps, because splashing it on will give immediate relief.
But following the directions on the canister, and mixing it with water to drink, should keep away any muscle cramps anyway, if you use it daily or a few times per week as a supplement.

Hope could tell me
@@cherylrightnour9918you need the blender or food processor to get the ingredients to combine properly.
96 drops of essential oil sounds excessive

What does the potassium chloride do to it?
@@pursuingpurity596 That's a good question. The first time I made the magnesium balm, I added the potassium chloride on a whim (approximately 1tsp to 1 cup of magnesium chloride). I had great success with it and soon used it up. The next batch wasn't the same, not as effective. I thought back to what might be different and remembered the salt substitute I'd added. Every subsequent batch received a touch of potassium chloride and always worked wonderfully. Wow! I am making this as soon as I get the magnesium oil! I have suffered with rls for 20 years!!!
Isn't it incredible? I'm so glad it's been helpful for you, too! I share a similar experience :)

I add some castor oil to help with absorption. I also ass the step of letting the bitter cool a bit them re whipping it so it is creamier.

beeswax is not an emulsifier.

LOVE THIS, THANK YOU!! I made with tallow and sunflower, it came out incredible and has been really helping my back! The consistancy is so wonderful!

I've seen other balms emulsified by using an immersion blender in the glass jar. Tricky thing would be pouring the magnesium slowly into the glass jar while using the immersion blender! I'm still going to try it though. I love Marisa's magnesium lotion am a repeat customer. It works wonderfully for RLS. and Leg cramps.
Great video! I can't wait to try it.
Your little sidekick is very well behaved! (And cute!)
~Much love. :)
I love this! Thank you! One thing I would probably change is blending it in a glass blender so no plastic is leached into the cream. ❤️
if you soak in the tub with those epsom salts, supposedly the magnesium in that will enter your skin and help your body to relax and the organs work better, it's been on Dr. Oz years ago, but use enough of the salt, which I don't know how much you do use, I just heard it on the show and then heard from others that it does work
Thank you Marisa, I'm learning SO VERY MUCH from you and your videos :) sending lots of blessings 🙏♥️
Thank you so much! This comment made my day :)
@@bumblebeeapothecary Marisa you are awesome and extremely sweet :) I would like to know if there's something natural I can pour down the sink due to the fat content (I'm afraid of blockage as I live in England and pipes are all year round pretty much way too cold). Many many thanks!
@@cintiaspataro3205 You could try some baking soda followed by boiling water. Although, I haven't had trouble with it in my drains. Hope that helps!
@@bumblebeeapothecary muchas gracias :) that's what I clean the drains with (and I add a bit of either lemon juice or vinager). MANY many thanks!
new subscriber. really enjoyed the tutorial.....will definitely try this method
Glad to hear it! :)
Hi there...first of all I want to thank you for sharing your recipes :) I am wondering if one should be considering the different forms of magnesium here, or is there only one type that is available for this?
I'm curious if your lotion ever separates. I've been told that beeswax is not an emulsifier. Could you ever do a video on your thoughts on emulsifiers and what your experience is?
Dear Marisa, thank you so much for your great work! I already made a magnesium deodorant, use as spray on my hairs too! I was so amazed that it made my colored hair softer! I wore it couple hours and then washed my hair with a shampoo - and I easily brushed it with no conditioner 😮🔥 Marisa is there a way to use cocoa butter instead of shea in magnesium lotion? Thank you in advance 🤗♥️
This magnesium spray is really truly I life changer. I super recommend it for anyone in pain, tension, stress, anxiety, cramping. If you’re having trouble give yourself some real help you can’t go wrong. And sure you can make nice lotion but using as is just as a much needed remedy and support will absolutely help you. I’ve been through really tough things often and was very depleted, this helped me so much that it’s almost a moral duty to encourage people to try it
Thank you for your video. I love that you are committed to using pure and simple ingredients.
It is sometimes difficult to find natural preservatives and if one does, the prices are not home use friendly.
You’re welcome! It’s great to meet others who understand the importance 😊
I made this with my daughter and it turned out very nice. Thank you.
Oh wonderful, thanks for letting me know! Enjoy! :)
My inflammation is out of control. I went into the shed by Kristy’s trailer to look at cleaning it. Then I cheated and ate ice cream last night…I didn’t wake up until this afternoon. I think it is because I’m now into my 6th day without advil and ibuprofen. OMG, I COULD BARELY OPEN MY HANDS BECAUSE OF THE SWELLING.
(We could only hear to 160 because of vitamin D.)
Thanks for posting this 😊 if I can find all the ingredients (we moved to a new area) I might try this to see if it helps with sleep.
glad I found this right on time ,,, I was just at the lavender festival and came across a vendor that was selling lavender-infused lotion, candles, perfume, and other secrets and she was completely out of the magnesium rub and as a person with chronic pain I was very interested in that and recently was looking into investing in more natural ingredients and the next day your account was recommended on my channel as if youtube was evesdropping on me while I was shopping hah ha .. thank you for posting such easy clear straight forward recipe
I made this recipe and love it. It makes the skin feel so good. I have pain issues, fibromyalgia and arthritis, and put about a teaspoon of arnica powder in a jar of this lotion and stirred it in. It changed the consistency but helps the pain a lot. I wonder if I blended it in the beginning with the oils if it would be smoother, and then add the magnesium. Have you any experience mixing in powders?
Thank you! What a great idea about the arnica! I haven't tried any powders. But I know you can get arnica gel, and I wonder if mixing some of that in would work.
Hi Marjean ,so you recommend this ? Thank you
@@sweetmountainbaby I added arnica and boswellia powders to the warm oil and blended and the consistency was better. I have pain issues as well as sleep issues, hence the powders. For sleeping, Marissa's recipe is terrific. Her recipes show a great attention to detail and feel and look good.
@@marjeanm00re Thank you ,I have tons of brutal pain ! Any recommendations on brand’s please? Hope you get good relief
@@marjeanm00re Hi ,how much of arnica and boswellia please? Thank you
I am going to try this . I was having body cramps( and they were all over my body ) atleast 30 to 40 a day. It was so uncomfortable that i wanted to lie down and have a good cry. I had heard that magnesium helped so i went to
Sam's and found the Magnesium Gummies. Relief was almost instant. I take 2 gummies a day and i no longer have body cramps. Thanks for sharing this lotion idea.
I'm so glad you're in less pain :)
