Thanks for the tutorial. Just one tip: There‘s no need to „Double Tab, Double G“ after CTRL-R. After CTRL-R an click once you can slide the edge to the position you want.

Since a few weeks there's a new feature which makes this much easier. Check Right context menu (shortcut N) > Tool > Correct Face Attributes. Then you can edit the mesh at will and the UVs will follow.

This is great. Been watching Ian Hubert demonstrating similar here on YT world building using just 2D photos. It's amazing what you can get away with. Probably best for movies & animations rather than 3D game development.

Hi @@PIXXO3D , amazing work! I’m looking to learn the photomatch technique to design organic surfaces, then unfold them for plasma cutting to produce steel bases similar to 'Flowyline' designs. Could you make a small course or tutorial on this workflow in Linux? I’m willing to pay for it. Thanks!

Great Tutorial! I made dozens of buildings with this technique.
Should separate the parts that are not the building, make.them separate objects
You can even adjust the buildings by using the UV window to move lines around.
Real is good, but "Family Guy" buildings are really fun and great for 2d render animations.

I would also incorporate the ground, the other wall, and the extra building on the side "separated" as different objects.
The extra building on the side will need the edges adjusted in the UV editor, this will straighten them automatically fixing the perspective in the 3d view
    Rotate the ground 90 degrees
Maybe separate, the "p" key the doors as well

@PIXXO 3D At 18:00 I'd like to know your workflow for how to go about fixing that backside of the added dish object. Awesome tutorial nevertheless, thanks! (Edit: Spontaneously, I'd guess a good method is to add geometry on the main wall mesh and create separate UV islands for that part and then use some part of the image that's kinda yellow/generic, to make it stand out less?)

Great video, thanks! I've been trying to make a model from reference pictures of a relief sculpture, and it looks like this guide will be very helpful. I'm curious, do you take requests? I have something I'd like to do, but I don't know where I would begin. I'm trying to make a mask using square mirror tiles (similar to the mask the musician Blank Banshee wears), with as little cutting down of the tiles as possible, but whenever I attach them to a preexisting plastic mask, they leave a bunch of large, awkward gaps. Is there any easy way to model a 3D shape made of 1cm square faces, or as similar of shapes as possible? Thanks again for the video, I'm sure it'll be very helpful!

  • @derfmode

8:40 why send them out of blender, a free program.. sending them to Photoshop, a paid one… when you could switch to texture paint mode, choose the clone stamp and do it right there on your model with the same exact principle. Just saying, it makes more sense to at least mention that option. I use it daily for quick corrections. Anyways, cool video

Actually I owe it to Lindsay my vfx teacher from 8 years ago. Projection mapping has nothing to do with Ian, he just so happens to also use it. It's been around for years. Ive been using this technique in my own work before Ian Hubert even posted those vids to his channel. You can take any tutorial and find something "similar" on RUclips, especially now that thousand of people upload tutorials. Check my 2017 showreel and you will see examples of my work that used projection mapping if you don't believe me.
