Love your videos, however what does it matter if more men or women are in STEM? It is important everyone does the work they enjoy! Equal representation at the cost of people having to work careers they don't like does not make much sense to me
Your comment, knowingly or unknowingly, perpetuates a stereotype that women don’t ‘like’ STEM roles. They do. The reason there are gaps is because women are not encouraged as much as men to enter these fields and when they do, they are less welcomed. Unfortunately, your comment reinforced that behavior.
@@SalaryTransparentStreet Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it. I do however want to note that many technical university degrees, like engineering, are very highly male dominated. It surely cannot be that the only reason men study engineering is because they got the right encouragement. There must be an inherent interest as well, which the women who already study engineering share, while many other people who study something else have different interests. And at the end of the day, the men/women ratio of people who work in STEM follows the men/women ratio of students who studied STEM.
@@SalaryTransparentStreet And encouraging women who were discouraged from going into STEM but have natural interest is very good of course! I fully agree there. But I don't see it often, I do live in Europe though
The same could be said for teaching, nursing, healthcare - many of those jobs are dominated by women and equally as available to men as they are women. Women go into these roles because they are more common for women, while STEM isn’t. Being welcomed and having awareness of different fields happens usually when people know others like them in that field, but that’s not the case for women in STEM, so it’s a lot harder for them to get equal representation.
