Honestly I found Marianne and Vivek to be very well intended. Ideally this is how people with different viewpoints should argue. I loved it when Marianne agreed to Vivek at 8:49 and at then Vivek pointing out that it is a complicated issue anyway. Very respectful. If we really want our intellect to progress, we HAVE to keep our ego aside.

@@anthonywatson6070 He definitely doesn't understand the layers of private insurance bureaucracy that's added 30-40% of cost to US health care. Profit accounts for a small portion when considering hospital invoicing personnel, insurance company staffing, sales departments, audit, fraud, travel and so on. I have no issue for private insurance companies if it's like that of Europe for those who want private rooms, plastic surgery, and other supplemental coverage. I have issue when we as Americans pay 30-50% more for healthcare than the rest of the world and hospitals hold us hostage with our lives.

    This conversation is awesome.
One thing to remember is the insurance/Healthcare provider interaction. The "$15000 for a hip replacement" is generally a fake number from the hospital demanded by the insurance companies so they can claim they had to pay $15000 while only paying $1000. Then they can pocket the other $14000 while still not touching into their profit limits. This is where a lot of that "only 11 billion in profit" comes from. They are making WAY more profit than that, but they don't have to claim most of it as profit, because they get to claim they are paying a fake price.
The insurance companies need to go.

    • @holycrapchris
      @holycrapchris 2 года назад +4

"they don't have to claim most of it as profit, because they get to claim they are paying a fake price."
So the insurers are claiming they're paying the full price to the IRS? And the SEC? And no one has caught them (and their auditors) yet in a massive fraud?
Insurers definitely pay a negotiated price to hospitals, but there's no magic money that gets "pocketed". Premiums - expenses = profit.
Bill is wrong about the $11B though.... last year, just Cigna made that much in profit.

BRAVO! We need more of this. No doubt something drastically needs to happen to Our Country and it’s political system. I remember ( I think it was back in 1970 ) I was 18 years old. There was an announcement on the news that the United States Government had just become the Country’s Largest Employer. That’s right, more people were working for the U.S. Government than in the Private Sector!! This was the 1st sign of the shit show it had the chance to become.
One point I’d like to make Bill is this. The Government is always trying to fix Healthcare like they don’t know how to make Healthcare work. They seem to have it worked out just fine for themselves. So, it’s not that they don’t know how to do it, it’s the fact they don’t want us having as good as they do!! With Our Money I might add!!!!

In 2020, more ppl were working for the government than any single company. that doesn't mean there are more people in the public sector vs the private sector.
THAT IS BECAUSE: THE UNITED STATES MILITARY SEES THE STRATEGIC, TACTICAL, AND HONORABLE ADVANTAGE OF HAVING PERSONNEL THAT HAVE A GOOD EDUCATION AND GOOD HEALTHCARE. THE CIVILIANS IN THIS COUNTRY NEED TO LEARN A THING OR TWO FROM THE MILITARY. The civilians won't have a choice with all these wars the military keeps losing. The chickens will come home to roost. The civilians will have to learn how to SURVIVE in this world if they are going to make it.

For those wondering about socialized medicine here are a few of our experiences in Canada:
    1. A few years ago my husband had a dangerous infection near his eye which required IV antibiotics. He was in the hallway for 3 days, finally got a bed on day 4 before he was released. Luckily he was young and healthy enough to stay in his own clothes and use the public bathroom/shower. I will never forget my frail sick grandmother crying on a stretcher in the hospital hallway. Btw both these incidents were many years pre-pandemic
    2. Our neighbour required a hip replacement. Yes it was free but the wait-list was a year. Don't forget in these cases the person's physical condition continues to deteriorate. There is no private option for those who can afford to "skip the queue".
    3. A good friend just waited a year to have an invasive procedure to fix an irregular heartbeat after 2 failed ablations. Again, covered by the health system, but the wait for a potentially fatal condition was ridiculous.
Oh, and our taxes in Canada? Much higher than those in the US.

And why are taxes higher in Canada? Primarily to fund health care. Privatize it and taxes fall, but then what? Salaries crash, bankruptcies soar, medical debts saddle most people (as they do in the States). It's whack-a-mole, madam-but with single-payer the mole isn't the size of a bear.

In our human history, has there ever been a time when those with the most “money”, weren’t also the ones with the most power to control other’s lives and livelihoods? NO! Marianne, I’m happy to see you on the panel, and using it to speak the truth without promoting a personal agenda. What to me, as an European, is one of the strangest aspects of the American discussion about the health care system is how little reference is made to the health care systems of other countries. Here in Europe, we have a wide range of different health care systems, almost all of which work better than the U.S. system. There is something for everyone, from completely government-run to those that are based on private insurance at their core. In the U.S., problems are constantly being discussed for which other countries have long since shown the workable solution.

Between the FUD mathmatics (like what Bill read about %80 taxes), to comparisons of populations and, my favourite, that "that country has a more homogenous population" (which is basically saying if we didn't have all these ____ people here), most people don't have any idea how any other system works. Most people don't know how it worked in the US 25 years ago or that the system was massively changed as recently as Nixon.
The constant cheer of "we're #1" is somehow more important than people getting healthcare in this country :(. Sadly, I think we'd rather keep claiming we are the best than actually (even remotely) *being* the best.
There are subtle shifts. I live in Maryland where the state has normalized hospital pricing and hospitals are rewarded for outcomes. It's a critical step towards single-payer insurance and it does take some time (10-15 years in Maryland). That has led to more efficiency in the system (skipping out on some "filler" procedures) and lower costs for important/effective treatments. It also means when the hospital can't do anything more for you, they get you out *that day*. They get you out to a nursing care facility or send you home, but that's part of the increased efficiency (just seems harsh).
I think most people just know high insurance rates, super-high deductibles, and commercials on TV that say that if Medicare gets to negotiate drug prices, no more new drugs will be developed (aka Wall Street will take it's ball and go home and we'll be like.. *before* big pharma :/ ). There's a lot of crap commercials making people terrified that our horrible situation could actually become worse.

How many of those who listen to his visions and commitment to the People of America, can disagree with me on Vivek Ramaswamy?
God picks and uses an unthinkable person, Vivek, who is not afraid to say his faith in Hindu, for reasons that we cannot comprehend. We should not vote Trump just because what Trump accomplished. God removed Trump and allowed Joe Biden for God's reasons. We wouldn't have learned of Bidens sell-out of America to CCP. Sure we the GOP were very sad with the election outcomes and could not comprehend why God did that.
We must use our discernment to choose a GOP presidential candidate. Vivek Ramaswamy is about a half of Trump's age yet his intellectual level, energy, commitment, surpasses Trump's. I foresee Vivek sits at an international diplomatic stage, looks straight in eyes with no fear, and draws hearts of free world leaders to aid Vivek's efforts in defeating the power of our enemies. Vivek's ways of approach will bring greater causes than Trump ever did. Arise, Vivek.

When things first shut down, every state's unemployment system was overrun. ALL of them had issues, some with capacity (systems were designed with hard maximums of "users"), some with just about everything you can think of.
In order to efficiently and effectively have dealt with this situation the groundwork already needs to be in place. You can slap in some more servers, hire some more teleworkers, etc but you need to be ready for scaling.
In terms of supporting businesses who were forced to close their doors, there really wasn't any infrastructure to see into the situation let alone provide direct assistance. States are underfunded and you have to be willing to invest a bit more to make existing systems flexible enough to respond to emergencies.
I don't want to live in China, but their single very-hard handed system lets them "just do it" when it needs to get done. Our system.. totally inept. Businesses had to go to banks for PPP.
