Man I want those drums, LOL. I surely spent some extra time worshipping at the Bonzo alter at the Rock Hall of Fame (at the time, perhaps 2003). The kit from Zeppelin 4. Which was, of course in total contrast to Neil Peart's very elaborate kit they had there, pretty spartan but that's all he needed. Dig another Zeppelin week.
What a great clip and review. They had a lot of time to fill in that didn't actually have video. So unfortunate. But the sound, and the band killing it. I'd say it is practically impossible for Jimmy to play a solo of any song of any concert the same way twice. And Bonham's intro.
Always great to hear my favorite drummer of all time, although quite distracting to have footage that doesn’t sync up lol!… So looking forward to you running through the entire second album, my favorite! Support coming your way 😊
Happy New Year to one and all! Your critiques/comments are exactly what was said then (and occasionally still to this day) about solos/improvs during a song in concert, in that some considered it overly self-indulgent and bloated and one of the reasons why the emerging punk scene at the time considered them dinosaurs because they wanted music that was to the point, raucous, and in your face. I agree with you in that the improvisation meant you weren't playing safe and when they were on - they soared...and occasionally sank, but that is where the discovery of new phrasings, riffs, etc. are found. It was something they all understood as this quote from Bonham shows: "There were times when I blundered and got the dreaded look from the lads. But that was a good sign. It showed I'd attempted something I'd not tried before." I'm looking forward to another Zep week and it's fitting for January as Jonesy's birthday is January 3rd and Jimmy's is January 9th. Cheers!
Yes!! Can’t believe Jimmy is turning 80! Seeing him play while he inducted Link Wray into Hall of Fame was Fantastic! I’d forgotten about JPJ’s b’day so thanks for the reminder.

Really enjoyed this, grew up with Zep, the silent conversation between Bonzo and JPJ during Page's guitar solo, well you can just imagine. I'm sure Page was quoting the Allman's Mountain Jam in the solo.
That silent conversation was from Dazed and Confused. The producer of this video used other clips from other performances to cover those parts of the original movie that showed something other than the band on stage
Thanks @AndrewRooneyDrums, @FinesseMuse & Susan(hope I spelled your name right)! Love this song! Most of the footage is Dazed and Confused but this was put together well bc Heartbreaker was “lost footage”. That’s why it was mostly about the stolen Tampa concert money from the safe in the movie. Happy New Year!!
Thank you for the great feedback and this week is going to be fun! Live Heartbreaker from the Song Remains the Same film, you are correct, was all chopped up and did not even play a majority of the song. It was supplanted by the lock box theft scenes. Happy New Year, Andrew! Thanks for the vid requester! Fun Fact; "The Song Remains the Same" (still available for purchase) DVD/Movie/Film was edited footage from the three Zep shows at Madison Square Garden, in 1973. Due to limited technology, (1975 when they released movie) some (if not most) of the finished film had multiple edits to create this sort of a mash up of video and audio. The MOST important bit is the best AUDIO was used from one of the three nights whereas the video and some of the audios have been clipped and edited to make one hell of a great movie. So YES, you are right, Andrew.
They also didn’t have enough video to sync up with the video so some of the movie was reshot on a London sound stage-if you notice JPJ wears two different shirts and Jimmy has shorter hair
