    We had a boerboel for 8 years and he was the sweetest boy at home. But as soon as we stepped out of the garden for a walk, he turned on protection mode and nobody could come closer to us than 5 meters. It's a very tough breed, way tougher to handle than other masstiffs.

    So good to hear someone debunk the myth of only bad people - no bad dogs. That would be similar to always blaming the parents for all bad kids - never taking genetics or other outside influences into consideration.

    • @californiadreamer2580
      @californiadreamer2580 2 месяца назад +6

      Yes.Some dogs just have a terrible temperament and don't get along with any other creatures. Sometimes it's neurological *and* due to genetics at the same time. Sometimes they're just antisocial like some humans can be.

      Nothing was debunked here. How is saying "no bad dogs" like blaming the parents? Children are much more capable of comprehension and are able to SPEAK to tell you what is going on. Lack of communication, discipline, and involvement IS the parents fault. HANDLING, and training a dog isn't done the same way a kid is raised. You need to understand how to use all of your tools, learn the body language, and manage specific personalities or issues in order to get through to the animal. They aren't going to tell you what's going on. Saying a dog is "bad" because you're unable to mold it into what you want is weak, lazy, and completely ignorant. Of course genetics and outside influences are a factor. That's why you can't force all of them to be the same. It's YOUR job to manage, train, and handle them...or find someone that can. Ego tripping and blaming a dog because YOU can't figure it out is a good way to get them euthanized. No excuses... don't train if you can't handle it and don't try to own a dog that you can't manage.

    • @blujeans9462
      @blujeans9462 2 месяца назад +1

      @@FAFObozo Since you agreed with my comment "that genetics and outside influences can be a factor" - there really isn't anything to reply to, because that is essentially all I was saying. The rest of your rant... 🙄

      @@blujeans9462agreeing with a valid point you made while explaining the incorrect statement of the first part of your comment is how you debate people. Sorry you can't understand it. Saying dogs are bad is a cop out that gets them euthanized. Roll your eyes... just don't make excuses for being unable to train dogs and instead please tell people you don't understand why you can't figure them out.

      I farm in Tennessee and am a second time boerbel owner. Parents were imported from SA.
      Love this breed! I've had rotties and corsos and they're great too and much easier to train, although they can also be stubborn. Nothing compared to boerbels though lol. Even though they're power breeds and will take over if they can, rotties and corsos intrinsically WANT to please you. Boerbels? Not so much. IMO with boerbels, you have to prove it to them that you're a worthy leader and they need to listen and respect you. They will also test you occasionally lol.
      Y'all developed the breed to be able to think independently and patrol vast homesteads where predatory wildlife and humans are a reality. Consequently, boerbels sometimes think they know best lol
      So, do I have the right understanding of boberbels?
      They seem to really like children, when they've been around some from a younger age. I joke my girl would open the door and help carry our things out for a kid less than 12 😂
      Sadly, some of us Americans are doing our best to ruin this breed. Backyard breeders that aren't having dogs inspected for breed standard. No genetic testing either. Many are also breeding for bigger and heavier size, making these dogs lose the agility and endurance they're known for. 🤬

    I have hypothyroidism and I can totally attest that before you get diagnosed you turn into a different person and you don’t even realize. You’re just so tired and overwhelmed. For me it came on gradually and so I didn’t have a clue. I just knew that I was unable to control things like falling asleep during in-person work meetings and it was effecting my ability to hold a job. I went to the doctor and he ran some tests and it turns out my thyroid doesn’t function properly and I have to take medicine for the rest of my life now. That said, having the medication has been life changing. Within a week I felt better than I had in years. I was tired all the time anymore and I didn’t feel so stressed out and depressed. Nowadays I know what symptoms to look for and if I notice my behavior is changing (like needing to rest more or being grouchy because I’m tired even though I slept well the night before. I bet those are the kind of subtle things that some dogs can sense as being “off” since they recognize body language and tone far better than we give them credit for. Thanks for trying to help him. The world needs more people like you 💜

    I had a standard schnauzer (50 lbs she was the size of a small giant) that started biting when she was 2. They had lost their jobs and home and had to move in with family who had a dog she fought with on top of the fact she had extremely high breed traits. They had also crated her 8 hours a day 5 days a week from the time they got her as a puppy so she wasn’t socialized at all and scared to death of everything.
    I got her at 2 and a half had her till she passed at 11. I was never ever not once afraid of my dog but she couldn’t be around anyone else at my house except my husband as she bit everyone else. Though at the dog park the vet the groomer the boarding place there were no issues.
    I was proud when the vet got on the floor with her after a year and told me he never would have done that when I first brought her in.
    I say all that to say know the dog you get and the breed you get and then adjust your behavior accordingly to maintain a happy healthy dog.

    Dude you guys are amazing. As I’ve commented several times on IG, you guys are walking through all the steps; and one of the big steps is around the relationship with his owner. From experience, I have a male Rottweiler. Forget the cute cuddly vids people forever post on social media. While it’s true that Rottweilers are loving dogs, it’s also true that they are a powerful breed that will take control of the relationship if you don’t do so. So there’s no room for compromise in the hierarchy. You provided a perfect explanation of how that relationship needs to work. And you can’t simply turn it off. Kudos to the owner for being transparent and willing to work through things. Having a power breed is not a trivial undertaking. Great post.

    As an owner of 2 young power breeds, I can say it's a crapload of work! One was so easy compared.
    I think Odin's anxiety has something to do with the other dogs. She works a lot, so there was no time to really socialize and form a close bond.
    Odin appears to be physically cared for. The owner's medical condition had no effect on the other dogs. Nevertheless, he can't go back there. That Cane Corso will always see him as a Tiger, never part of the pack. Whatever triggered him still lives there.
    I think rehomed to experienced, stable owner with no other pets or children would be the best course. Preferably someone with land, no neighbors close by, where he feels the need to work.

    Human aggressive
    Resource guarding with his food, toys and even his humans
    You name it he had the issues. EVERYONE gave zero chance of saving this dog.
    It literally took me a year of 7 days a week and not giving up on him. Strong , huge boxer that literally tried to hurt me energy time we went for walks. I could go on and on. Aggressive inside and outside of the home. Even rammed through our glass do t door to attack the UPS man, twice !
    We made mistakes . Corrected how we dealt with him. It was a hell of a lot of work for me and the whole family. He was the best boy ever, but it wasn’t easy.

    Thank you for saying things the way they are... denying a breed´s genetics saying "it's not the dog" it´s how you raise him is just not understanding what a dog breed was developed for. And yes, owners have to be responsible and part of that responsibility is understanding your dog´s genetics... so herding dogs want to herd, hunting dogs want to hunt and roam, huskies want to run, guard dogs want to protect, pitbull dogs have strong prey / fight drives... terriers want to go after vermin.... It is a reality...

    I do not subscribe to the idea that dogs perform moral or immoral acts.But I think i know what you mean. Many dogs are what's referred to as socially upwardly mobile,basically actively looking to move up the social hierarchy and will use aggression to do so. Many of these dogs are as you put power/working breeds there, not good or bad, necessarily just acting on the instincts they were bred with.Many dogs like this can be fine for years until they are told to do something they don't wanna do. I have worked with working line dogs for 15 years and have come across a few dogs like this that can be absolutely fine one second, doing high-level obedience, and the next second, they are attacking you sometimes completely unprovoked. I think it's anthropomorphic to call these dogs bad as they are not making premeditated calculated decisions to cause you harm, merely acting on their instinct which tells them not to back down! That said dogs like this can be super dangerous regardless of your experience many of these dogs are unfortunately born this way and no amount of training can fix them.

      “ Taking her down a peg “ or “ Taking her out “ is the same as taking over. Be it just taking her place as pack leader, or “ taking out the sick animal “. For about 2 months before we discovered I had lung cancer my 3 year old German Shepherd would push her limits with me every chance she got. No attitude change at all towards my wife, just me. It wasn’t until about 6 months after I finished chemo that I would even think about taking her out off leash.

      I have seen and owned a dominant breed that attacked and killed any sick or weak pack member. Never turned that energy on me, in fact grew more calm when I exhibited weakness. But, from day one of week five of his life, I reinforced my status in every thing that we did. I would back him off of his food, always made him wait for permission from me to eat, join me on the couch, bed, car... I knew that if I were to have that much dog, which I need because I am a single woman living in the country with no neighbors close by which is the reason for the dog to begin with, I would Absolutely have to be able to control him or fall prey to him. Was a wonderful protector. It's like a gun, if it is powerful enough to protect you, it is also powerful enough to kill you.
      The problem with animals is that, to us, they seem to "attack" out of the blue. They send and receive signals that often aren't always apparent to us. We have to stay watchful. Best protection that I ever had. But, it came with responsibility and a certain amount of risk.

      The theory on it is that it's left over from pre dpmestication - The change was a sign there is something wrong with that animal(i.e. rabies) and they instinctively killed it to protect themselves.
      I've mostly seen this behaviour in terrier and bully type dogs - It's pretty commom for them to attack an animal or person havimg seizures, for example.
      Fun(non super related) fact: mini dachshunds rank second, right behind cats, in how quick they'll eat you if you die. Labs ranked lowest, and many would starve to death before eating a deceased owner.

    Why does she need three powerful breeds like that? It doesn't really sound like she's even capable I have a high drive German Shepherd that I raised from a puppy. She's extremely tough dog but I've trained her and she has perfect manners Advanced titles. She's a force to be reckoned with when I asked her to be and while protecting her home. I trained, titled her CDX TDX SCHUTZUND v3 . I know the time and work that goes into raising a good dog and it's much more than just obedience it's like having a deep deep relationship with a human for years. I would trust my dog with my life, she would allow me to do anything to her and has when she's had a medical issue. She would never try to hurt me or be aggressive towards me. But I know what it took to make her that way, and there's no way this woman is doing it while working with three dogs. It's not possible

    You said he showed aggression towards her in front of you. Next time that happens- immediately ask her What was she just thinking? What was she just feeling at that moment?! My dog will growl if I start stressing or become nervous-just by my thoughts. CBT helps with learning to control your thoughts. (Plus meditation).

    Man, I feel really sorry for this woman finding this trainer. He is so off on his exploration that if he doesn’t figure out where he should be looking quickly, he’s going to give life-threatening advice to this person. The fact that he’s putting more attention on the fact that she might have something with her thyroid over the fact that she has three power breeds is scary.. but it’s addressing the actual issue doesn’t fit his program because he only wants to work with this dog. A more qualified trainer that was less concerned with his own ego would be able to help this lady’s situation. if you want help, feel free to reach out.

      Yes you are right...I went to this guy with a female pit bull for training and he used an e-collar on her plus flipped her over and threw her on her back..I had to get out of there or else I would have flipped him over and threw him on his back...Anyway the jerk didn't return the rest of my $ as I paid in full but only used up one training session...Beware of this so called trainer.

      My only problem with this - No lady(and probably very few men) should have multiple power breed dogs.
      You shouldn't have an animal that you can't physically fight off or hold back, let alone 3 of them.
      So he attacked over her thyroid being messed up - Having no natural thyroid means a host of other issues is likely to pop up, leaving her at high risk for being attacked again, when the lack of natural thyroid + side effects from the artificial one inevitably cause more health issues to appear later on.
      This is not a safe dog for her, even if it is temporarily fixed.

      @@Nil-tz6gy I mean, I have nine power breeds in my house as well speak with absolutely no problem. It’s a particular skill set though. a skill set I fear this man does not have and therefore will simply not address throughout his program, Because he’s choosing to go down the “ I am special. I have a special bond with this special dog.” Route. also you can notice he’s not treating this dog like he did woo or the Pitbull ladies dog. Because he knows that would only make this worse. Implying that it wasn’t necessary for those other dogs. Because it wasn’t.

    You contradict yourself! Saying it’s a bad dog and then outlining all the things the human is doing wrong. A dog being a dominant “power” breed that it was bred to be overwhelming a weak owner is not being a “bad” dog.

  • @FAFObozo

    If you think there are "bad" dogs out there... you're not a very good trainer. Speak to Tom Davis and get yourself educated. Otherwise, why spread nonsense and give ignorant people excuses to blame untrained dogs because they're incapable of handling them? Too many euthanized animals out there because of the lack of understanding how to communicate with dogs and adapt to their needs to overcome their personality issues. Drop the ego and don't blame the dogs.

      I’ve watched exactly 2 of these videos and already know you’re making incorrect assumptions about his ideology, methods and desire to save and train every single dog he possibly can. He considers the breed, living situation, medical background and has only had a couple of dogs he couldn’t rehab of all the ones he’s trained.

    • @FAFObozo
      @FAFObozo 2 месяца назад

      @@nycatlady2314 my "assumption" is that he stated there are "bad dogs". It's in THIS video. I don't care what the other ideology is, telling people there are bad dogs does more harm than good and I'm calling him out on it. There are only dogs that aren't a good fit for certain owners and circumstances. Quit blaming the dogs and do your job to figure out how to train them or how to advise the owners on handling and/or explaining that the specific animal isn't going to work with their lifestyle. Not hard to do. Quit shifting blame.
